Hi There, Thanks for the great video! Thanks to you I have just repaired the totally wrecked on both ends DPA4060, going to make a video on that in a short-while. Id like to add one note: the teflon is a non-conductive material and has close to zero interference with RF waves. On the other hand, because it's a non-conductive material, it is used as the isolation layer around the wires that carry that mist precious signal. So it is great to isolate the signal cable from the ground electrically and have zero distortion effect on the signal inside the wire. At the same time the material is relatively heat resistant, thus the isolation of the signal wire with teflon makes it a totally different experience when it comes to soldering. So it's a win from all ends material. But not much to do with the shielding. Of course the teflon tape and epoxy will not hurt, as the more stable the connection is, the more it will last!
Thanks for the video again and cheers!

In the end, I believe the ground wire might need to be unconnected from the shield. I noticed static in the final test, so I’m going to alter and test again. Every brand is a little different.

DPA 4060 is this a microphone that hums at the end? Why is there noise at the end and no noise at the beginning of the movie?

    Hello.
I am inquiring about a possible repair for my sanken cos 11d. Although the capsule and the ta5 connector work perfectly fine, the cable is worn out and presents several cracks along its surface, in some cases some are deep enough to see cuts through the copper part. Basically, I would like to know if you could fully replace the cable of my unit from capsule to connector.
Please let me know if you do this type of repair, how much this would cost, and what the process of sending you the unit would be.
Looking forward to hearing from you

The connector end is doable but the connection to the mic capsule will be a nightmare. Best send that to electronics shop or to Sanken. Might be best to just get a new one when it's all said and done.

Great Video. Thank you for explaining that you need to SPLIT the mono cable in two and solder them to the Left/Right contacts. I did notice that when you were soldering, that you connected that ONE wire to both the left and right contacts, soldering it all in one place (connecting the two together so-to-speak). I was curious, what made you decide on the Oyaide P-3.5 G 3.5mm Mini Stereo Plug. I'm asking because I have the a Amphenol 3.5mm Gold Plated Tip Connector (Model KS3PC-AU). The thing that I like about how the Amphenol Left/Right contacts, is that they are separate. This shouldn't be a problem if I divide the mono wire into equal halves and connect them separately on the Left and Right contacts, correct? Let me know what you can. Lastly, I heard some hissing in the background when using the 4060 after you finished the soldering and connected it to your recorder. Any reason why? Thanks again for the video.

Yes, there was some hissing and i had to re-solder a new 3.5mm. That particular mic requires a microscope to see the tiny wires that were mixed with fiberglass. No particular reason for using the 3.5mm that i did. Btw, you can always send them to the factory if you mess up, and the will charge much less than it would cost to replace the lav.

@@buildflow Was the hissing noise caused by the plug being plugged in and not a malfunction of the microphone itself? is there no hissing in dpa4060 now?

@@rafirafal As someone who has also resoldered the dpa 4060's, I have no hissing. My guess would be either that he doesnt realise phantom power is required, or didnt read an xlr pinout and got the connections wrong.

Sounds like preamp noise floor as a result of not enough power.
