Equating expelling air with support is a dangerous little thing. It stems from the thought that the vocal cords are passive in sound production and only activated through the air flow through them. But that's not true. A branch of the vagus nerve activates the vocal cords and makes them vibrate. So that focus on expelling the air in "just the right way" is counter productive and often leads to folks being stuck with small voices, or even hurting themselves. I get what you're doing though, getting folks to use less air to produce sound. But the knowledge that the vocal cords are not passive in sound production might help them get there even faster. 😀
Totally agree - I hope it didn't come across that advocate for seeing the vocal cords as passive pieces of flesh through which to expel air, my focus is always on training the cords which in turn trains the 'support'......
