Yeah same here. I think they need better algos on some of their modules. The Exciter never does anything delightful to it, and the multiband compressor doesn't add the wow factor. I'm back at v9. Maybe when v12 comes out I'll take another look.
Nice review, thanks! Ozone is a good workhorse plugin for me, but I always dial it back and turn off stuff in it to work together with other plugins. But I'm leaning to upgrade as the stems part could save time going back to the mix for small tweaks.

When you raise the vocals at time stamp 9:26 in the chorus, are you somehow separating the raising function of Izotope from the verse compared to the chorus? Just curious if you would automate a function like that to change during the song, or if you would just raise the vocals up a certain DB and leave it for the entire track.

I'd buy it if their upgrade paths on both single products and suites wheren't so crazy expensive for what little new there actually is. I really don't like the way they've integrated (or rather NOT integrated) with NI after the purchase either. There is literally zero value in owning products from both companies when it comes to upgrades. This should be a €50 upgrade at most, instead it's €164 (or €219 once the intro "sale" is over). MPS6 upgrade is €253 (€329 after "sale"). I feel like I'm just being hit in the head with a hammer every time I try to talk to them about their "loyalty offers" to. If they ever manage to merge their stuff with NI/PA like they should, so I can get offers based on the products I actually own from all these companies, I'll consider buying again. Won't hold my breath though, as my experience with NI is just as bad. I tried asking if I couldn't get a discount on Komplete upgrade since I already own every iZotope product in there, but no...
I have the same exact feelings about both iZotope and NI. I once bought some orchestral library from Spitfire Audio and after a while decided to buy some more stuff from them. They not only lowered the price of what I wanted to buy because I owned some parts of the bundle already, but applied a seasonal sale discount that was up at the time. I ended up paying way less for what I wanted and bought an extra thing on top for the "rest" of the money I had left. With iZotope and NI it's always no. And even the loyalty offers looks like you have to pay extra on top for what you own already.

Please tell me, I don’t understand why there is a limiter slider with adjustments like on the compressor in the Dynamics (compressor) section? The compressor itself is clear what it does, but the limiter, if there is a maximizer and a vintage limiter in the line, what does it do and how obligatory is its use?
When working with 2-Track Instrumentals would it be detrimental to the overall tonal balance to use Ozone 11 EQ's Transient & Sustain modes to enhance/manipulate frequency ranges within the mix (i.e. On the Instrumental track, Pre-Mastering)? Asking anyone who can help!
I just bought this, still trying to figure out how to use is, so this was very helpful. Thanks! Love your song too! I have a question, how do you decide which order to put the modules?
I had Ozone 10 and did upgrade to 11 Advanced. You showed the ReBalance module, and adjusted the vocals. However, you did not comment if you could adjust each of the other sections, i.e. the drums and bass, also within that module. I'm asking because I was NOT able to do that in Version 10, and could only do one of the three. I DO also agree with the person who complained about the Upgrade prices. Right now, there's another Upgrade within RX 11, and it's $99, and to me, NOT worth it for the upgrade. Plus it seems that the RX11 upgrade deals more with Dialogue and I don't even do any of that, I do all music.
nice, but spectralayers 10 pro seems more versatile (and a 30$ less) as it can do the stem separation and then go ahead changing them the way you need with your own existing plugins plus the spectral editing
Yep, SpectraLyers updated recently with a new AI model for demixing. It's not the best out there, but it's a big improvement on what Izotope offered in RX which I assume Ozone is based off. There's better than SpectraLayers out there too, but not so easy to use as mor experimental/nerdy to use.
Do you need have this plug in active on each track for the different modules? Ie one for the whole mix? One for the vocal one for the drums etc..or can h do all of this on the one instance of the plug in? Hope that makes sense
You mix them properly in your mix session. These mastering tools are not made to remix a song, but to enhance better what should be already in place. So perfect if I need to bring up a lead vocal by 0.5 to 1 db when mastering. If I have to bring it up by 3-4 dbs, I go back in the mix session and work it out there
Wow. It's really getting pretty obvious now that the profession of being a mastering engineer is one of the first music industry jobs that AI will eliminate, for most intents and purposes. Might still be some real high-end work left, but that'll be it.
Rubbish. Ozone etc only help the indie / homebased artists, which is ok. Anyone who knows their stuff will want a human to take their stems and do some magic, especially get it to match the target music genre, not just some averaged "pop" market sound.
@@nicok5630 I think you're going to be surprised. Sure, for the highest end stuff that actually has a snowball's chance in hell of making any money at all in an era when 100,000+ songs are being uploaded to Spotify every day might warrant some extra, professional love. 99% of artists can get great results with Ozone. And interestingly, MATCHING content to the sonics of a specific genre is EXACTLY what AI based mastering like Ozone is good at. I think there are some mastering engineers out there who are overestimating their "magic." ;) Another important thing to remember is that "mastering" is no longer written in stone as it was in the days of vinyl, CDs and cassettes. If a track you've got on streaming is showing promise, you can always remaster it differently and upload a fresh file.
Hi Chris... Great, informative Video as per usual... I am using Ozone 10 (I need all the help I can get... music is a hobby for me, so time is limited... I use the Assistant as a starting point all the time lol)... But your comment about the "upwards compressor" module in Ozone 11got me thinking... In Cubase... it's basically what Squasher does??? (or can do???)... Other than the AI/Assistant element. (invaluable most of the time), could we build a chain in Cubase that mimics what Ozone can offer? (other DAWS are available at your friendly store)... not really suggesting that we should or could replace such a well written tool as this... But for someone just having Cubase and nothing else, might be a time saver... sorry, meandered on a bit there!!!
If you have Cubase Pro you get a simple version of Spectral Layers that can divide a song into vocals and music. That's another reason not to upgrade, right?
Novice producer here. Why would you increase the EQ of the vocal stem in the mastering phase rather than just applying an EQ to the channel before mastering?
Clarity does clarity in a clinical way so this is a bad thing right from the start. It also destroyes tightness of the mix and the "far away", "mystic" element of the mix. I could go on and on. It's a good feature for beginners to see what boring high end sounds like. :) Stem Focus is a nice feature, saves a lot of time if you made a mistake in the mix and the rest is O.K. too. So I would give it a score 8.9 from 0 - 10. Ozone is great tool for "the next stop" before going into the real mastering app's ... It's a no go for to use as a "main" mastering "engine". It's too soft, lack character, too loose etc. Use it as a fine tunning element before going into "something stronger". I use ... When I retire I'll write a book, haha.
Ear of the beholder I think. Somewhere on YT they sent a song out to an online mastering place, then to a real mastering engineer, then to Ozone, and everyone liked Ozone LOL
@@TheAerovons Well, it takes also a human to do things ... So if you don't know what you're doing, no high end gear or even Ozone 1000 can't help you and vice versa; you can have a pro on Ozone 6 doing things a beginner in a million dollars studio can't do. For me Ozone is the best for remastering old hits etc. as a "all in one" tool because you have already top notch mixes and all the high end transformers, amp's etc. in the chain ... But(for me) to use it as a final mastering tool, no way. As I said, the best tool, but only to a point; for me ... :))
Funny enough, I personally know pro award winning mastering engineers who work with Ozone as part of their workflow. All these new features can destroy a master like they can make a master sound amazing, it all depends how you work with them. So for me there's no real mastering apps, but real mastering engineers :-)
I knew there was a now Ozone on the horizon when I updated my Music Production Suite from 3 to 5.2. But I probably wait for a deal on the update to 7.2 before I buy into the next Ozone. 😉
I totally disagree with Mr Selim. I have Ozone 10 Advanced and all Ozone 11 offers is a few additional bells and whistles I'd never use. If you're an existing Ozone 10 user forget 11 and wait for a future version with significant improvements. If you currently have 9 then yes... go direct to 11 and that will be a great upgrade.
Yeah, and if I use EQ in Mastering, why not just recall the Mix? Man, I need a bit of compression, let's recall the mix...might as well do everything in the mix, and not Master at all, lol. Not sure if you get my point here, but Mastering is a different mind set than mixing. Yes my goal is to make the mix sound the best in relation to all the tracks together, and mastering is to polish, and finalize the 2 track master before you release the music. In mastering, we're talking about small moves, so I will recall the mix only if I need to make big moves to improve the master, or else, I just do my mastering job I'm paid for. If I start going back in forth from the master to mix sessions for small moves, the mastering will be a never ending story :)
The idea of adding an EQ bump to a stereo to track and having it not affect other elements than what you’re listening to is totally ridiculous It does affect other elements you’re just focusing on the one that you’re trying to fix Recall the mix and fix it in the mix
I only buy plug-ins once a year on Black Friday. I’ll buy this. I’ve been on ozone 8 since 2018 but I barely use it. I use it as a reference to judge my personal master. After I did my own master I’ll bypass those plug-ins on my master buss and add ozone and cross references
I think it's a tad misleading that you don't clearly highlight the fact Clarity, Stem Focus and Tonal Balance are only available in the Pro version. Bit of a smoke screen if you ask me...
'Clarity' very nice but breathes too much treble and that is a problem. If you master like that and at home I have treble in the EQ, it sounds like crap. You have to master with a 'flatter' sound.
Ah man! Not more money I need to spend, ahaha! 🤣 🤣 🤣 By the time I save up, 12 will be out. Thanks so much for video from unseasonably warm Ireland! ☘💪🏽👀👍🏽☘
The updates on Oz11 seem more useful than Oz10 which I just got 11 months ago. WTF! It'd be nice if Izotope could upgrade Oz10 before hitting us with another update at $149 1 year later but....money!
Here's what I think...Sounds like a title for a cheesy podcast. I've ben working with 10 for a few months and just upgrade from to 11 because I for what I'm currently doing...resurrecting 40 year old mixes...I thought the clarity and stem focus plugs would help tremendously. Meanwhile...I have indulged many vids on Ozone to assist in my acclimation to Ozone which is by far, mile above anything I've ever encountered as a singer/songwriter/musician...and very novice engineer...did I mention the novice part? So that said...as I meander thru these miscellaneous toots and review vids I continue to find many of them jumping to serious assumptions of the viewer. All things considered and basic headphones aside...as the before and after demos for each particular module setting or change is revealed...in many videos including this one...I really cannot hear the difference in some examples. Now I have a really good ear, but what I find frustrating is when "You Guys" with your genius ears quickly run thru the motions on these different module before/after samples then make comments on the changes "You" hear...It just seems an arrogant assumption that because "You" hear it..."We" hear it also. When you do this for a living, you eventually get pretty good at it...yet you're forgetting something here...the other pros aren't watching these vids. I believe we're called "Laypersons". So...if I were to offer a supportive suggestion for the different module samples...maybe...maybe spend a few more seconds of analysis toward the change and description as to what "You" are hearing. Maybe just a bit more elaboration for us simpletons who make up the majority of your audience. So...that's what I think...thoughts...?

nice, but spectralayers 10 pro seems more versatile (and a 30$ less) as it can do the stem separation and then go ahead changing them the way you need with your own existing plugins plus the spectral editing
Where would you add Neutron 4 - before Ozone or after?
Do you think clarity module can be used to remove harshness like soothe 2?
Thank you. Chris Selim 👍
Did they add oversampling to the limiter by any chance?
They've had it for quite a while It's just not explicitly said, when you enable true peak limiting it requires oversampling to do that.
Do you need have this plug in active on each track for the different modules? Ie one for the whole mix? One for the vocal one for the drums etc..or can h do all of this on the one instance of the plug in? Hope that makes sense
hi ow do you mix you background vocal?
You mix them properly in your mix session. These mastering tools are not made to remix a song, but to enhance better what should be already in place. So perfect if I need to bring up a lead vocal by 0.5 to 1 db when mastering. If I have to bring it up by 3-4 dbs, I go back in the mix session and work it out there
Is the focus only available when you buy the full plug-in. I have the trial version and it's not in there. Thanks for any return answer.
cool stuff. be cool to get ozone 11.+ to work with serato stems to sound better for separation.
Does it run lpf and hpf off Ai analization process?
Is this all Elements Suite 8?
Wow. It's really getting pretty obvious now that the profession of being a mastering engineer is one of the first music industry jobs that AI will eliminate, for most intents and purposes. Might still be some real high-end work left, but that'll be it.
Yep
Just picked this up (ya sold me!). UNBELIEVABLE! Thanks again Chris.
What is the song called its very catchy arrangment
Cool software but maybe I'm missing something? I can barely hear the difference between bypass and enabled using this software,
Thanks Chris!!!
Of course!
same could be done with eq on snare track imo
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
For the sake of demonstration of this particular plugin of course, why else.
"AI" give sooooo powerful automation and another level of processing power. Holy Moly awesome Ozone 11
is this ozone standard? or advanced?
Nice track Chris
thanks
🤡
@@siriusfun Have a nice start in mixing ...
Wow amazing! 😮
Glad you like it!
Freaking WOW!!
Hi Chris iam still hoek into wave lab pro
Really wish they would add scaling for 4K.
Very nice, I just purchased 10 about 2 months ago 😂
Same 😞
Well, that is Izotope strategic. Wait until Black Friday
Omg, it never ends
Lol, I know!
Christmas has come early
If you using clarity, why don’t you just recall the mix and add clarity to the elements that need more clarity?
The idea of adding an EQ bump to a stereo to track and having it not affect other elements than what you’re listening to is totally ridiculous
It does affect other elements you’re just focusing on the one that you’re trying to fix
Recall the mix and fix it in the mix
Interesting! Let’s stay in touch.
I only buy plug-ins once a year on Black Friday. I’ll buy this. I’ve been on ozone 8 since 2018 but I barely use it. I use it as a reference to judge my personal master. After I did my own master I’ll bypass those plug-ins on my master buss and add ozone and cross references
Very interesting. Subbing… close to 100k. Congratulations. (Could I be the 100,000th!)
Thanks a lot!
Thanks Great
Of course!
I think it's a tad misleading that you don't clearly highlight the fact Clarity, Stem Focus and Tonal Balance are only available in the Pro version. Bit of a smoke screen if you ask me...
That's a great video
But still not convincing me To buy it
Everything I saw in the video I can also do it in ozone 9 advance In a different way
In the modern Day world, you can always recall the mix and tweak it
'Clarity' very nice but breathes too much treble and that is a problem. If you master like that and at home I have treble in the EQ, it sounds like crap. You have to master with a 'flatter' sound.
Great functionalities, Ozone 10 was already awesome and could do a lot, so not so sure if it's worth to upgrade, not that it's not an amazing plugin.
That's always a personal choice according to your needs.
Ah man! Not more money I need to spend, ahaha! 🤣 🤣 🤣 By the time I save up, 12 will be out. Thanks so much for video from unseasonably warm Ireland! ☘💪🏽👀👍🏽☘
Lovely track - where can I find the final version of the tune?
yerrrr
What a birthday present =D
Enjoy!
Amazing plugin, if you couldn’t fix it in the mix you can fix it in the master 😂
There's always a way Lol!
THAT AI THING IS GOING MAD, THE IZOTOPE 'S R&D DEPARTMENT ON STEROID.
The updates on Oz11 seem more useful than Oz10 which I just got 11 months ago. WTF! It'd be nice if Izotope could upgrade Oz10 before hitting us with another update at $149 1 year later but....money!
They are owned by larger corporations now, which see home music production as a cash cow.
