See Izotope is SMART AF. They incorporate the best feature from other manufacturers and place them into one box, with the option of still using the other plug ins. EG (SPLIT EQ's sustain/transient split!!) Even if it's not as detailed it's still way past what normal EQ's can do. Upward compression, on the limiter like MV2, (the most unsung hero of all) Clarity, like Waves or Gullfoss (I Love my Foss!). Yeah, If i didn't already have 1000 dope plugins I prob start over and just by this. But I do, I can still use this. What a time to be alive. Great review as always Matty.
I'll be honest, when I upgraded from Ozone 9 to 10 I regretted it. I still like my results with Ozone 9 better than with Ozone 10. Even using the same settings, for some reason to my ears Ozone 9 sounds better.
I was able to upgrade from Ozone 10 Standard to 11 Standard for 50$, so for me it was extremely worth it ! Thank you for this video, it was very easy to understand, even for a beginner :)
I am at a point where I already have a TON of plugins, too many in fact. BUT Izotope is now one of my main plugin vendors, including Plugin Alliance, as I've been weaning myself away from Waves for the last 2 yrs, when I retired and now only doing MUSIC! I've sometimes heard this statement,,,,,,wait till the "next version is out", not the one directly after the one you already have. I DO have Ozone 10 Advanced, and I use it in Studio One's Project Page, which is their Mastering Module, AND it is in the first position of each song I'm mastering. Great starting point. I do like the new features you mentioned. One you didn't, which I saw on an Izotope video, is the "vocal Balance" checkmark" which I think would be useful. I do have a Waves Clarity plugin which is great. Thanks for your video. I might go against that theory and buy this upgrade, as I think the upgrade features are worth $80, now on sale.
Interesting. I've got Ozone 10 Advanced, and I'll have to admit that I often go back to Ozone 9 for mastering features. For me, Ozone 10 just wants to do too much off the bat. I was hoping Ozone 11 could be used more subtly.
Run MA in Ozone 9 turn off limiter . Then bypass . Run MA in Ozone 11. Only using clarity stabilizer & limiter in 11. Now stack the 2 versions. I agree about the eq choices being too extreme. Ever since ver. 10
Being able to process the transient and sustain separately on almost every module is big. They seem like simple updates GUI-wise, but along with the stem processing that opens up a ton of possibilities
Haha, seriously. I love their products, but that discount is a complete joke. 😰 I understand they need to make money, but it feels like a bit of a slap in the face for only a 25% discount. There's plenty of other "clarity" plugins for much less than the $200 CAD pricetag that will achieve the exact same result. 🤷♂️
I have never used ozone assistant to master my tracks i do it from scratch and looking at this new features added am so so upgrading to ozone 11 it worth it , i just imagine what i can achieve with this new features ...DEM SO GOOD
Having tested both these out, for some reason 11 is getting me a better mix and I think it has something to do with "Clarity" and "Upwards compression" but just as you said, that "Impact" sucks and as for "Imager" the A.I for it is way blown out for Stereo, you MUST go into manual mode and fix it to to fit more Mono. Lastly I've been struggling to decide if Standard Clip or "Soft Clip" is better and personally I will start using Soft Clip but only on L (low) mode.
I appreciate this video! For me personally, I do not dig the over-visualization and modern looking buttons, but that's a non-issue if it doesn't affect much and it sounds good. After watching this whole video though, in my opinion, the improvements are definitely best in the stem selector and the Clarity module if it is used only when needed.
I dont think its worth the update price from Ozone 10 Advanced. Its basically the same with some new features to save bad mixes. As the upgrade price is the same for Ozone 9 and 10 owners it might make more sense to upgrade next year from 10 to 12.
@@richertz , i just received an email with an offer to upgrade for 99$. When i put it in the card it says "upgrade from august campaign". So it looks like there is an offer for people who purchased ozone 10 just last month.
@@richertzI got a discount where I only had to pay $49 for ozone 11 advanced, nectar 4 advanced and guitar rig pro 7, as I bought the everything bundle in august. Ideally would’ve been free as they’ve done this in the past but I’d say $49 isn’t bad. I believe you qualify for it if you bought it in august

Thanks for your review of Ozone 11 Matty and as a long time user of Ozone 9 thought I would check out the demo version of 11 and compare the results on a few previous projects. I have to admit that so far I have been somewhat underwhelmed by Ozone 11. Not only did the Master Assistant consistently get the music genre wrong but unlike the more subtle use of modules in Ozone 9 it seemed to throw the whole street of modules on each project and whilst they sounded OK were they any better than what I had achieved using Ozone 9? One other thing I noticed is that whilst the volume levels were the same in each case, the Ozone 11 version kept peaking on my levels monitor as opposed to the Ozone 9 version. I'm sure a lot of people will love this new version but I will stick with what I know in Ozone 9
You’ll probably need to wait for some updates to come out because I was having a similar problem with ozone 10 when I first got it hit once they fixed some things it got way better
Thank you for this review. I am new to mastering my songs. I have a newbie question. I have upgraded from Ozone 9 Elements to 11 Advanced. Since I started to use Ozone I add it on the main mix bus of my tracks or Is it better to use it on a exported stereo track like in your review? Thanks.
I really like the A/B comparison on the master assistant, is it just me or does the clarify add some strange saturation especially on the snares? I personally feel the before sounded better
Off the bus again. Ozone 5 didn’t get beat really until 9 then bought 10… mmm. 11 sounds great on the Izotope polished promo mixes but, in reality just added a bit of top end sizzle tbh and as most of our mixes go through further algorithms on uploading to you tube, etc, then feel this is probably added anyway
Hi Matty, I was always wondering, how did you get started in music/end up engineering? I mean, what's your instrument, are you a vocalist, etc. Would love to know more about your journey.
Sounds like a good video idea haha. But basically I grew up playing drums, went to Berklee for drumming but ended up getting into the Music Production and Engineering program. Then started interning at studios and moving my way up the ladder.
Hmmm. There’s some good new features, but it seems more like a 10.5 type upgrade than a full upgrade, to be honest. Given the leaps and bounds in AI tech (& movement towards immersive audio like Dolby Atmos) over this past year, I kinda expected a huge change in Ozone 11.
Great demo, clear and concise. I’m still undecided of upgrading this time. I don’t only use Ozone when mastering, and often turn off and dial back a bunch it does, but there are a couple useful additions.
Yah. Unfortunately, I have only gotten one session sent as a reaper session in the last 10 years. I think it's a great DAW, but everyone in LA still using slow tools. So I am as well. Although with Soundflow I think Pro Tools is prob one of the best out there for strictly mixing and mastering
@@mixedbymatty Agreed. I want to LOVE Reaper, the Idea and DAW are dope AF. Just adoption and learning curve. I still love editing audio in PT though 😍
Izotope hit the brick wall in V9. This isn't Mastering, it's mainly an attempt to trick you into thinking that Mastering is now Mixing and their one button gimmickry and renamed rehash of existing processes. This is what you get when your products have run out of runway, but you have to keep gouging low confidence people into thinking they need this stuff and know they won't look too deeply into the "new functions" and what a load of garbage they are. If you listen to the "stems" it produces, they are worthless, especially when you present Ozone with a complex piece of music. Also, it's not AI, it's just if/then/else pre-sets, based on a database. No real "AI" is at work here, artfully pondering over your mix and suggesting new or interesting or thoughtful changes based on anything to do with meaning or emotion or life or experience of the outer world as a whole, it's marketing BS. Deception.
Damn, your mix sounds 10 times better without Ozone's master assist on it, but it also sounds almost perfect as is. It probably doesn't make sense to AI master a professional mix like that anyway. I'm wondering how it stack with my broke as mixes and if it's actually an improvement on mediocre mixes in general.
Ozone needs a "God" mode that mimics the ease of use of God Particle, especially since God Particle was based on Ozone. New features are nice. Wonder how they compare to Gullfoss and the like.
The master assist is the worst function on Ozone... it reminds me of restaurants just adding more salt to make you think the food is better. It's just too much.
I watched the whole thing and none of the changes made the track any better. It already makes a mix with loads of artefacts sound even worse. The bass is taken away every time. It sounds very digital, maybe it's the TH-cam algorithm. Still, the transient / sustain thing might be useful
I mean, if people are being told to use their ears and turn off the assitant, doesn't that beat the purpose of this plug in? People can do that already with other brand equalizers, compressors, etc.
What’s new is that support no longer exists. An AI bot that understands nothing, a “create ticket bot that never completes, this is what you are buying into, beware! Expensive without support!!!

Standalone 9: I don't need more bells and whistles for mastering, and if Izotope 'don't do' standalone anymore they won't get my upgrade money.
Assistant is terrible now since ozone 10, most of the time bcs of the stabilizer module.
I like ozond 9 more for the assistant more natural sounds

Great review, thank you. The stem focus is a powerful new feature.
My question is, do the stems have artifacts? No artifact shall be the explicit goal of such a program as the separation tool.
I use Ozone 10 Standard. TBH I only use the "LUFS learn" tool and the Match EQ. I don't use the Assistant, because I could never get it to sound good.
Its chosen rock instead of the pop preset. That's why its so loud and upfront, You should've changed it 2 pop so it can match the song better.
