Sarachini's scan's of any painting has made the value of those painting go up in value. Learning from him how to scan art would be great even learning from one of his underlings would enrich any art restorers ability.
I note that I read that the temple may be a Medieval reference as symbol to the Virgin birth. The ruins are a possible reference to the Basilica of Maxentius, which, according to Medieval legend, the Romans claimed would stand until a virgin gave birth. It is supposed to have collapsed on the night of Christ's birth (in fact it was not even built until a later date).
Was Leonardo depicting the resurgence of pagan religion -- or the resurgence of pagan science and knowledge, as represented by engineering and architecture. After all, the Renaissance painters and intellectuals took the pagan world as their inspiration -- it makes sense that Leonardo would pay homage to the learning of that era...
Kind of like Jessica and the Bene Geserit planning on making Paul into a messiah so that they can destroy 'the' Messiah and all those around him that believe.
