      a good deadlift base and then turning that into cleans for power (I only do clean pulls though. no catch). totally transformed my vert by getting my core involved.

      I stopped doing deadlift for a bit due to knee and ankle injuries from playing competitive ball. Then I started having back pain now LOL Guess the pain made me wince whenever I try perform movement and cause my form to detoriate, whether it be lifting, jumping or running etc..#truesstory Gotta get back into it, work on the weakest link and start power cleans.

      You probably have back pain from the weak core or your abdomen is just heavy compared to your back that's why it's pulling forward. Same pain pregnant women experience when they are at 6-9months.

    That is a tremendous front squat. I have little doubt that very few D1 football players below 205 pounds can handle a 365 front squat with that kind of depth and form.

      This is the most important thing for jumping. It’s not about the numbers, but the numbers relative to your bodyweight.

      @@sirkiz1181 like the stronger you are and the lighter you are the higher you jump right? Cause I used to jump pretty high and ive kept about the same lower body strength if not a little more but I’m probably 30-40 pounds heavier. My workouts now are probably not as explosive as they were either which could play a part in different types of leg strength maybe?

      @@iamjstew___4473 Yes at the end of the day it’s a physics problem. If a 200 kg man can squat 500 kg, that’s 2.5 times more than he weighs. But if a 150 kg man squats 450 kg that’s less, but more when compared to his body weight, 3x bodyweight. So he would most likely jump quite a bit higher.

      Too much non explosive weight lifting can transition your explosive twitch muscle fibers to regular fast twitch.

      @@sirkiz1181 There’s more to it too. I feel like I’m pretty weak relative to my vertical jump. I’m 160lbs and only squat about 220lb and front squat 195. Deadlifts about 385, which is comparatively a lot better. But I feel like my squats very low for a 31 inch vertical.

    Glad to see people using weights for their sports
    I train mostly baseball players and boxers using weights heavy enough to promote explosiveness since that's what every sport is about
    But as of lately I trained several basketball players over 6'5"' and have them deadlift from blocks and do explosive Olympic lifts
    I helped a kid start dunking that had trouble touching the rim before with a 12 week program that included jumping trap bar deadlifts

    Looks good, just a short recommendation: try to "attack the ground" when you're doing your snatches. Instead of doing that wide stance catch that you're currently doing, think of attacking the ground in an athletic stance when you catch the bar at the top.

    Hi Isaiah, I appreciate the training videos. Would you also mind doing a nutrition video. I'd be really interested in seeing what it takes to dunk from a calorie and macronutrient perspective.

      You must be kidding. Nutrition has little to do with jumping high. Although it does have a lot to do with building muscle, even big bulky muscle will slow you down and hold that max vert down. Simple short answer is be thin and do a lot of explosive movements such as olympic lifts and plyometric training.
      Just look around, what do all the pro dunkers and NBA players body shapes look like? Not too many, if any, butter boys or Arnold's out there. Karl Malone was the most muscular NBA player ever and he had no hops.

      Some 100 meter sprinters have a bulky ish build. Tyreke hill is explosive as hell. But yeah, too much strength work and hypertrophy will slow down ultra explosive people.

      Hex bars are really good for hex bars jump. Velocity hex bar deadlifts are also very beneficial for your vertical. Do like 6 sets of 2 reps of hex bar deadlifts and add weight each set

    Unrelated question, what was your max leap before you started training? I imagine since you are at 50" now you must have naturally had a 30+" vertical?
    I used to be a college basketball player and had a 26" vert naturally before I started training. At my peak I got to a 39" max leap tested jump, but was never able to get into the 40+" range.

    I was doing heavy deadlifts and cleans when I was 38. Went to Germany for a seminar and played some b ball with some friends. I'm 5' 8" and I was almost dunking it. Was bouncing the ball of the rim. Thoise heavy lifts are magic. Too old for that stuff know , but it will work when you can still jump

    This is sick, man. Philosophical question, may be a more complex answer. I see that you guys go more for heavy lifts. There’s always this debate between maxing rate of force development vs max strength. Do you think it’s on an athlete to athlete basis, as in speed vs power jumpers? Or with the THP experience do you guys really see more benefits on the pure strength side?

      From what I’ve seen specifically in 2 foot jumpers, getting stronger almost always helps. The exception are guys that are at an elite level of strength that have lifted for 10-15+ years and don’t have a lot of jumping experience

      I was wondering the same thing but, just my thoughts, if you were to only do heavy lifts and not consistently have jumping workouts as well you wouldn’t see much of an increase in your vertical. Isaiah does a lot of jumping as we see lol so the combination of training heavy and jumping consistently shows the biggest results.

      Thanks fam 🙏🏾. Since THP also does power cleans as well as some depth jumps, sprints, and of course 🔥 dunk sessions, seems like that combo works both, more emphasis on max strength but also working that nervous system/rate of force development.

      @@shakenbacon-vm4eu people forget that jumping/dunking in its self is a power exercise. If your jumping/dunking, sprinting , lifting heavy, and Olympic lifting you WILL jump higher, even for one foot jumpers. I don’t agree with people when they say lifting heavy makes you slow or jump lower. If your doing all the other things I mentioned in combination with lifting heavy you will jump higher. Look at NFL players even heavy lineman dunk with ease. After all jumping is a power exercise and force(strength) x velocity(speed) =power (jumping higher) people who dunk without ever touching weights do so because when you apply force over repeated bouts of efforts and sessions for long periods of time you can jump higher as well, but it’s not the most effective way to increase vert. (Vertical jump training with weights is the fastest route)

    How do you train grip strength for deadlift? I can’t seem to hold on to the bar past 265 lb with normal grip. I can definitely light more with over-under grip.

    what are the top 3 plyo workouts that you suggest? I’ve always had pretty good leg strength (dl - 455lb and back squat - 385lb) but i rarely do plyo besides hooping

    You got hops but I should tell you. I even heard Terrell Owens say the same. If you want explosive athletic ability those seated leg lifts works wonders. I'm 6'5 and I had to bend at the waist to keep my head from hitting the rim when dunking. 40 yo now, that was 20 years ago. Lol

      I use a hook grip, which can be just as good as mixed grip if you’re willing to put in the time to learn it

    I can deadlift around 400 pounds and run very fast like 20 mph+ but i only have like a 30 inch running start jump any tips?

      This is because you haven’t trained yourself to recruit the muscles for a high jump this means you need to work a plyometrics that work the stretch shortening cycle of your muscle like depth jumps, keen to jumps, also do power cleans, and box jumps, and max approach jumps especially

    my joints are pretty tight to jump and my knee was feeling funny
