- Winter 2021 we had a crazy winter storm in Texas--we're calling it the "Snowpocalypse". Record breaking freezing conditions resulted in people being without power, heat, gas, and water for about a week! I'm very grateful that we weren't too badly affected, but we weren't built for this!

What I learned: good parents are priceless. Seeing your mom and dad look after you. Trying to get someone to pick you up, meeting you halfway on your walk. And seeing you look after Ziya. The makeshift bath made me tear up for some reason. Then after all of that, you still finished her Valentine gifts. Just beautiful.

Raven is so lucky she has a dad who is actually a GOOD father and not a deadbeat, physically abusive, non existent, one I unfortunately got blessed with. I sincerely hope Raven sees the many, abundant blessings that have been bestowed upon her life.

Prayer for the lady who died in Tennessee we had almost a foot of snow ! She was a homeless elderly lady ! She got stuck in her wheelchair In the snow storm and unfortunately she literally froze to death ! She was a on less traveled road so due to the inclement weather and state of emergency ordered in our town no one was really out and about to see her! My heart breaks! No one should have to endure such pain! Please be grateful and pray for those who may not have the essentials of life! If you can help a less fortunate person do it! Use your able body as a service to others!

I'm dumbfounded that the US is having this problem. I live in Canada and nothing like this happens when we have a storm. The government needs to get it together!
This isn't the whole US. It's basically just Texas because their houses were only made for hot weather apparently. Why? No clue. I don't live there. But probably everywhere else in us is okay with snow. So we were just as shocked as you guys when Texas needed help

It’s a power grid run by state government, not the feds. But similar to how there are rolling blackouts inNYC when everyone is running air. Southern states aren’t as equipped to deal with cold

I was only mentioning this, because we went through this Texas storm too and had our pipes bust and we were told to keep the water running to prevent this from happening again. We couldn't even do that we were blacked out for 3 days. We put gas in both cars and warm up in the car. We had water strangely even hot water the whole time but no electricity or rolling blackouts.
I love that your parents were so concerned. When you told us your dad was coming to meet you half way I almost shed a whole tear. That is so sweet. Having a loving family is so priceless.
I swear I'm not ranting. This year and last year taught me to not rely on the govt, congress, or the President. I've been going on Amazon and stocking up on supplies and freeze dried food that people who go camping use. The shelf life on those products are good & you dont need a stove or microwave. Imo I think those who are in charge are using US as guinea pigs for everything lately. I'm only saying all of this to hopefully motivate others to look out for theirselves and stock up too.

@@ladycoco473 you don't use anything. You eat it out of the package. Its precooked meals but taste fresh because its freeze dried. If you get mountain house pouches you just need boiling water.
Seeing how your mom was making things happen bought back memories🤣 living up north in the cold or having an appliance be cut off really brings out the creativity. We've used the snow to keep food cold, the car to warm blankets and or warm up every few hours, a lighter to use the stove, a generator to be able to plug in atleast 1 phone for emergencies and even took turns bundling ourselves up in 3 layers of clothes and a coat to walk to the corner store and get filling snacks to eat. You gotta do what you gotta do. I never and will never take things for granted.
I remember years and years ago something happened and our power was out for a week in the dead of winter and we were completly snowed in.
Now this was in rural canada so it was cooooold.
My Dad dug through our camping supplies got out a camp stove and a space heater that ran on propane and we gathered up every blanket we owned and huddled together in the living room.
I remember trying to figure out random different meal combinations with the food we had. One night we had potato hash with montreal steak spice....it was actually not bad.
Right after the snow lifted and we were able to dig ourselves out Dad went into the city and bought a backup generator for the house so we'd never have to deal with it again.

You need to get a generator for emergencies !!! My family has about 3 in my house, they always come in clutch during emergencies like these as a source of electricity. Love from New York 🗽❤️

Raven i would consider an emergency kit if anything like this should ever happen again. (Canned goods, batteries, flashlights, candles, blankets, bottled water, etc) this is how we survive on the east coast when its hurricane season

Girl we were in the same boat. When I was talking to me husband and seen smoke coming out of my mouth I said its time to go to the car. I don't know what the temp was inside but we started getting numbness in our feet. Thank God both our cars was full of gas. 3 days blacked out.

Ms Toni reminds me of my mom. She passed away when I was 10. My mom would make anything work in any situation. Hurricane Andrew in the early 90s messed up south Florida so bad. We were out of power for days and days. But my mom grilled up different meat and cooked big breakfasts for us and some neighbors. We did have gas though. I miss her seeing your mom. Ms Toni is very wholesome and humble.

I had a whole emergency c section during this winter storm. My mom and son were without power for 38 hours had to go stay with somebody it was too much🥺

Girl, we're in Houston. We had now power for over 48 hours and I had a 10 month old. I could literally see my own breathe in the house and decided to go stay with my sister in law. Went back to the house to find out we had 2 busted pipes so here goes 2.5 months of repair

Ive been a Michigan resident all my life so I’m used to the cold BUT, even with that being said, extreme below freezing weather is A LOT-its actually the freaking worse. So, I can’t imagine being a southerner all my life then bam 💥 a snow apocalypse hits with no warning. Southern states just don’t have the infrastructure to handle freezing weather. My heart goes out to all Texans that had to endure this. I’m glad things are going back to normal. 🖤

once your parents have gotten the living room fully dry again they need to have someone come and investigate for potential mold that could have formend in/behind the walls - that can be a serious health hazard
Girl I feel your pain. My saving grace was that I live near two big hospital so I had heat and electricity (on the same electric grid and them). I am so glad that you guys didn't have major damage to your houses and that everyone was safe.

Regardless of what y'all were dealing with, I'm glad to hear that y'all, you and your family are doing okay, thankfully you didn't get any major issues that occurred, and although you walked your parents was nearby.
My heart and prayers went out and still goes out to those who are in Texas or near that area! Although everything may be back, I still hope that everyone is just staying safe and being mindful of others!

I used one of those buffet candles when I was homeless for a while. You could use it to boil water for a “bath”. I used it for boiling ramen packs. Water, ramen, budget meat packs and bread was all I could afford trying to stretch food stamps. Man that was quite a time in my life.

I lived through this iceapocalypse in this city it was tough for me, I've never stood on line for almost an hour to check out at the grocery store, shelves were 90% empty, bottled water was literally a prized possession, I was freezing in my apt. I'm grateful for everything, was able to assist at a center that were distributing basic essential donations.

Depending on your roof situation, maybe look into getting some solar panels so that you'll at least have power.

Tiffany Tillett that’s interesting. It was my understanding that solar panels are able to hold a charge to be used when there is no sun, because obviously every day is not sunny. I live in the northeast where we get snow regularly and solar panels are fairly prevalent. Depending on the type of panel you have is how much charge you’re able to hold.
@@TheAnonymous1912 from what they said, you have to pay for extra infrastructure in order to do that and not everyone does. Not sure what the cost difference is
