Both Anakin and Vader were on the same page on this one. He’s got both the angel and the devil on his shoulder telling him to destroy the chip. It’s pretty obvious he’s going to destroy the chip.
I would say replace. It is no secret Palpatine wanted Vader replaced after being defeated by Obi-Wan. It could be the children could become Inquistors or even force sensitive spies like how he imagined in the Clone Wars when he had Cad Bane kidnap those children, or depending on how strong they become, potential replacements for Vader.
I think he did this for two reasons. For one, those children are innocent. The kids at the Jedi Temple were already Jedi, they were well indoctrinated in the Jedi Way and in his mind there was no saving them and they were a threat. But the children on that list did nothing, they were innocent and might not even know of their gift. The other, more obvious, reason is because he wanted to eliminate any chances of Palpatine finding someone to replace him.
This is something people also don't understand. The Jedi weren't above killing children themselves. Or parents in front of children. Also, they would literally put 11-12 year olds in active combat as Padawans. They gave light-sabers to like 8 year olds and had them fight droids or occasionally each other. I mean Anakin himself built his lightsaber at 12 and started his training at 9, and that was considered late. The security holograms in ROTS show one child with a lightsaber attempting to fight back. Although that looks more like a teenager. These were people who literally trained child soldiers and as you say, indoctrinated them from birth. Or near enough from birth. Honestly it´s probably a bit of both but not wanting to be replaced had the highest weight plus he had no guarantees he would get to train some of those children into being his loyal apprentices, for all he knew Palps could do whatev he wanted with them and bandwagon him with them anytime he wanted to.
This just adds on the fact that he could LIVE and become GOOD in the end, unlike Legends when he became good and died. He took one step closer or he was never that far gone, I'm looking forward to these comics
Incredible! Definitely gonna check out this comic. It may seem Vader is conflicted, but this seems like Sith 101: lies, deceit, betrayal. Vader doesn't want his master to continue to grow in power and perhaps, find someone else more suitable or a more powerful apprentice.
I love that they're giving vader more depth besides turning to the dark side then just being palpatine's lap dog. I love this cunning scheming side to him that we haven't really seen in the films
I wish that we knew which was Vader's true motivation for this...a desire to prevent future rivals from rising,...or a desire to protect the children from Palpatine.
Most awesome vid!!!!!!!!!! So Jocasta Nu knew the Darth Vader was really Anakin Skywalker and it seems that Darth Vader was starting to question his own choices!!!!!!!!!!
When he destroyed the crystal, he not only prevented his from master betraying him, he did a selfless act by saving the kids. There's a chance that a little bit of the light shined through.
Vader's thoughts: These children must never experience the pain and suffering I go through. They will live happy and healthy lives with their parents. *Destroys the crystal* Continue to live free, kids.
Great job, Bessy! Really liked the video and this issue! But, I must confess, I still don’t really understand why Vader crushed the microchip. He could’ve used that info to find an apprentice strong enough in the force to help him overthrow Sidious. I realize that the likely explanation for him destroying the chip is that he didn’t want it to fall into Sidious’ hands so that he would not be replaced by someone else. But I would have thought his desire to find a strong apprentice would outweigh this risk, especially considering that he would have been in control of the chip. At this point, has he learned of Luke’s existence? I thought this was before that. But maybe not.
Kirt Garnett it's immediately after episode 3, part of me thinks he doesn't want rivals and the other part says maybe Anakin crushes the chip in an effort to spare the children
@@Trelitty11 I think that's possible. People are like "but he killed younglings, that proves he did not care about children". That forget the younglings in the Temple were *Jedi* already. They'd been indoctrinated into their beliefs since birth, and some had probably already began combat training. They liked to start them young, and literally put teenagers, sometimes pre-teens into active combat. It very likely Anakin in ROTS, if he was even thinking rationally at all, saw the younglings as beyond hope, already owned by the Jedi and a potential future threat. He lumped them in with all the other Jedi as targets to be eliminated to so speak. Or even as a mercy killing because he knew the Clone Troopers would probably find them anyway. I would still kinda argue even at that point in Episode 3 it is not as if he was going out of his way to find as many children as he could to kill because he enjoyed it.
@@englishlady9797 you could literally see the conflict in him before he killed them . and its not like he would have had a choice. The clones would have killed them . had he spared them Palpatine would have seen this as a betraying and killed him as well. There was just no going back

That glimmer of the light side, still buried deep within him, not allowing him to set those children on a path similar to his.... ....or that shadow of the dark side, not wanting the competition......
I read that issue, Jocasta Nu died . If you look closely at the wreckage behind Vader you'll see he corpse. The background is only penciled and inked, so she is easy to miss at first glance.
I think this is a brief moment where Vader's humanity surfaced for a moment. Or that it was an act of defiance to sabotage the Emperor from achieving his One Sith goal. take your pick
In Legends... Vader had a hand in creating the Rebel Alliance... I Don't Remember if they did so in the new Disney Canon... Anakin had always wanted to be The One who brings peace and justice to the universe... Some of it might have slipped through to Vader in a twisted fashion of overthrowing Sideous and becoming the New Emperor...
Saving the children, more specifically his own. Vader knew about Luke & Leia before ANH so he knew one day they could grow strong enough & defy Palpatine which they did
Even in ROTS its not like I Anakin went out of his way to find kids to kill because he enjoyed it. The younglings were already trained as Jedi, they'd been indoctrinated for years, and had already probably began combat training. The Jedi literally trained them from 6 and above and put them in active combat sometimes as early as 12. In the ROTS movie when Obi Wan view the security holograms one of the older Padawans can even be seen with a lightsaber trying to fight back. From his viewpoint, if he was even thinking rationally at all, the younglings were Jedi, and were therefore a threat. He might even have tried to justify it in his own mind as a mercy killing, telling himself that the Clone troopers would have found them anyway before long. The Jedi were hardly paragons of virtue, nor models of child welfare. They put kids on the battlefield, and even had them fight each other with deadly weapons on occasions.
I'd like to think that somewhere in that unfeeling shell of life-support, the man Vader used to be had an influence on his decision to destroy the list and lie to his master (and in doing so protected those children from falling into the emperor's clutches) But really, I have to say Vader was more likely protecting his own position as Palpatine's apprentice
Wow just wow maybe he did it out of fear not to be replaced but I like to believe that the part of sky walker was still in there somewhere and that he did not want to see harm come to these children that some small part of him was human if for just that one moment skywalker wasn’t dead yet he was still alive deep down inside him so thank you very much and I still believe my hero held out of fully becoming evil.
Just like the Jedi did then. They had a habit of rounding up babies as well. They were literally given the power to round up any force sensitives in the Galaxy and either detain them 'for their own good' or make them into Jedi.
That scene was fantastic. Apparently, Vader showed a bit of kind heroic Anakin in him that was left. He didn’t even realize it and probably did years later right before he met his death on the Second Death Star near the end of Return Of The Jedi. Sometimes a villain has to somewhat do a heroic deed even if he doesn’t mean to.
I think Palpatine won't care much about the loss of the memory crystal; he probably has something to deal with that loss. Maybe he also figures out that Vader lied.

Honestly it´s probably a bit of both but not wanting to be replaced had the highest weight plus he had no guarantees he would get to train some of those children into being his loyal apprentices, for all he knew Palps could do whatev he wanted with them and bandwagon him with them anytime he wanted to.
His Anakin Skywalker is showing a bit while he doesn't realize it
This just adds on the fact that he could LIVE and become GOOD in the end, unlike Legends when he became good and died. He took one step closer or he was never that far gone, I'm looking forward to these comics
Technically he didn't do it for the well being of the children, he just didn't want to be replaced.
Incredible! Definitely gonna check out this comic. It may seem Vader is conflicted, but this seems like Sith 101: lies, deceit, betrayal. Vader doesn't want his master to continue to grow in power and perhaps, find someone else more suitable or a more powerful apprentice.
The light was never driven from him fully. He hated his life. In a moment of clarity he decided that no one should go through what he did.
This list should have Starkiller on it, it would be a perfect way to make him canon again and would make how and why Vader found him a lot deeper
Vader wanted Starkiller as a apprentice but the rest of the list was uneeded.
What about the droid attack on the Wookies?
The poor droids never stood a chance... #RIPdroids #DroidLivesMatter
@@droidy365 Nobody ever gives a thought to the droids, but R2D2 is a vitally important character.
I love that they're giving vader more depth besides turning to the dark side then just being palpatine's lap dog. I love this cunning scheming side to him that we haven't really seen in the films
Still a spark of humanity deep within him that wasn’t the only time Vader saved children
That green light saber Jo Casta had is the same as the Grand Inquisitor's only its green where did she get it?
She got it before she fled from the Temple.
Wasn't a holocron containing the same data also a mcguffin in Fallen Order?
Absolutely! Make the comicmovie that would be extremely awesome!
2:13 he looks so happy
I believe he did this in order not to be replaced by the new force sensitive children in the future, not because he wanted to save the children.
“You are bad guy, but that does not mean you are bad guy.”
I wish that we knew which was Vader's true motivation for this...a desire to prevent future rivals from rising,...or a desire to protect the children from Palpatine.
Remnants of Anakin within Vader... I love to see that..
Most awesome vid!!!!!!!!!! So Jocasta Nu knew the Darth Vader was really Anakin Skywalker and it seems that Darth Vader was starting to question his own choices!!!!!!!!!!
OH man, makes even more sense now why we see a force sensitive at the end of the last Jedi. Gets me excited about the future of the franchise.
As always, great video, BessY!
When he destroyed the crystal, he not only prevented his from master betraying him, he did a selfless act by saving the kids. There's a chance that a little bit of the light shined through.
I thought Anakin learned what memory crystals do during the Clone Wars series? Where Cad Bane is heavily involved and infiltrated the Jedi Temple?
Vader's thoughts: These children must never experience the pain and suffering I go through. They will live happy and healthy lives with their parents. *Destroys the crystal* Continue to live free, kids.
Reads a comic where Darth Vader kills a husband and kidnaps his child and now this. Vaders life is a rollercoaster.
BESSY I LIKE YOUR COMICS ITS ONE OF THE BEST I HAVE WATCH
I need more detail on her lightsaber blaster. Holy hell, that thing is awesome
There was just no going back
@@Trelitty11 Exactly. He didn't really know what the Sith were about even then. The Jedi didn't exactly educate their members on the subject.
He'd just seen him kill Mace Windu, and must've wondered what else he was capable of. Plus locked in a room with a madman who'll kill you if you don't do what he says.
So now we know another reason why the saber rifle wasn't used a lot cause if it malfunctions it will also melt the saber
Well it's good to know there is a bit of Ankin left in Vader.
This is why i love vader it shows how truly good he is
Vader is awesome
anyone translate the aurabesh on vader's eye's to see if its anyone we know?
Looks like Galactic Basic Standard for me, starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Galactic_Basic_Standard
@@abraxofficial thats the legends version canon version seems more accurate as galactic basic aka aruebesh.
The yoinglings be like: This is outrageous! It's unfair!
They should do a Stand alone movie. VADER: A Star Wars Story. That would shatter Box office records. We all know we world love to see more Vader.
The fact that Vader hid the kids from palatine shows that he still had good in him and that he was never evil.
the first step towards the light side...
I want Disney to make a new canon comic series focusing on Vader and Appo's friendship like in Legends when Appo was a trusted friend of Vader.
I think this is a brief moment where Vader's humanity surfaced for a moment. Or that it was an act of defiance to sabotage the Emperor from achieving his One Sith goal. take your pick
Yeah, it's the latter. I doubt Vader's humanity ever surfaced before he found out about Luke.
I think it's both!
But Vader helped the jedi in a big way but he will always be a sith and he might do good but only when it suits him.
I'd say thats a plus and great addition into the -new- Vader canon.
If only Vader would've thought of doing that when Luke tried it 2:05
Probably the anakin inside vader wanted luke to escape
That was epic I love that Vader is not completely cruel that's why I love Vader
So I guess Darth Vader still had good in him before Return of The Jedi?
Darth Vaders armour apparently comes with a built-in usb port
Yes what a great issue. I say yes please do what you can to bring it to life. I cant seem to get enough Darth Vader these days. Thanks!
Reminds me. Anakin could have turned those kids over to the dark side instead of killing them in revenge of the sith.
Omg what? This is what i was waiting for!!!
Vader I'm not having competition crushes crystal. Emperor calls
Vader everything is under control we got this down here
I'd like to think that somewhere in that unfeeling shell of life-support, the man Vader used to be had an influence on his decision to destroy the list and lie to his master (and in doing so protected those children from falling into the emperor's clutches)
But really, I have to say Vader was more likely protecting his own position as Palpatine's apprentice
Vader was not protecting anything. He simply does not want to be replaced.
He did not to this for the children but for himself to not be ever replaced as Sidious' apprentice
this series is ridiculously good
So that’s how Vader knows how to find babies in Rebels?
Just like the Jedi did then. They had a habit of rounding up babies as well. They were literally given the power to round up any force sensitives in the Galaxy and either detain them 'for their own good' or make them into Jedi.
Nice can't wait for the other pages you read to us.
Love those sound effects
That scene was fantastic. Apparently, Vader showed a bit of kind heroic Anakin in him that was left. He didn’t even realize it and probably did years later right before he met his death on the Second Death Star near the end of Return Of The Jedi. Sometimes a villain has to somewhat do a heroic deed even if he doesn’t mean to.
I think Palpatine won't care much about the loss of the memory crystal; he probably has something to deal with that loss. Maybe he also figures out that Vader lied.
And I don't think he did it to save the children I believe he only did that to stop sideous from using the kids to create a new apprentice
he did it for himself-to keep from being replaced.
god i love vader's belt computer.
I'd like to think that Vader had some compassion for those kids and didn't want them to be put through what he suffered.
Vader could train those children himself to raise acolytes to overthrow Palpatine
