I would really love to see Norristown get the same revitalization treatment that Ambler, Lansdale and Phoenixville have had in the last decade. Would love to hear people's thoughts on how they think Norristown will be revived over the next 10 years (or if it won't!). I think there is enough money and interest in doing so, and I think that huge courthouse project will really help to make main street more appealing. I don't know that it will ever be at Doylestown or West Chester levels, but I think it can get much better (and safer) than it is now. I know they are also trying to revive the state hospital there to better serve the mental health/ addiction crisis in the area. I think this could be an incredible community in the coming years, but we need to fight an uphill battle of people associating "Norristown" with "Sh--hole". Certainly the surrounding areas in Trooper/ Audubon/ W & E Norriton, Plymouth Meeting and Valley Forge are really great places to live, hoping Norristown will finally see a piece of that success.
I wish you were correct. I’ve heard that norristown ships It’s mentally ill and homeless off in busses to Pottstown because it has cheap housing and that is partly why Pottstown has gotten really bad. I worked at the mall so I could see it.
My husband and I came to Norristown in 1999 as new homeowners seeking affordable housing that was close to highways and KOP (where I worked at the time) and never left because it just kept serving our needs. We raised our daughter here through the public schools and she loved her experience and is thriving at college now. We love being part of a diverse, progressive and growing town with beautiful architecture, a rich history, and a bright future! Very good video, Chris, and thank you for making it!

I am happy to see something positive about this part of suburban Philadelphia region. I was born at Lankenau hospital and grew up in Valley Forge. Visited my father in Coshohocken and Norristown for many years. Norristown was synonymous in my mind with fear of drug activity, and very heavy incarceration activity. I really hope Norristown can continue on the up and up if it really is going in that direction now.
Norristown is on a big come back been here since 2006 I hope things get better 🙏🏿 it is successful but it felt like more of a community when I came here technology changed things a lot.
It's home and familiar and family is here. But not much else here. Not many good jobs. High taxes. If you need government assistance many offices are here to help. It's a place for people who are starting out and immigrants because of all the social services. i don't think our local leaders think bringing good paying jobs and development are important. They like depending on high taxes and money from Harrisburg and always fighting an uphill battle to survive.
They do have a lot of diversity in Norristown and a lot of places where you can also enjoy diverse food as well. There are some nice people in Norristown, but you have a lot of not so nice people as well. There is a culture of people who wanna fight, argue, disrespect their elders, disrespect women, steal out of the local stores that cannot stop them and curse people out and don't care. My youngest son was also born at Montgomery 🙌🏾 Thanks for your comment, Rylee. There are definitely a lot of positive things going on within the community 💪🏾
What's wrong with gentrification? Afraid the properties there might actually be worth buying? Guess what, if you can't afford the cost of living In your area, that's your own failure. Time to move.
I was born at Sacred Heart Hospital. My family and I lived across the street from Lou's Hoagies Shop on Main St. We moved to Conshohocken in 1983 when I was 7 years old. All of my mom's family still lives in Norristown. Norristown was late to the game when Pennsylvania gave out grants for revitalization of neighborhoods. Conshohocken took the grants in the 80's and our one square mile town was on the cutting-edge of growing and improving. Hopefully Norristown will have the same outcomes that Conshy has.
You’re so right, they we’re definitely late to the game. Conshohocken has become an amazing community with thriving businesses. It would be great to see Norristown offer the same. Phoenixville is another great community who has gone through quite the transition over the years.
This video cannot be real. I ride my bike through there sometimes and it's beyond sketchy. So much crime. My sister lived there and would hear gunshots at night she moved out of there as soon as she could.
I been away from Norristown for over 20 yrs ..l was amazed by the changes made..yes as well my family has a family owned buisness One stop .. Check cashing & Pawn & Gold ..
Norristowns future is scary. The way the school district has no discipline for their students acting out, skipping classes, having terrible grades. The fact that Roosevelt even exists goes to show how bad our school system is. I think forcing students into doing group activities like sports or clubs is enough to help students stay out of trouble.
@@WhoMovesYou Both. I graduated in 2020. You spend 180 days there, 8-9 hours a day, it’s kind of like a second home. It’s a parents and teachers responsibility to help their student/kid get their education that they need to not end up on the streets selling drugs to get by. There is so much potential for Norristown but the school district has only gotten worse over the years.
@@WhoMovesYou it's the state's fault. Norristown has a lead paint problem because it's older. Lead poisoning is highly correlative with behavioral problems and poor grades. As the county seat, Norristown has a lot of non-taxable property in its boundaries and does not have the tax base to deal with a lot of its problems on its own and should be getting help from Harrisburg.
@@kofinater as a realtor who works a large territory, lead paint is an issue in MANY communities with older homes. Norristown is a large rental community and because of the required testing, you’re finding out about the presence. This isn’t a Norristown problem. It’s common in any community with older homes.
Oh...boyee...is it *really* THAT bad in person? Some of these comments are making me a little bit scared to visit and possibly relocate there..Got me thinking of Good Times...😮🤣😂😱
The zoo is awesome but the area is dangerous. Most people don’t stop at stop signs they roll through. Food selection is ok. Not very good choices if you have court duty.
I'm a 16 year old that has lived in Jenkintown, Philadelphia, Pheonixville, Langhorne, etc. And to say that the leaders of Norristown are ignorant and irresponsible would be an understatement. Trust me, the people here are not bad. It's mayor and town officials are neglectful of this town. It's a horrible situation and someone higher up needs to crack down NOW.
@@WhoMovesYou First of all, they need to crack down on the criminal youth here. Most are just misguided or have fallen into the wrong crowd. A popular character here, MaskDownMar is sort of like the main guy leading the bs going on. Guns are in and out of the school daily and transactions of illegal drugs go on. There was a new student who was offering to aid in money laundering and expansion. It's crazy.
@@WhoMovesYou Huge fight happened yesterday, from the looks of it it was a brawl of 50 students, and they're going straight to blaming families and students rather than acknowledging that they allow this to go on.
Legitimate question. Yes, unfortunately Norristown does report higher crime rates than some other surrounding communities. Most of the report crime is property/theft related.

I grew up spending my weekends at my grandparents house on Trooper Rd. Loved the zoo. Texas Hots at Montgomery Lunch. Hell, I was born in Norristown. Years later, I moved there. Lived on Airy St for almost 3 years. And now, I can honestly say, from the bottom of my heart, with every fiber of my being, FU@& NORRISTOWN. Not everyone or everything is bad. Some nice places. Decent people. Even an actual good cop or two. But unfortunately 90% of the police force is on an ego fueled power trip. The majority of the local officials have god complexes. The prison is corrupt as hell. The homeless population is tremendous, growing, and offered very little help or opportunity. The drug situation is out of control and beyond belief. It's a damn shame. Comparing what it was to what it is, seeing what it has become and will be. The best thing to do in Norristown is LEAVE . . .
It depends on where your located . We got lucky growing up right there on Markley st where it’s mostly businesses and restaurants. I agree with the amount of history that Norristown hold besides the history there’s nothing exciting about Norristown at all! The cost of living is extremely high. I hope Norristown does something with Main Street like make it a cool strip to shop and eat. The Mexicans are doing well for themselves with Marshall street, they have markets bakery and little boutiques. Over all Norristown is nothing to write home about.
Depends where “home” is. If you’re concerned about the amount of businesses owned by the Mexican population, what actions should be taken to see other business owners come in? Are you a business owner? Do you plan on owning a business? Or are you just here to complain?
@@WhoMovesYou None of what I said was a complaint these are observations based on my experience living in town which so happens to be actual facts. So where are you going with your reply to my comment?

What's wrong with gentrification? Afraid the properties there might actually be worth buying? Guess what, if you can't afford the cost of living In your area, that's your own failure. Time to move.
There are some gorgeous historic homes in Norristown.
Very much so!! 2 of my favorite are on Dekalb Pk. And Johnson Hwy behind the old Kennedy Kendrick.
I love this video. Norristown is my heart.
Thank you! I hope to become more involved with some revitalization projects as time progresses. Norristown is dear to me too.
Not middle class no more hopefully one day
Lower class is actually giving it to much credit.
Norristown Forever!
I’m hoping they fix my home town of Coatesville up to.
Yesssir norristown class of 2001 baby!!
Class of 2000 for me!!
I like Akim. Congratulations on ur success sir.
This video cannot be real. I ride my bike through there sometimes and it's beyond sketchy. So much crime. My sister lived there and would hear gunshots at night she moved out of there as soon as she could.
It’s real 💯
@@WhoMovesYou I hope the city can get back on track but unfortunately the crime is so bad there.
Yes, I would agree that crime rates could be better.
I been away from Norristown for over 20 yrs ..l was amazed by the changes made..yes as well my family has a family owned buisness One stop .. Check cashing & Pawn & Gold ..
Which location, Main St?
Norristowns future is scary. The way the school district has no discipline for their students acting out, skipping classes, having terrible grades. The fact that Roosevelt even exists goes to show how bad our school system is. I think forcing students into doing group activities like sports or clubs is enough to help students stay out of trouble.
Is it the schools fault or the parents? I’m asking as a graduate of Norristown?
It is not small and it is not safe
Exactly! Dangerous needs a warning sign saying stay out.
Montgomery county's version of Delaware county's Chester. This city owes you a grip for making it look that good my dood.
Oh...boyee...is it *really* THAT bad in person? Some of these comments are making me a little bit scared to visit and possibly relocate there..Got me thinking of Good Times...😮🤣😂😱
NOT FAR FROM HERE♥️
Sweet!
It was also as well from 1964-2001
The zoo is awesome but the area is dangerous. Most people don’t stop at stop signs they roll through. Food selection is ok. Not very good choices if you have court duty.
😱😮😦😲😯😳🥺😧😨😰😱OMG--Are you *serious*?!? Gonna have to reconsider relocating here....
I always say how it must have been beautiful back in the day, with the castle-looking houses. Not anymore.
Just gonna ignore the zoo?? The Norristown zoo is a gem! And rn there is a major project being done to it.
Yes, I’m aware of the project.
Eat a zep go down buddy Epps barbershop and go see La Roma’s
That’s exactly how to do it 🙌🏾😂
That’s my family. He’s still cutting too
Buddy still Cutting on penn & Green? I'll skip La,Romas since Benny Sold it to Anthony...it not the same as I remember...
KEEEEM..
You’re not the only one who has said that. What’s the first thing you’d like to see them change/improve?
How you go to cole manor? We all got shipped out to Paul fly
Sounds like we went to school before you. I have a few friends who went to Cole Manor. However I also went to Paul Fly.
honest question, is there a lot of crime in that area? if so is it mostly robbery or murder?
Legitimate question. Yes, unfortunately Norristown does report higher crime rates than some other surrounding communities. Most of the report crime is property/theft related.
@@WhoMovesYou to be honest it’s only gotten worse and the Democratic political situation makes it hopeless for the residents
An 82 yr old lady l do handyman work for was tied up and robbed in W Norriton (1/2 mi north of Norristown)
The area needs to be nuked from space...
it s the only way to be sure

This place use to be amazing back before i was a around when the Italians ran it.
Yes! When the Italians ran it was amazing. Then blacks moved in because government forces section 8 and stuff like that now it’s Spanish in most places.
Yea the Italians ran it and the lawmakers and cops were crooked so was the mayor.
@@melanatedj9660 - it was better living there when the Italians ran it.

Yes Norristown is a splendid garden spot to live in. Low crime, taxes and no drugs. Oh Wow 😲 thanks councilman! Btw your checks in the 📬 mail. Baha Ah ha 😂😆 lol.
You said it best! LMAO!
The best thing to do in Norristown is LEAVE . . .
Born an raised an I hate this place.. ain’t nothing to do for kids an the streets are bad.. not a good look
It depends on where your located .
We got lucky growing up right there on Markley st where it’s mostly businesses and restaurants.
If you go way down the east end past Dekalb st it’s FAR from sweet you can get touched on , if you go too far up main st by the budget inn (now called red carpet inn) chances are your surrounded by smokers and dudes that are constantly in and out of jail
eat a zep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! go to Eves and Lou's go Norristown
A zep is an absolute must!!
Lous closed down a few years ago 😢 I went every year for my birthday
Myself and sister were waiting for food in Gangster Vegan and Lili Taylor walked in. Nobody remembered her name so everyone was like 'hey.. it's you.. from the movies...' She was pissed!🤣

Only problem is it has very high taxes. Grew up in Norristown from age 4 till I got married. There has been a lot of changes, some good some bad.
Only time that I got thrown out of a bar was over 40 years ago. We were working outside on a cold damp day and decided to go to a Noristown bar to eat lunch & warm up. As we entered two girls who would never win a beauty pageant said something nasty to my boss. He yelled where you going to the SPCA to get your dog tags. Any way the bartender/owner heard him then throw us out. Me & another coworker never spoke a single word.

“ There’s nothing exciting about Norristown at all! The cost of living is extremely high.” Noted. I now understand the difference between an observation and a complaint. Thanks again!
@@WhoMovesYou you’re welcome 😉
Don't believe anything that's being talked about here. They don't call it the arm pit of Montgomery for no reason.
Lol. Ok. Enjoy your weekend.
It's a crap hole with maybe 3 good streets closer to east norriton

I always thought it was the Armpit of Pennsylvania?
Bread is king absolute! I live in scranton pa around it I mean. But my girlfriend parents moved up to Muncy Valley PA they dont have any baker's up there. They don't even know of national bakery
Bucks county is way better than Montgomery. Actually nice buildings and schools. If you have money, do not move to Norristown.
You’re comparing an entire county to a small town. I’m not seeing the correlation, but I appreciate your insight. I will honestly say that there are some extremely questionable areas within Bucks County but say what you will. Lol
Fix these streets please
All depends the which side of Norristown because I lived there. It's more drug dealers than anything
