This video is amazing, I am hitting this position off of Ankle Picks and having a much easier time submitting with the Ankle Lock and transitioning to Belly Down. The breaking pressure is so strong that I can complete the Ankle Lock with one hand and use the other to strip their grips off of my gi.
I like this as a position. It would be wonderful to see some ways of entering into it from different positions. I'm in a place where my body knows how to get to the 'old school' position from just about everywhere, but I don't really have a range of entries for this yet.
When you find yourself in the 'old school' ashi-garami position - which you seem to know how to enter - lots of people will escape by pushing your outside foot off and sliding their hip off of it. When they do that, it's a perfect time to pull your inside foot out and post on their hip for the new school footlock.
I never had a name for this, I always thought of it as "outside ashi straight ankle", even though it locks almost like a toe hold. How long until IBJJF cracks down on it?
So if if you are in a no gi situation should you always fall the other way and reap using saddle etc...... and only use this in Ibjjf rule set. Or does this offer enough control to use in no gi?

4) If they peel your bracing foot off to try to leg drag, you can easily move to the tripod ankle lock, which is even harder breaking presure
