    This must have been the first day for this dispatcher...to not know "jack" about his streets and surrounding area, not to mention how lost he seems to be talking to an honest citizen trying to get equipment back to its rightful owner. The caller said he had to go to work and he would leave it at his house so the responding unit could pick it up. How hard can that really be??

      The older Motorola crystal controlled commercial radios used by the fire/police like the HT, MT, MX were quite expensive as well. At least $1,200.00 or more per unit. I've read the MX-300 was nearly $2,000.00

      The radio wouldn't be anywhere near $6k... Because there's so many new companies building Public Service radios now (It used to be just Motorola & E F Johnson..) portable radios that used to cost $900 are about $250, and multi-channel P25 radios seldom go for more than $1200 - $1500

    • @Elfnetdesigns
      @Elfnetdesigns 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      None of you obviously have a clue what you are talking about. the newest Motorola HTs do cost upwards of $6K, the APX series is still being manufactured and sold to this day and still retails for well over $3K new barebones.
      NO ONE uses crystal controlled radios for public safety or commercial business in the US. Only hobbyists and even then it's rare.
      The radios used by police and fire crews are not your toy Chinafeng ham radio crap either. They cost big $$$$ and when they loose one they have to pay for it to be replaced and if its a digital radio they have to send a kill command to it to lock it up and render it useless..
      Now in this video published in 2015 they are not using a digital modulation system like P25, they are not even on a trunking system. The MDC1200 ANI gives that away. MDC is not available in trunking mode nor on digital formats, only analog. With that said they could still be using something like an HT1250 or 1550 which will do the required narrowband, and the cost there is literally $500 to replace it if even that.. Since they no longer manufacture them and are still selling off NOS

    This is awesome, really amazing guy for him to go out of his way to figure out who it belonged to and try and return it. He deserves a reward, its quite brave that he did that, especially considering he wasnt fluent in English
    As for the dispatcher, you really should know the area your working in, street names, and just as much I have a hard time believing that no one in the dispatch center spoke spanish, Its a 911 center, there has to be someone who could have translated

    • @Gamebreaker08
      @Gamebreaker08 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Let'S Make Change why would a person in Iowa need to know Spanish? Try going to rural Mexico and see if anyone knows English.

    • @gibsonst
      @gibsonst 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Let'S Make Change Let'S Make Change 9-1-1 centers usually have access to on-demand interpreters for dozens of languages via the phone (service is called Language Line). But the service is designed for telephone use...It really isn't conducive to half-duplex modes like radio. Having even basic skills speaking other languages can be a tremendous asset to a dispatcher-indeed, to the 9-1-1 center itself...And by extension, the community at large.
      And yes, I too felt that the dispatcher's area knowledge sounded a bit weak.

    • @letsmakechange7138
      @letsmakechange7138 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gamebreaker08 a 9-1-1 dispatch center needs to have the ability to translate any language...otherwise people would in some cases be unable to request help...so yes...someone in the dispatch center needs to speak a different language...because apprently in your mind everyone in every state only speaks english, which is pretty basic common sense that no not everyone speaks english

    • @letsmakechange7138
      @letsmakechange7138 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Recneps thank you for the info, I always knew they had a way of translation...because of course not everyone communicating with 9-1-1 will speak English, but thats a good point it being over the radio rather than a phone call

    • @jdanon203
      @jdanon203 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Gamebreaker08 Erm bad example. I think you will find most people in Mexico, even in rural areas, know English to varying extents. I mean the Mexican government recognizes something like 70 languages because of all the dialects, and Americans piss and moan that .gov offers documents in a handful of languages that aren't English?

    I am glad the guy took the time to turn it in. He could have sold it to a criminal that could have used it for no good against police, fire, or ems as most radios are programed with all channels. No matter what anyone says, to make fun, the guy did the right thing as it really was not his problem. Not to mention, the guy has a job for the love of god, he was GOING TO WORK. There are some neighborhoods that almost no one goes to work and the radio would have almost surely been used for no good.

      Joshua Eugin it's harder with a duplex radio because theres multiple towers it bounces off of so making an exact pinpoint of a radio using duplex makes it impossible. Simplex would be easier as it's one tower.

      Also where this man lives is not a town they dispatch for but the department that lost the radio was just acquired by the dispatch center.

      Bobcat1Deere2Cat3 still even i could get the jist of what he said. He gave the numeric address clearly but the name of the street came out slight iffy but still enough to do a search on. A simple 2 second search would have fixed the the misspelled address and directed them without issue.

    • @yourworstnightmare8745

      Allen hawk funny thing is, if the radio was attached to the SCBA (some companies have radio pouches that clip to the SCBA so there is no extra wires or antenna getting caught on everything while searching.) So it could've gotten knocked off or it fell out of the pocket after getting hung up on something.

    And this is the problem with our immigration system and lack of official language. English should be the official language and to be here legally you should have to show proof you can speak,understand,and read in english. Without those skills,how are you to communicate with Rescue personnel and or law Enforcement WHEN the need arises? How are you going to be able to know what the DO NOT ENTER sign says or the ROAD CLOSED sign if you cannot read english?
