    I ride a scootie with drum brakes. No clutch system, both are brakes. When riding I keep the rear brake slightly pressed, heating it up. When i hit both brakes during emergency, the front brake is more efficient and this causes a spin or drift and has caused me lots of injuries until I understood the workings of brakes and net torque. My dad once got into a terrible accident as a truck driver because his truck would always jerk to the side when he hit the brakes. This one time, someone cut in front of him, so he really slammed on the brakes. The entire truck flipped over and landed on it's side. He could've died. Luckily, he only had a few cuts and scrapes, and nobody else was injured. I never understood what he meant when he said there was something wrong with the brakes but now I do! and what makes a sport engine a sport engine compared to other engines, i'm a go kart driver and the amateurs karts uses 390cc 13-21hp engines (that last forever) and professional karts uses a 125cc engine that produces up to 45hp . why a truck engine have a low rpm? while a f1 higher...

    • @jim6213
      @jim6213 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ReickyTcharles a 125cc engine in order to produce more power , needs to rev higher . For they purpose a smaller compression ratio is used ( which means that the Pistons have to cover a smaller distance) and larger diameter Pistons are used. Trucks need to carry a lot of weight. Thus, they need more torque ( which means turning force) to achieve this, diesel engines are used. A diesel engine has a higher compression ratio , so with each stroke, it produces more power, than a stroke in a gasoline engine( which has a lower compression ratio). Thus it doesn't need to rev as high to produce power .
      In sport engines high horsepower ( horsepower is torque produced in a certain amount of time) is needed for optimal acceleration. So I think that's why they use lower compression ratio engines . I would suggest you to watch TH-cam videos for better information... You can find a lot there th-cam.com/play/PLFl907chpCa7R39l29VY5DygA8RgBQZBf.html

    It's a simple concept. At the hand level you move a relatively small piston for a long distance. At the wheel the large piston is moved over a shorter distance. Thus with the same pressure you multiply the force on the brakes. Mechanical advantage!

      Faster and bigger bikes have pistons on both sides, its called fixed caliper brakes. In the video, he explains the floating caliper brakes.

    • @Nightdare
      @Nightdare 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrSabic
      Floating (axial) calipers are mostly on the way out
      Because any axial play can be taken up by the pistons moving, since they can move independently (until full contact with the rotor) and the abundant use of (semi) floating rotors
      This also allows for a more simple and rigid mounting for the calipers
      (Floating) Single sided calipers are still used in budget bikes and rear brakes (and are often single piston)
      More expensive bikes where speed/weight is not a big factor, either get single disc/double sided calipers, or double discs/double sided calipers with smaller pistons
      And rear brakes because the rear wheel always has the tendency to lock up with too much braking power when the weight shifts forward, also, most rear discs aren't floating types
      ...hell, even my sister's plebian 50cc scooter has a (single) double sided caliper, and that thing is from 2003

    Cannot believe my 2022 VW still has drum brakes at the rear. But still it brakes extremely well. Do you get cars/bikes that have brake pistons on both sides of the disc ?

    About trucks, even so, in my city, there is a long 600m grade 20% incline, and many times semi truck's brakes gave in and they had accidents
    there is at least 1 truck every month that lose brakes or hit the concrete walls

    I always wondered, why did the drum brakes become the choice of breaks for so long in the first place? To me, Disk break mechanism seems like the simpler of the 2.
