I met Ernie Ladd and Animal from the Road Warriors at a sports card convention in the mid 90s when I was a kid. Ernie was huge and one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

Not only was he the best player on the men's basketball team, he was a pitcher/OF on the baseball team. And, as a senior, he ran a 4.5 second 40 yd dash for NFL scouts, and bench-pressed 450lbs. At 6'9" and about 300lb. Probably the best all around athlete in Grambling history. If his knees had held up, he may well have surpassed Reggie White as greatest defensive end in NFL history.

Im 66 now and was at the LC Civic Center every other weekend when Mid South was kicking. Ernie L knew some friends of my moms who all had finished from Grambling. Ladd came by there one night and i was terrified of him bc of his size. I was really young but still remember that... My mom has a pic of she and Ladd at GSU at this program honoring Coach Eddie Robinson
They set him up to be THE HEEL in the territory, and he just kinda half assed it. Didn't put the effort in like he should. To be fair tho.... Ernie probably had a high standard.

If I remember correctly, Bundy needed Grisly Smith (Jake Roberts dad) help to fight off a fan as well as one time taking forever to go down the stairs to help Ted Dibease who was being under siege by the fans. Both things were in Mid-South.
