- Recorded 15 years ago today - July 28th, 2006. "Up early to leave for the 400+km drive to the Öxnadalur valley half an hour shy of second city Akureyri in the middle of the north of Iceland. Everyone sleeps for the first half of the trip to make up for the short night we’ve had. We wake up for lunch in Kjartan’s hometown of Blönduós and eat at his recommended café just beyond the fence of his old high school. He is welcomed as a friend by the owner, who it turns out used to be his headmaster.
Once again the sky is azure and the sheer exhilaration of being outside and doing this amazing thing - a free tour of Iceland! - makes everyone (well, me at least) feel somewhat elated. We pick through the flatter marshland and straighter roads of the region around Varmahlíð much quicker than on previous days and arrive at the breathtaking site of Háls in Öxnadalur in good time. Thanks to the fine weather the stage is open to the air with no super-structure to interrupt the dramatic mountain backdrop." - John Best

This is the song that settled it for me to finally get on a plane in 2013 (I refused to fly for a number of years) and visit Iceland. I visited 3 times and actually bumped into Jonsi and Alex on Laugavegur in Reykjavik during our second trip in July 2014, he was wearing the same hat and jacket, what a thrill!!

Went to Iceland 7 years ago, was walking along a cliff in Arnarstapi on the Snæfellsnes peninsula while listening to this song. Sang the last part of the song with my heart out as I was alone. One of the best things I've done in my life! And now I miss Iceland :(

Jónsi seems determined to make this his best performance of Olsen Olsen ever. He poured his soul into it. I think he got what he wanted. His vocals strike deep strings in my heart.

Whenever I play this song, once or twice is too short. Feel like I was once born there or something, the cold icy mountains, fresh crisp cool air in my lungs. Just transports me to my favorite space, happy place. Would have moved a bit far off from the crowd, laid down on the green pasture and set my soul free with the music among the majestic mountains and the vast spectrum of sky. ;) Heaven on earth. Life is beautiful after all.

Hard to fathom it’s been 15 years. Like many others here, I was inspired to go to Iceland from the music and have been 4 times now. Magical place, full of wonder just like Sigur Ros.
