Yes!! Finally found it! Could never remember the name (Assault - so generic!) Man, I LOVED this game. Spent all my pocket money on it back in the day. Would love to find an original cabinet.
We used to line up at the AAFES at Fort Knox KY when I was in tank school in '89 and '90. Those were the good old days of coming off the gunnery range and seeing who was the best arcade gunner. Spent a ton of quarters in that game. Great times.
I wonder why this was never ported to the SNES? The scaling and rotation of objects aside, it could have replicated those backgrounds (and the sound effects) almost perfectly!
Absolutely one of my favorite games ever. Back in my freshman year in college, I played every day trying to finish it on a single quarter...and finally did. I have the PSX version and most of my old skill, but the analog controller doesn't quite have the right feel for me to match that feat today with my 20-year-older reflexes. Looks like you still have the touch...
When I was a kid we used to go to Telemark ski resort in Wisconsin and they had this game in their arcade room. I really loved playing it because of the dual joystick controls and because of the gameplay itself...so fun.
I spent most of my quarters at Aladdin's Castle playing this game, but haven't seen it anywhere since that place closed. I wish I could find any place that had a working cabinet, or someone who was selling one. A local place to me, Galloping Ghost, has 200+ restored 80's games and I'm going to demand that they find one of these and put it up! I've been trying for years to remember what this game was called, let alone see gameplay footage. THANK YOU!!
very interesting game, never would have thought about rolling the tank body or floating up into the air. These mechanics are underused in games these days.
I saw this in a Circle K one time and then again at the Boys and Girls Club. It was my favorite game when I was a kid, next to Street fighter II and Double Dragon and Street Smart.
It would be nice if there was a complete walkthrough for this game. Excellent game, a decade ahead of it's time. Too bad there are no other sequels to this wonderful IP.
Favorite arcade game. The only one I ever spent the time to get good at. How did you film this? Also, anyone know if there is a version online, sort of like the Internet Archives stash?
I wish someone would make this game for Xbox and the iPhone. The controllers for XBox are perfect for this. I loved this game as a kid.... if XBox doesn't come out with it some day soon I'm going to buy the actual machine.
You should try to stall until the very last second to kill the last big gun and end the round. If you make the last bullet hit the last gun on exactly 0 seconds, it will credit you for the full time that you started the round with. The bonus will be larger and you can wring even more points out of the game.
I see you're not playing the game at the factory default settings- you're at diffculty level B, where factory is C. You're getting bonus lives & more time that an average player. Having said that, that's some impressive game play!
Every Namco System II game has default factory settings at difficulty level B ( which is Normal difficulty), whereas level C is hard difficulty and can be set from service mode.
Hola alguien que me ayude porfavor Tengo esté jueguito en emulador en un ps 4 y creo que puedo disfrutarlo mucho pero tengo un problema no logró que avance en tanque solo gira y no avanza asía delante como lo hago porfavor

Me also .
I absolutely adored this game. Graphics & smooth movement were tip-top. One of Namco's best game games IMO.
Wow! Haven't seen, or heard, Assault since the many hours I played it in high school- I was hooked on this game- Very nostalgic! Thanks for sharing-

One of my favorite games! Great game, great sounds and music too. Namco rules!

I use to feel like such a bad ass playing this. Loved this game and it still looks as amazing as I remember

I played this game a ton back in the day but couldn't remember the name. Thanks for the video. It helped me figure it out.

I was driving by neighbor's house and this arcade game was on the sidewalk with a FREE sign on it…WTF. It's in my garage and works like a charm!
You lucky bastard :)))) cannot believe such a crazy luck !
Topesio66 I just sold it for $350.00 to a deserving fan on Craigslist.
Thank you. I loved playing this game and it was fun watching you play!

Strafing and jumping flash-like jumping is pretty cool for such an old top down run 'n gun/action game.

Used to love this game. Dropped a good portion of my teenage wages in it. :p
I played this all through college at the student union building cafeteria and I remember TLC blasting through the room out of a jukebox.
This was such an awesome game. I feel guilty that I had forgotten all about it.
Omg - I loved this game as a kid !!
Thanks for putting this up. Beautiful game.

my dad always liked this one
Severely underrated game...
Did assault ever have a different music track? I seem to remember it having a more bass beat to it.
Favorite arcade game. The only one I ever spent the time to get good at.

MAME is your friend here. Google it, thank me later...
I thought I had completely hallucinated this game.

@shawbros
I have been trying to find joysticks for this game for my MAME cabinet. I have not been able to find them.
.
Where did you buy them?
How did you filter the graphics? Is this even on MAME?
i love this game.
This game needed a SNES port.
Do a (tank) barrel roll!
