A beautiful song, and one of Gordon's best videos. So sad to learn of his passing. A great, great talent! R.I.P. Gordon Lightfoot. Your songs will live on forever!
A poet/songwriter and musician of the highest caliber, his music is some of the most powerful medicine for the soul you can find. Timeless indeed. Works best on Canadians of course..
When I first heard of him, I certainly didn't know (or care) where he was from. All I knew was that I was hearing poetry set to music that made my heart soar. And it still does. Thanks GL. Rock on!
They don,t make music like this anymore. Mr Lightfoot has blessed all of us around the world with his harmonies. God bless you Gordie and l say this from all your fans out there, recover from your ailments and please be with us a little a while longer as we all love you and treasure you as a legendary Canadian artist. Ty.
Ever since I was a child I've loved Gordon's music even though I did not know at the time what the lyrics ment.As I grew into a man I understand exactly what the lyrics meant 🙂I just came across this song and absolutely love it!! Thank you Mr.Lightfoot for the decades of beautiful meaningful music.God bless you sir.
Just stunning, one of my favourite songs. It haunts you, stays with you, once you hear it. I play it now with my ballad group in Dublin, with banjo, whistle, mandolin and guitar.
I love Gordon Lightfoot. I wish I could see him live, but always eludes me every time he comes around. I am a 22 year old music lover and Lightfoot is my favorite after the Stones and Cat Stevens. The big 3 as I call them :) Gotta get this CD!
A beautiful song, it reminds me of all of the amazing women I’ve had the privilege to have known in my life.....from my mother to my sister to my wife to my daughters-in-law and now my two grand daughters. It brings a smile to face and a tear to my eye.....
Saw Gordon many many times in concert at Massey Hall in Toronto when I worked there and always to a packed house. Even if all the best seats were gone and I had to buy a pole seat (obstructed view) I would still go. Such an amazing musical genius. My family had a cottage just outside of Orillia and I think that’s where my love for his music started, because Gordon is from Orillia and everywhere you went you would hear his music playing. It’s been years now since I’ve been to one of his concerts, getting married and moving out of town made it more difficult but I still love his music and listen to it all the time. My favourites are Summer Side of Life, Carefree Highway, The Circle Is Small, Song For A Winter’s Night, If You Could Read My Mind and Sundown but I really love them all.
this video and song is from 2004. 2 years earlier, I briefly met Gordon Lightfoot as we sat in the waiting room in McMaster Hospial in Hamilton, ontario. we both had same surgeon. exchanged a few smiles, but never spoke. he wore a baseball cap, but I still recognized him. When he was admitted in the hospital, no one was allowed down the hall where his room was.
I love this song and this video! It reminds me so much of my father. He has always been close to his Mom who now lives with my parents, I know he loves making her smile and helping her, then the way he looks at my mother still gets me. 28 years together and he still looks likes a star struck kid when he just stands and looks at her when she does not even know he is looking at her. Then the father he has been to me, my sister, and my two older brothers. I know he is close to my brothers and they have a ton in common with Dad, but it has always touched me how he has gone out of his way to do things with me and my sister that we liked just to spend time with us and be close to us. Without trying he is my inspiration. ~ Rachel Ann
I saw him in Melborne Florida in the mid 90s. He was just recovering from something and appeared very ill. His voice is better now than it was even in his 50s
saw him last year in Boston. His voice is withering for sure, to deny that would be foolish. He also forgot some of his own lyrics etc. It was still a great show, my friend and I must have been the youngest ones there for sure. haha
Envolks many emotions. At age 52... Gordon has been a life light. My second marriage is failing. Just a little "inspiration". If Gordon believes - then, so do I.
From the Album Harmony Stunning Beautiful Tune up there with If you could read my mind. A very much underplayed and underrated Melody World wide why I don't know. Keep going Gordon👍
That fact that my love for this man comes from my very soul,, was posted on social media. The post was about a 17 year old girl who heard The Last time I Saw, Her Face, and was never the same. The title was., Mr. Lightfoot, I wanted you to know...." I have a request ( if he hasn' given me enough with each song) there is a song that I cannot find anywhere, and I loved it very much. It was his only that I dared to try to play. I did somewhat well.. Beyond the Wild Misty Moutain." In tribute to this great man, that 17 year old wore a Canadian flag around her neck for ten years, until the chain broke, and I lost the flag. I feel that these words will disappear into cyber space, and no one will ever know. But, if anyone is listening, and knows where I can find this song, MY song, please tell me where, where.....
gord was a patient of mine. now the finger-picking of this song has me totally baffled. i have the ' official ' version but putting it all together......any help........
He's my inspiration gentleman. ❤ What a huge legacy. Thanks for you incredible music Mr. Lightfoot. R.I.P.

You were truly blessed.
I don't think Gordon Lightfoot's voice is withering at all . This song is just wonderful

Rest in peace, dear man.
It's an excellent song! If I had a lovely wife, this would be my dedication to her!
Jeffrey Baker I was told it was about his (now middle aged) daughter. Part of the beauty of the song as it leads to interpretations.

The song you are looking for is A Minor Ballad from 1967. You can find it on the The United Artists Collection CD.
