DK's sense of motion is almost super human! he can really drift almost anything on his first attempt. I remember teaching him the basics back in the day, makes me proud how far he has come today.
The stock suspension and short wheelbase on the NC makes it butt clenchingly scary to get to opposite lock. Especially through transitions. Atleast, this is my experience. Obviously, these guys are in a whole different league. Cheers to them! ^__^
The clutch on a stock miata is softer than you might think. If there is anything going to break before the low tolerances of the engine bearings and such, it would be that they clutch wears out. If it were a highly modified engine and multiplate clutch that had a huge lockup factor, then yes, especially on wet pavement where friction of tire on road is low and thus lends itself to lock up. But with stock- not likely. excellent question though!
First thing I ever tried to drift was my Dakota pickup, which I crashed after owning it for 2 weeks (it's fine, just a dent). 10 years later, I bought an NC, and again had some trouble with drifting, albeit without crashing since I'm better at choosing times and places now. No surprise, since I don't see myself as an amazing driver. Just for the laughs, I decided to take another swing at the Dakota. Easiest thing in the world. Impossible to lose control, at least compared to the NC. That was pretty eye-opening. When the Miata grabs traction and starts to straighten out, things happen FAST.
Wow two of the coolest things... Drifting and Miata. The new miata should of had the 232 horsepowered Renesis Rotary 13B but 166 horses is all this car really needs anyways. Although gas milage could have been better.
The key to the transition is to brake just before, watch when daisuke brakes between his early runs and 12th. Braking just after the first drift reduces the weight transfer the other way so the car doesn't spin itself out
Daisuke San did it cos he's a drifter and therefore a quick learner, if it was me, it might have taken all day, three sets of tires, front & rear bumpers, and maybe Id have made it once.
@valent1030 its heel/toe downshifting, its used to rev match the shifts so the car doesn't lurch when downshifting while braking the car at the same time
wow, seeing tsuchiya in that miata really shows how short he really is :P doesn't have anything to do with the video but it's funny to see how tall a person is without actually seeing them.
@Kazekage5th 1st gen actually have 115hp, 128hp and 131hp depending on whether it's the 1.6L 1.8L or OBD2 1.8L. The JDM 1st gens actually have even more because they had the sought after "squaretop intake mani" and performance exhaust headers and likely a different tune.
that other guy.. in that green suit with the red coat.. he's a drifter as well right? I thought i saw him drifting in a silvia or rx7 once if im right..
Is is just me, or did none of them press the clutch when they pulled the handbrake? Wouldn't that be bad for the engine? I wouldn't think it would do much but slow you down a bit if you don't clutch. Am I wrong?
Tran Antony My guess would be the stock E-brake doesnt have enough preassure to lock up rear tires so they use it instead like brakes to help with weight transfer inertia.
@goodkill1 " improve the front to back weight ratio." na1's hava a perfect 50/50. how do you improve that? i dont know about the newer ones. i do know my 93 though. and i wouldnt change a thing with it. only light mods and i can rip an occasional drift on dry pavement. and i mean light. coilovers, exhaust, and intake. plus 267,000 miles on it. that said, the 13b requires to much firewall cutting and other various fabrications. it wouldnt be a practical install. thats why they never did.
@chadhotchilipeppers I'd rather put the rotary in the miata, more hp and less weight(unless you use the 13-b turboII). overall the less weight would improve the front to back weight ratio.
i would think thats a hard car to drift because of its 50/50 weight distribution is meant to grip the corners and be in control. not out of control. but your not in control unless your out of control. . . YO DAWG ! ?
@Fruitypuddinpops the new miatas are harder in some cases ive tried both 1st gen miata has no power that's the only problem, in the rain i would rather be in a NA then a NC
@goodkill1 Nah, if i was going oldsckool miata it would be the NA. Lightest and easiest to mod/make faster. Even with a 2+ rotor engine. I was just saying for sales aspects the rotary should have been put into the newest mx-5. Probably wouldn't have increased sales much if at all but it would have been a way more fined tuned sports car out of the box.
i believe it's harder because the automakers make the car to maintain control on the road and as we all know drifting is on the line of control and out of control.
I always thinked (already something like 2-3 years already) that the drifters press clutch pedal when using hand brake to start drifting... Oh gosh, that looks terrific now for me! O_O
i dont know too much about drifting, but should`nt he step OFF the gass at 1:36, instead of stepping ON it? when he see that he wont make the drift.. (sorry for my english)
the entire point of drifting is to have the rear wheels go wide. you have to have wheel spin for this, hence mashing on the gas pedal. its even more essential considering the car. the mx-5 isn't putting down a whole lot of power.
@wise185 if your replace the engine with any engine including a 0 miles original miata engine from the same year and trim you would decrease the value of the car. personally I wouldn't buy a miata with a swapped 13b because it is someone's "toy" and people like to play with their toys so it would most likely have been abused.
so all of the drivers in japan wear race suits shoes n gloves every where they go i havent seen a video of a driver not wearing his suit beside ken nomura n kechi
He is known as the Drift king because he invented drifting. and is really good at it. He even drifted a stock Mr2. You drive an NC daily so of course you would be able to do it, Keiichi (Drift King) did it on his first time driving the car so STFU

you taught him? :O
@@treerexaudi thats the joke
I know xD @@bagfumbler
Yes he is the father of drifting :).
First attempt was decades ago, young one.
Seeing Daisuke struggle here makes me happy, and further justifies my need for coilovers 😁
You’ll have more grip on regular roads without them though. It’s hard to drift because there’s too much roll and roll=grip
The stock suspension and short wheelbase on the NC makes it butt clenchingly scary to get to opposite lock. Especially through transitions. Atleast, this is my experience. Obviously, these guys are in a whole different league. Cheers to them! ^__^
Agreed lol
Gotta love those smiling faces… great fun!
Thanks for the camera on the pedal box.
I knew about the car and I knew about the drift king but I didn’t know about this video. I love them both.

Is it me or he leaves the e-brake a bit pulled?

Lol I don't speak Japanese but Dori Dori definitely said "That was shit" at the first 180 spin
wow, seeing tsuchiya in that miata really shows how short he really is :P

Hey after 11 year
skills!
If you don't you risk locking the rear wheels. You can use this as a technique for initiating the drift though.
They didn't hit the clutch when they pulled the ebrake :o
Tran Antony My guess would be the stock E-brake doesnt have enough preassure to lock up rear tires so they use it instead like brakes to help with weight transfer inertia.

kazama just chillin why he there bro
@AkinaGod good enthusiasm
is it necessary to heel toe a stock miata?
that guy is the king!
@goodkill1 perfect time for the rotary to make a come back then :D
Even the pros have to practice! ;)
Came here 6 years later to say, generally you can't get the hang of something you haven't tried before.
@chadhotchilipeppers I'd rather put the rotary in the miata, more hp and less weight(unless you use the 13-b turboII). overall the less weight would improve the front to back weight ratio.
@JONRIEE so pretty mush the clutch just slips by itself when they pull the handbrake? makes sense
i would think thats a hard car to drift because of its 50/50 weight distribution is meant to grip the corners and be in control. not out of control. but your not in control unless your out of control. . . YO DAWG ! ?
i love miatas but what is the nc for?
maybe but race suits and shoes are usually fair comfy
@shadmonk what is LSD ?
Impressive dorifto
@brodell20 it uses a twin cam fuel injected engine ..
@Fruitypuddinpops the new miatas are harder in some cases ive tried both 1st gen miata has no power that's the only problem, in the rain i would rather be in a NA then a NC
@hardcoreaaron whats an asics ?
@DjSuperSou1 so its a clutch ??
@nikg72 the first gen has 115hp. The ones in this vid have 160 hp
@sk8endorphin I don't know much about NC (doesn't peak my interest) but my NB has a Torsen LSD
@goodkill1 Nah, if i was going oldsckool miata it would be the NA. Lightest and easiest to mod/make faster. Even with a 2+ rotor engine. I was just saying for sales aspects the rotary should have been put into the newest mx-5. @valent1030
that's a driving technique call heel & toe.....
i believe it's harder because the automakers make the car to maintain control on the road and as we all know drifting is on the line of control and out of control.
at 0:30 why he hit the brake and throtle together,i think he hit the clutch too...or it is for keep the RPM?
anyone can answer?
If they want a harder challence they can try to drift a stock 90-93 1.6, its reeeeally hard with such little horsepower and torque
Does the NC have an lsd?
Stock doesnt have one .
Hey what’s your name?
O.o to match up the rev difference between gears when downshifting? Yeah. Doesn't matter if the car is stock or modded.
I always thinked (already something like 2-3 years already) that the drifters press clutch pedal when using hand brake to start drifting... Oh gosh, that looks terrific now for me! O_O
No, I mean that he doesn't press the clutch while locking the rear wheels. Strange method.
Well, if there was one person who could drift in any car, it'd be Tsuchiya.
@gabriel1812 Did you read the whole conversation or just come in at the end and assume what you did?
i dont know too much about drifting, but should`nt he step OFF the gass at 1:36, instead of stepping ON it? when he see that he wont make the drift.. (sorry for my english)
Anyone know which year this model is?
xCarlosKidx either 06 or 07
@AkinaGod the new(post 2004?) miata has ugly rx8 fenders. personally i'd go with the 2001 miata with a custom 4 rotor ITB setup
@kennbe87 damnnnn 267k miles.. HOW GOOD DOES IT
@cashmere7777 the blue ones are asics :)
*2006+
本当サイド使わないと滑らせない。。。
@ricky66666
what is the function?
desuke is so hawt
@kensei96
something similar to the pillsbury doughboy when he gets his tummy poked. try pressing it a couple times in a row
no lsd???
@ps2beck whats does he say ?
@DjSuperSou1 oh thanks
I wanna see him drift that s15 they were talking about. . .
the entire point of drifting is to have the rear wheels go wide. you have to have wheel spin for this, hence mashing on the gas pedal. its even more essential considering the car. the mx-5 isn't putting down a whole lot of power.
@Reel785 Yea, thanks. That's what I said, read my comment. Plus, I own a miata myself.
@mbh427 get the facts right before you comment, mx5 has always been FR
@wise185 if your replace the engine with any engine including a 0 miles original miata engine from the same year and trim you would decrease the value of the car. personally I wouldn't buy a miata with a swapped 13b because it is someone's "toy" and people like to play with their toys so it would most likely have been abused.
Adamlar teknolojinin merkezi ama kullandıkları kamera 'sony handycam VHS' :D
Its a japanese car that side is the correct side. PERIOD.
can anybody tell me whats the brand of this shoes??
guzjtgukjg ukhgkugk Nike Jahova's SB gx 10
FWD is Front Wheel Drive...not FR.
Yeah it looks more complicated stock lol
dude thanks
15 year old video my gawd
so all of the drivers in japan wear race suits shoes n gloves every where they go i havent seen a video of a driver not wearing his suit beside ken nomura n kechi
it seems :)
but i think its Alpinestar not Puma
@zachisballin94 Since they invented drifting.... :)
How does a show get made with an English host, Japanese drivers, and zero subtitles?
@UltiMogr Ireland & Australia too.
he's use to having more steering lock, alot more
Bruuuuuhh 14 Years ago
I wish my wife would do to me what this man does to any car bw drives
*What's with the thumbnail!?😂*
@AkinaGod with all the negative misinformation out there about rotaries it would easily kill the miata market.
2020 anybody?
@mbh427 miatas are rw drive
1min 3sec, he throttled hard and kept the rotation 🤔😭
stock car means no mods done 2 it
Na, Nb and nc are difrent types ( generations)
he say fucking miata i love mi supra hahaha
nc is 2005+
Christopher Goneau 2006 -2015
The steering wheel is on the wrong side....
I drive the NC as a daily driver and i must say, they drift pretty easy... drift kings my ass!
thetruesurvive you dont belong here, go away
Allow me to show you the powers of shao lin !
Lol you are Trolling right?
He is known as the Drift king because he invented drifting. and is really good at it. He even drifted a stock Mr2.
You drive an NC daily so of course you would be able to do it, Keiichi (Drift King) did it on his first time driving the car so STFU
haha i love the japanese theyre fuckin crazy! lol
When an American says "nice 180" it does actually sound like "menstruating" if you allow it to sound like that in your mind lol!
i keep playing 0:57 over and over
maybe a click or two
😅😅
