How the bloody hell did Johnny Cage become one of the most well rounded characters in this franchise. I'm still shocked at how impressive this is

probably because so many folks are fed up with liu kang...maybe...& johnny cage got very rough treatment in the early games so they decided to switch it up.

Because the true chosen one aka Liu Kang is already died because of Raiden in MK9, so they need a new hero to replace him and Johnny with his daughter become the chosen one after both of them manage to beat Shinnok.

It's good writing on their part, because seeing how Johnny matured since MK9-MKX-MK11, it was very well written. This is why he is my favorite character because he saw how much he was an ass from the beginning.

See, the thing with growing up is that if you end up hating who you were, you never really grew up past that. You just ran away from it. In the end you can hate younger you for making stupid mistakes that in hindsight were obvious, but they never had hindsight while you do, and you'll probably still make mistakes like that. Seeing the older Johnny giving life and moral lessons to his younger self is quite satisfying. After his experience of the war between Netherrealm and Earthrealm, he has many of his friends died and some corrupted into Revenants and saw many lives lost. He has grown up from that and realizing that life is not all about spotlights, paparazzi and celebrity life, its about doing what is right and face reality to create a dream rather than living an not all true fantasy world. Seeing how much of an idiot and a jerk he was when he was young, he seeks an opportunity to correct his past mistakes by correcting his younger self. Truly, he has become a great man, fighter, hero, father, and all of the above. Even though he still keeps his ego dramatic. Still, he has my respect.
