    I agree that chopping is a very powerful move. And as others already said, often times you can´t work the tile anyways so the downside can be even smaller. But the decision to chop has more layers: Say you decide to chop a forest. Yes, you go down one production on that tile but you also spent one builder charge, which you could have used to build a mine. So in the worst case you might even go down two production instead of one.

      I really feel like this video only touched on half of the topics relevant. The cost of a builder, time to make the builder, Builder charge modifiers and whether your leaving your city without a source of production. Lastly, what u mentioned, that it is actually a minus -2 production per turn hence improving is superior after just 10 turns if the harvesting value is 30.

      there is one specific case where it's very good: you want to build a wonder you would get in a few turns. That means that even if the cost of the builder partly offsets the chop, you're still storing production toward that wonder in the builder and you really want to chop out very contested wonders.

    For me it's rather early game vs mid/late game push decision. I used to chop forests but later on it was tough to raise production in any way. Loosing 2-3 production (forest + possible lumber mills) per tile x tiles for such scenario x bonuses counted with % count of city's production, that really adds up. Greedy guys lose twice or more. Not mentioning it's not easy to make use of balance for time & production for builder vs profit from chopping.
    Lumber mills instead of chopping allow me to outperform others in mid/late game. Rather recommend that.
    I chop forests only when I want to utilize a tile for some purpose like a district and don't want to lose production stored in a forest on that tile.

      Why not start building those on the turn you started building the builder who is going to be chopping? By the time your builder is made, and also including those "dead" turns he takes to move around the chop sites = you spent many many turns getting there and could have just built the thing you are chopping that much earlier in the first place.

    I would never chop if forests were my only source of production, or if looking to increase appeal for Preserves or National Parks. Sometimes keeping bonus resources and aiming for the civics that increase those bonuses can make or break a city that's lacking food, production, or gold.

As many people pointed out already, the long term benefits of improvements greatly outweigh chopping in the early game. Who cares if you get 3 extra science per turn for like 10 turns at the beginning anyways. Means nothing in the later game when youre getting 200+ per turn.

    I would love a mod that calculates the production cost of 1 builder charge ( the chop) and adds that to the district cost and auto chops when you place it.
    I mean people are going to go there to build the district anyway, just chop it.
    really should be in the base game, districts auto chop and cost a little more production on tiles with features

  • @brownro214
    @brownro214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    You should also take into account what you are going to do with the tile. A flat grassland or plains tile can provide better yields with a lumber than a barren tile can, but a hill with a mine is better than a forested hill with a lumber mill. If you plan to put a district on a certain tile you definitely want to harvest the resource.

    False economy here. You need to build a builder first. Then when he's made, you need to move him to the various chop sites, burning several more "dead" turns. It's quite possible we are talking about 8 to 16 turns just waiting to get into a position to even chop. Much better to just start build the thing you planned to chop when you started the builder. There are of course exceptions, but much of the time chopping is bad.

    I mostly disagree. Chopping is rarely the better option. I only chop
    - if I want to build a district and the wood would be removed "for free" otherwise.
    - wood on hills - chop the wood first, build a mine second. Almost the only thing you can actually do on rainforest before you can build lumber camps in rainforest.
    - if I need something very urgently for specific reasons, like being under attack and in dire need of that unit, or in the process of building something that will get me over the threshold for avoiding a dark age or achieving a golden age.
    Most games take longer than 30 rounds, so that whole math portion could be a lot shorter. In most cases improving improves a lot in the long run - not even talking about stacking effects for things like linked farms which can give huge food outputs, or adjecency boni from lumber camps and mines.

  • @olivierboissiere7086
    @olivierboissiere7086 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What is not necessarily true. First, when you have some farms they are increasing one another when in close range to one another. The second point is if you had the official mod for industries I always add to my games because it is good to improve the game.

    I think you got it the other way around. In Civ 6 climate change produces all that fake stuff from hollywood clomate change movies. While in real life sea levels are slightly decreasing, icecaps are getting larger and carbon levels are normal :)

    Climate change matters in Civilization games more than it does in real life. Point to anything that happened in real life because of climate change.
    Other than that, excellent video as always.

      an increase in California forest fires. There’s one for ya. there are many more. No one cares about you’re in denial about climate change, it’s a tips video and he’s just cracking jokes. Stop taking everything so damn seriously

    NFTs arent as bad as youre making out m8. Sure, when EA jumps on the bandwagon it will be a cash grab.
    But what rational person would not want to own their in game items/skins etc, and be able to sell those things on an open market?
    Sure its not there yet, but thats the future.

    Wait...you actually think space is real? Bro. 🤣 Seriously? It was just misdirection nephew. Saying you landed on the moon, while showing a movie, isn't the same as actually landing on it....in a homeless tweaker shelter. Check out, "A Funny Thing Happened, on the Way to the Moon." Unlearn the lies.

      this comment is so moronic i can’t even begin to express how dumb it is He’s making jokes during a video about how to play a video game better. no one gives a shit that you don’t think we went to the moon and it’s irrelevant to a video like this. Save your moronic lectures for videos that are actually about the moon landing
