Believe it or not, the design of that handle mitigates recoil exceptionally well. Makes the gun roll back. They were designed to be shot with 1 hand.

I just love it when my firearm rolls back in my hand as I’m defending mine or my family’s lives.
I love how it’s purposefully designed to roll back in the hand with a round that’s very low felt recoil. Man I just love the muzzle flip, but hey bill Ruger thought it was great.
The same bill Ruger that said as long as he’s alive sturm ruger wouldn’t make an AR and participated in helping the 10 round maximum Clinton firearms bill.
I live when firearms are designed to make it harder to defend human life with a rather small caliber to begin with and boy do I love being betrayed by a man that started a firearm company by siding with the Dems. Yeaaaaahhh.

@@peterreily1490 You know not all firearms HAVE TO be optimized for self-defense and combat, right?
Just buy semi auto handgun, semi shotgun or a semi rifle (not necessarily of AR system) and either dress like commando/special forces or barricade your house against intruders (just to make it clear - I am totally 100% happy you can do this, what I say is not pejorative. In my country Self Defense is illegal and owning guns for self defense is only for politicians and special people. So I am glad you can do this in US. Sincerely).
And let people who just love guns for collecting or shooting targets have fun with their unoptimized modern single actions, lever actions (though hunters like them too), older bolt actions etc.
If you leave in a state where gun laws sucks then imagine there are people who live in a COUNTRIES where gun laws are 10 times worse and unlike you we cannot sacrifice everything, sell everything and move to another state if we dream about it/need it very bad.
We have to get immigration visa which has NO DIRECT/SURE way to obtain. You either need to marry US woman, or win a lottery or invest over 1 million dollar invested in US.
I know your life is difficult too, you have suffered many hard moments in life.
But in terms of gun rights - you were born and as you turned 15/21 your right to bear arms was AUTOMATICALLY given to you as US citizen.
In my country you are born and remain for your entire life BANNED from owning firearms. There are exceptions like for example sport shooting license that makes you temporary (as long as you own license) EXEPT from general default ban. It takes like 8-10 months to get license and steps and difficulty is EQUIVALENT OF S LEVEL SECURITY CLEARANCE IN US!
Therefore you can search 500 houses in my country and there will be no guns in them. Its a niche while you have a gun culture, gun enthusiast circles, many biiiig ranges and SOME GUN LOBBY. I know you think its shitty lobby. But it is.
If you don't believe me we can exchange - I want to live in your state with your citizen privilleges. You can come here and do a license that will take thousands of money and 10-12 so that you can have any gun of CALIBER UP TO .49 as long as you have the license. And you are obligated to store it in a safe overnight, if your house is attacked your son cannot use it (cause that will land you in jail for making it accessible to people who not supposed to have access), if it is stolen YOU got to jail (cause its your fault). If you forget to hide one round of ammunition into safe and go shopping you go to jail, if you use it in self defense you go to jail even if you are a clear victim, if you buy a gun and do not register it in 6 days personally you go to jail. But you can buy overpriced .45 or even .460 cal.
So wanna swap places? You can buy big caliber once you get license that will take you thousands and many months to do? Wanna swap with me? Cmon!

The gun is part of why you don't feel much kick. The handles of old-west style revolvers are designed to roll back in the hand, since they were supposed to be fired one handed.
Wait until you try a .45 colt in one of those. It's a transcendent experience.

Two years ago I got a Ruger GP100 357 Magnum in SS with the 4" barrel, 7-shot cylinder and the black rubber/wood insert grips. I fell in love with revolvers at that point. But I was getting range time in and the damn thing just stopped working. The hammer would not pull back, the cylinder would not release, the trigger was locked up tight. I was bewildered. The myth that revolvers were ultra reliable and indestructible was shattered. Took it to the shop I bought it from and their inhouse smith was also baffled, so they got an RMA and shipping label from Ruger and it went back to hospital it was born in. I thought "well...I won't see that thing for two months and it would be a pissing match about something I did/did not do and all the drama..." Not even close. Ruger fixed it, did a professional cleaning job and the dealer called me 4 days later saying it was ready to be picked up! WTF? He said that they replaced the hammer, pawl (whatever that is) the seer/sear (again, no clue) the cylinder ratchet and realigned the whole thing. 4 days! Shout out to Ruger. They stepped up to the plate and hit a grand slam with me. Talking to my gun guy at the shop I asked if there was something I could do/not do to prevent this from happening. He looked me straight in the eye and said "sometimes shit just happens. It's a mechanical device like anything else and that's that". The gunsmith said that he sees that issue with some models of S&W, but never with a Ruger. So, bottom line is...well, I am not sure what the bottom line is. Make what you will of this story. All I know is I am a Ruger guy for life now.

I love Ruger Sturm. Especially the revolvers. Had a security six 357 and black hawk 41 in my young days. Excellent handguns.
Ps aka hand pawl btw. It's a small lever inside frame behind cylinder, it's used to rotate the cylinder. Connects to hammer which of course is activated by trigger. I'm guessing yours bent or snapped inside and got locked in place.
Happened to me with my pietta 1851 sheriff. The small spring behind the hand pawl lever snapped, luckily for me it fell out without getting caught on any action. Had to aim gun at ground as spring no longer pushed prawl against cylinder, just to cock it at get it rotating.

    • @valuedhumanoid6574
      @valuedhumanoid6574 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@dickdastardly8150 Thanks for the info! You were exactly right. It broke according to the work order. I had a hell of a time getting the cylinder out just to remove the unused rounds. Like I said, locked up tight. I have been doing some research into internal revolver parts and your explanation of the pawl is bang on. It's what keeps everything in time and prevents backward rotation. I was under the false impression that revolvers were indestructible. They're much less likely to have an issue, but they're still mechanical devices and will fail occasionally. I was just happy it was not something I was doing/not doing that caused the breakage

Me too started with a S&W then went to a Ruger semi auto. Was the P89 and i could not believe how well that gun was made. I love a Beretta 92FS but somthing about the Ruger was so much more quality. Then went to GP100 because i like 357 better then 9mm even though you have way lets shots but if i need all them shots i am no longer in a situation that i can control. Going for long gun at that point and calling friends. Have a match champion gp100 now with the 4" will probably be my forever home defense bump in the night gun.

@@frostyy1983 I remember my friend had a p89 and my other friend had a p90, I had a p85 mk2. The most definitely did have a better trigger than the Beretta in both stages, not as long a pull. But my only problem with the p series as I sold mine for this reason. I called it snaggle puss as it got caught in every holster I owned. It was a tank of a pistol and for the price can't beat it. Just wasn't for me, they are great pistols though.
Antonio Banderas used 2 p90s in the desperado film and Ryan Gosling used a p89 in place beyond the pines.

    • @sixgunslingin
      @sixgunslingin ปีที่แล้ว

Those who are not familiar with revolvers do not realize that if you don't release the trigger all the way and cock the gun manually you can jam up the cylinder if you try to fire double action and don't release all the way you can lock up the cylinder. Not saying that is what happened to you but you but it is possible. You should thoroughly learn the manual of arms with any weapon you are firing. I am old enough that I went through the police academy with a revolver. That platform has its own nuances. A single action revolver also has a manual of arms you should become familiar with

I've noticed this as well. In my encyclopedias I can see further back weapons are far more intricate with many concepts and operation types. After the nineteen fifties it seems production became simple and similar at the same time. Now a days operations are pretty much all common, kinda boring if you ask me.
When I'm at gun store I always go to look for old weapons. Really don't like when they try to sale me something that looks like everything else on the market. Granted manufacturers have their own signature style ques but the feel and operation is all the same. I honestly have not been impressed with any new guns.

Switched to the Glock model 31 .357 SIG only because the mag held 15 rounds over 6 in the revolver. The magnum grips on the S&W are more controlling with 4" bbl. Great video!!

@@generationofbmx so the finish? I think factory defects are very possible. Yeah, your comment made me curious so I check mine too and it has some lines and swirls on the finish I never really payed attention to. After doing some research, its common with new guns and finishes with S&W.
It seems like it depends on the finish in the factory, and the lines and swirls happen with the brushed stainless finish. There's a matte and shiny finish too from what I've read. It seems it's kinda hard to get rid of as it's kinda scraped on metal, but I heard a lot of heavy polishing can help it.
Interesting stuff. I noticed the swirls of the finish, but my gun still shoots nice and everything. I think you got a new revolver, but the finish is probably that brushed finish. Hope you enjoy your revolver regardless though! 😅👍🏻

I recently purchased a Colt Python six inch .357 magnum and it is my absolutely favorite gun of all-time. I like it so much I am thinking about buying a 3 inch version and using it as a conceal carry. By the way in when sighting in the gun at 125 yards in a gun brace, it hit center mass and I was absolutely blown away.

I'm loving the cowboy guns videos! You need a good felt cowboy hat, much warmer, plus it's a major cowboy violation of hat etiquette to wear your straw hat in the winter lol. Also, HUGE GIANT MEGA props for wearing a good looking hat to begin with. It's hard to watch people who go buy some goofy truck stop cowboy hat whenever they make videos dealing with "cowboy" subject matter.

Great vid bro. The 125 gr semi jacketed HP is why the 357 is at the very top of the one shot stop charts. The average on all of the charts I've seen are between 96% and 98% one shot stop ratings. The SJHP goes in around heart deep and basically explodes. Anything that Elmer Keith had a in creating is always gonna be powerful and effective. Since the 357 was introduced to the public in 1935,there's no shortage of data to prove that it is the most effective self defense round available. One 357 round is more effective than 3 - 5 rounds of 9mm and less likely to cause legal problems if your DA is a libtard that uses the " excessive deadly force " argument to try and hang the victim for just defending their life. The reason that the recoil is so manageable is that the single action revolver is designed to roll in the hand and thus the felt recoil is far less than what you'll experience with its double action counterparts. Works the same in any caliber. I've shot 44 mags in both, and the single action is much more pleasant in the single action. I personally think that you should keep the mustache and grow a beard to match. I've always thought that a man looks better with some hair on his face. Most of my uncles have had beards or mustaches, so I've always been around " real " men since I was born. I've got a decent beard myself. I would have had a Billy Gibbons vibe going on, but last fall I decided to practice my fire making skills without a lighter or matches and ended up burning most of my beard off. It's not as easy to start a fire in wet conditions as people make it seem on TV or TH-cam. If you think that you might ever need to learn such skills or just want to learn, practice, practice, practice! It could save your life someday. We never know what the next 5 minutes will bring, let alone the next few years. Try the 44 mag or 45 Colt in the Cowboy series. You'll probably not find any 38-40 ,44-40 ect anymore. Those are actually the Real Cowboy rounds that were what the majority of most people used back then. The 45 Colt was originally a military round, not what the average person used. TV and the movies are what started that misconception. Do a little research and you'll be surprised at the range of now obsolete calibers that were in common use in the mid to late 1800s and even in the early 1900s. Keep up the great videos and stay safe and free 🙏

44-40’s are making a come back. Mostly due to SASS. But not that hard to find these days. Obviously not as easy as the popular modern caliber. But if you have a store nearby that supports the Cowboy Action crowd they will have 44-40.

I just watched this video again right after the 45colt and when you tested the 357 on the ballistics dummy you said the bullet expanded and didn't over penetrate. Well overpenetrate it didn't but it didn't expand properly it fragmented upon contact! And damn did it! Not bad for the two legged foe, that's what I would prefer it do, but no good for hunting...
