    David it’s 2024 and this video saved my sanity! Came home to a beeping refrigerator that would not stop. Took about 30 minutes to find this vid but thank you for posting this.

      Wow. This video is still benefiting people out there. Our compressor eventually died so we said goodbye to the fridge. Unfortunately I hear that the newer fridges have even shorter lifespans.

    Thank you! Took less than 2 mins to change after watching your vid! I was also recommended by a handyman to make sure I turn off power to the fridge before doing it, as an FYI for anyone else looking to do this in the future.

      Fully agree with your reminder for two reasons…. 1. Safety and 2. Prevents damaging the new part.

    Thank you!!! Same issue here…I figured there was a cold solder joint or trace somewhere on the board. So I removed it from the plastic panel and hit both sides with a heat gun. And it worked. (You can use a hair dryer instead.) Careful if you go the heat gun method. We’ll see how long this lasts for.

      I did have good luck for about 2 weeks after I heated the PC panel. Then it came back. So I replaced it. Was around $270 for me. Also the water dispenser froze up and waited 3 days for that to thaw out.

    This helped, even though my fridge wasn't exactly the same.
    On mine, there were small circular holes with flat pins holding the display in. I just pushed up those pins up through the holes with a screwdriver and the panel came right off. Thank you!

      @@cindycastora249 No. I think it took like 20-30 minutes for it to be like normal.
      P.S. It didn't fix my fridge so I had the back motherboard changed as well and now it's working fine.

    Your 2 minute video just saved me $800, and you seem to be the only guy on the web with the same refrigerator as me. The paddle was broken on mine and we called Sears. This criminal said it was part of the entire unit and it had to be replaced. $600 plus $200 labor, what a crook! Thank you so much!!

    How can I find this part - GE WR13X10551 Asm Cover Dispenser. Refrigerator model PFSS6PKWBSS. They don't make it anymore. Is there some off market place I can buy it or a substitute part? How can GE make a $2K refrigerator then just stop making parts for it. Please help...

      On my refrigerator I push the “Adjust Freezer” button once and -2 will show. Press it again and -4 will show, then -6, then -8. That is as low as it will go. You can set it as high as +8 with this process.

    Did this solve the problem of the panel cycling and beeping? I had this problem starting over 2.5 years ago but then it stopped for 2 years and now its doing it again. I don't want to spend the money on a new panel if that isn't really the problem?

    I am glad I saved the one I replaced. Yesterday I swapped the face plate of my old one for the face plate of the one on the fridge. One of the push button spots cracked. I had to remove the control panel from the fridge, remove a few screws, swap the face plate. It’s all back to normal now.

    I have model # GFE28H6HBBB GE refrigerator. On the display panel, the freezer and fridge do not light up when touching or allow me to set the temp. The door alarm and lock is not working or lighting up either. The words water, crushed, cubed are not lighting up either. They do work when pressed. The F or C and set temp and the word are and do not go off. I unplugged it for 2 to 3 minutes. With no change. I pressed the lock and light buttons and it shut everything off. I repeated this and the same problem continued. What do you think the problem is?

    My GE Profile has ultimately failed after 13 years of operation and it is not worth repairing. I learned that this machine was made by Samsung and many have suffered reliability problems. Samsung refrigerators have a poor reputation. So I am thankful for the years I got out of it. All our food is in a 35 year old fridge while we wait for a new fridge to arrive! I took the control panel for the water and ice dispenser off the dead fridge. Comment to this post if you are having difficulty sourcing a replacement because mine is available.

    Hi David. Thanks so much for providing this video. I have the same fridge with the same problem. I followed your video but can't get the old control panel off. Using a small screwdriver, in what direction do I need to push on the tab inside the square hole to get the control panel to come loose on the lower right side?

    • @davidmacmaster9525
      @davidmacmaster9525  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I pushed the small scrwewdriver just slightly to the right in the square hole (as your are facing the panel) and at the same time pulled the lower right corner out, just enough to get the lower right corner free.

      Took me a couple of careful viewings, and finally got the lower right clip. The rest was stubborn but eventually the whole think violently popped off. Ordered the part (broken lever) and wont snap panel back in place until the part is put in for fear if breaking it on next try. I suspect a proper tech tool would also allow top right clip access from that hole.

  • @rchavez4ADMG
    @rchavez4ADMG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the pointer on the small square hole! I have the EXACT same problem and will give it a shot... I fail to understand why GE decided to use a plastic membrane-type panel. This type of larger fridge is typically in a household with 5+ people. In my case, it's a family of 6 with teenagers and friends coming and going - so thing got a LOT of use. As noted by Joe B. the button plastic membrane eventually cracked and started creating a false contact, yielding the random selection/beeping. For a "GE Profile" I would have expected better quality, but I guess they assume that after 5+ years you should be buying a new one? (a service tech would probably charge $500+ to fix this problem).

    • @rchavez4ADMG
      @rchavez4ADMG 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just got done replacing it... took about 10-15 min while I figured out the right angle to put the small screwdriver in to properly release the clip as shown in the video. Once I had that, the rest popped out fairly easily. Thanks again for the video!
