I have been looking for Harry Sullivan at the conventions, I didn't realise he had died. Next to the Doctor he was my all time favourite character alongside the Brigadier.
Agreed. HARRY SULLIVAN IS AN IMBECILE!!! Meant in the nicest possible way of course. Tom, Lis, and Ian were the best team ever in my opinion. They were all very adult and didn't dumb down for the kids
Many years ago I received a hand written message on a 'bbc' autograph photo from him. A very warm man and in many respects very underrated. I have read Ian's Dr Who novels, and can say they rate as good as any of them. RIP Ian.
Tom Baker, Elisabeth Sladen, and Ian Marter ... The Doctor Who "Dream Team!" ❤️ We will NEVER see the likes of them again! So sad that Ian is no longer with us, and like many fans, I was devastated when our beloved "Sarah Jane" died! 😭❤️
Loved Ian. He was my favourite companion. I always wondered why he didn't stay for longer? The chemistry worked so well. Very sad that he couldn't get a job after Dr Who in acting.
Supposedly he was only there with Sarah and the Doctor to serve as a ‘man of action’. As Tom proved more than capable of being a useful asset for all character formulas (other than the witty and helpful young woman), Ian’s role was filled.
How awful, for a person to die on their birthday, a day that is supposed to be happy? ... Harry Sullivan was a wonderful character, and the chemistry between the three of them, was a joy to behold! ... Fortunately, Ian Marter will go on to delight fans old and new for many years to come! God Bless him! ❤️
I loved the Harry character and I was really sorry when he left Doctor Who in the android invasion and never came back I nearly met Ian Marter at a convention in 1986 but he had to drop out of the schedule and sadly Ian Marter died shortly after and he was IMO both awesome as an actor and as a writer I have a hunch if Jon Pertwee had stayed on as the Doctor beyond season 11 and had been the Doctor for seasons 12 and 13 then Harry would not have appeared as a companion is my belief
wonderful fellow, got to meet him briefly at a sci fi convention in Philadelphia back in the 80s this is especially nostalgic because my father worked for WHYY channel 12 in Philadelphia for many years
I think if Jon Pertwee had been the Doctor for another season or 2 it is possible Ian Marter Harry might never have been in Dr Who and also it would have been a big shame in billions of ways and Harry was an awesome companion a shame he did not stay longer.

He wrote to me in 1984..he said doing the books where episodes were missing were very difficult..he love the reruns too he enclosed a signed photo
A rare find. I loved Harry, Sarah and the Dr together. Lovely trio. Wished they had been together for longer. Thanks.

a brilliant trio
They were my intro to the show

Never noticed before but he looks like Patrick MacNee's son.
Good guy, Ian.
You know, sometimes, just sometimes, the YT algorithms throw up some real hidden gems.❤️
Also, at time of viewing, there’s 1 dislike on this video...who is that dick!?

He seems like a very nice bright man, not an imbecile at all.
Early days of the conventions. I'm glad Ian got to enjoy the adoration of American Whovians in person.
"I say!", as Harry Sullivan would have said.
Really nice to know there's some interview footage of him out there since we can't have him for DVD extras.
He died on his birthday. Very sad. So young.

Good interview. It's a shame that he died so young.
Thanks for uploading this, I'd never seen it before 👍
Harry and Sarah were the best dr who assistants ever

It's a shame he didn't live to do some Big Finish Audio Dramas with Harry in them.

Yeah he looks like a stoner. Great to see the lovely Ian Marter. I never knew he wrote the novel of Splash
Ian Marter always reminded me of Patrick Macnee. It's a shame Ian Marter is no longer around.

Ha. Just posted the same. I'm the latest of all !
Splash came out in 1984 so presumably that's the year this interview was recorded.
nice dude. RIP
informative interview.
so sad. Lovely hearing about how he, tom and liz messed about in the scarf. R.I.P.
Great bloke!
dear old ian...i always say he is a gorgous lookalike for Patrick Mcnee
You know, I'd never noticed that before but you are absolutely right!
Very good observation. Think I've subconsciously thought that, but thanks for bringing it to the surface.
Imagine what acting wise he would have been doing today..could easily see him in the movies or leading parts in plays
And Voicing Harry Sullivan again in Big Finish.
Poor Ian Marter...it would have been wonderful to see him and Sarah get together one day!
You're gross.
Harry Sullivan and the Brigadier. Good times
He died on his birthday 28th October 1986
God bless him. Such a gentleman. So sad to die so young. And how talented to be an actor AND a writer. He seems so humble. What a lovely quality x
Like Shakespeare (not 1986 ;))

Love TV12's logo with pentagram... was that agreed by committee?
