    It's 2023, there's absolutely no reason why headset mics should sound like this still. It's like we've been an inch of advancements in the past 20 years for headset quality.

      Corsair HS80 is basically the pinnacle. Sounds like a $100 standalone mic. No reason other headsets can't sound that good! (only downside is that it picks up background noise, and noise isolation is a common reason that other mics sound awful.)

      The $40 Roccat Elo X sounds better than this granted it's a wired headset but the Elo Air uses the same mic. Then again this is Alienware we're talking about...

      Especially since you can buy a $2 mic capsule, plug it into an audio input, and have sound quality 1000x better than this junk. It's not even expensive to have a decent mic.

      Dolby Surround, Hi-Res, Audiophile, Professional...
      All of them are lies to push up the price.
      Surround sound: Open back & angled drivers are best for this. Sennheiser HD 560S is a very good budget headphone for surround sound. Endgame is Sennheiser HD 800S.
      Hi-Res: 16-bit 44.1 kHz is more than enough. Even blind tests shows people can't distinguish between 256 Kbps AAC and thousands of Kbps Hi-Res.
      Audiophile: Since audiophiles obsessed with expensive products and their mindset is "there isn't any bad headphone, they're just colouring music on different way" just put a audiophile word on headphone's description and make it expensive they will buy it.
      Professional: Musics are produced on speakers that have flat frequency response. Headphones have frequency response variations between users due to pinna difference. Also I've seen that lots of "professional" grade headphones has very bad frequency response measurements.

      It is dreadful, but I'd have been interested to see what the settings were in Windows. It's probably registering as a separate USB microphone, so there'll be windows sound device manager settings (like bit rate, sampling rate). I got a USB microphone once that defaulted to a "radio" sampling rate, it sounded like ass, but then at a higher sampling rate it sounded very good. I suspect this microphone will sound awful at any configuration, but maybe it can sound better than in the video.

      @@crosscroissant5478 I honestly never have battery life problems but then again I always have the cable plugged in when I leave my desk and I have had the headset for over 2 years now. The ONLY issue I have had which I have seen other people have is that the earcups fall apart easily as its just a piece of plastic with foam on one side and fabric wrapped around the foam that is double sided taped to the back of the plastic piece and that glue wears down easily exposing the foam for me it has only happened to the right earcup but it has also happened to my younger brother's headset too and after googling and finding out how to easily remove the earcups which just twist off I got some superglue and tried to glue the fabric back to plastic it was a little messy and is hard to notice but not a big problem especially if they can fix this minor flaw. I really like the headset for the earcup shape too since it is an unusual shape which goes well with the shapes of ears and feels comfortable I went from using the Corsair Void to the Corsair HS80 and I chose this because of the earcup shape being similar to the void which I really liked and after hearing the OG Hardware Canucks review on it also I got mine on a Black Friday sale back then and I paid £90 for it and it sells for £150-£160 here in the UK

    • @MasonzeroDigitalWorks

      Same here, the mic blows my mind. Only downside is that the mic picks up everything in the background. Was hoping it'd be a solution to letting my wife and I each be on a different Discord call while gaming in the same room. Her HS60 blocks pretty much all background noise (including my voice when I'm in the same room) at the cost of lower overall mic sound quality. Unfortunately, no reviewers talk about how headsets perform in a noisy environment which sucks because a lot of people play games and chat with other people in their house or room. I might not have purchased it if I knew that, but I do still love the headset for use in more ideal quiet scenarios.

    • @Kevinskanaal
      @Kevinskanaal ปีที่แล้ว

      To be honest, get a Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro (80 Ohm's is my pick but if you want to power it through your phone as well get the 32 Ohm version). Cannot beat a cable for audio. If the mic is a must get a 30 dollar usb condenser mic (usually has a stand with it and audio quality is going to be 100x better than any headset). That way you have a great sounding pair of headphones and a decent sounding mic for around 130-150 dollars, which is less than the HS80 is over here in the Netherlands!

    Hey bud, the Dual mode refers to that "chat slider" that you mentioned not understanding. The dongle transmits two signals to the headset and plays both of them at the same time. When you look in your audio devices you'll see two alienware audio devices, one will be marked "chat". That dongle counts as both of them at the same time. You should select the normal one for game and PC sounds and select the Chat device for your discord or other comm applications. The slider you were showing allows you to choose the volume of game VS Chat at any time with a dimmer dial. This is my absolute favorite feature from my AW988 that I will not buy another headset that does not feature this. If you're playing Tark and your team died but they won't shut up so you can focus, you can slide that dial all the way toward game to effectively mute them on the fly, or just dial them down a little to hear them less than the game. Vice versa, if your game volume is getting too loud but you don't want to turn your chat down, you can slide toward the chat and effectively lower your game volume or mute it. To confirm this is the dial that you refer to as the "chat mix" at 5:20. It took me a while to get how to use it down on my current headset but it's an absolutely irreplaceable feature for me now, especially playing a lot of competitive team games.

    • @JustinAllegree
      @JustinAllegree ปีที่แล้ว

      Also, if you're pro gaming it's a given you should get a standalone mic for your desk and never use a headset mic anyway. Although you were spot on with that corsair mic, that did sound incredible.

    • @TheBigPineappL
      @TheBigPineappL ปีที่แล้ว

      Dude, my AW988 is my favorite thing! I'm terrified for when it breaks because NOTHING I have researched seems to come close. I got this 720H and returned it within days. My biggest deal breakers were 1) The volume knob on the headset controls the volume on WINDOWS for BOTH the chat and game devices. This is infuriating because my AW988 does NOT do this, which allows me to set the Chat device in windows to 100% and my Game audio device at a different %, then fine tune with the balance with the chat mix wheel. The volume knob then bring up the volumes proportionally without screwing up the levels in windows. 2) The 3.5mm DISABLES the wireless connectivity. WTF?! Right now, my 988 let's me connect to my PC and use an AUX cable to connect to my xbox controller, allowing me to use Discord through my PC and multitask while Gaming on Console and still hearing all my gameplay. Who TF at Dell/Alienware thought it was a good idea to take AWAY features?
      It seems so many headsets don't have this amazing Game/Chat mix, and those that do seem to be pushing their proprietary software (i.e Sonar for Steelseries, iCue for Corsair) instead of installing windows devices drivers like the AW988. What are we gonna do once our babies break?! You're the only other person I've found that likes the same features of the 988. What do you plan on doing once it busts? Help! LOL

      @@TheBigPineappL one of their two new models has the chat slider too, but I think we're another generation away from their next great one like the aw988. after having a dedicated microphone and headphones ill never go back to an integrated gaming headset again. i was just curious because of how odd these looked. i thought maybe the black strips on the front of the earcups were like microphone arrays or something, then i saw the crappy little boom mic. after watching the whole video, i can say these headphones are exactly what i would have expected from alienware... strange design choices, weird controls, too expensive, too few features... basically not worth it

    This headset is a such failure on Alienware's part in too many ways to justify that price. It is also unacceptable that someone genuinely thought that mic quality was acceptable by today's standards -- let alone the whole issue of using an in-line mic when wired. Come on Alienware, you're making a fool of yourself with this one.

      Keep in mind that Alienware is basically rebranded Dell these days. I paid $1600 for an Aurora 7500 in the early 2000's, and the only things that made it "special" were the after market, tacked on case plastics, and the custom drivers for the GPU. I wondered why they always told people to download their Hive drivers so I installed a normal Nvidia driver, and as a result I instantly lost noticeable performance. Then I realized they were using customized Overdriven drivers to fake performance.
      Not to mention, a week after my year warrantee the motherboard crapped out. They refused to replace the board unless I sent them the full PC with both to, and from shipping at my own cost, paid for the part, AND labor. They tried to turn a $100 problem into a $500 one. That was the last time I ever bought anything from them again.
