Is it ported/ shaved heads? I've heard the crank becomes the weak point if you go beyond modding the pipe and intake on these. Also, I noticed the Welch plug behind the idle fuel screw on those carbs is siliconed over. Very likely someone removed the plug to drill out one of the small holes to enrich the mid-range for that pipe. If I remember correctly PSI recommended drilling the rearmost hole out with a number 56 number drill. I did this to a pair of carbs this winter and am pleased with the results. Good luck with those crank bearings. They are a bit difficult but doable.
I have the exact same bottom end problem on my 1991 Phazer 2, what did you end up doing to fix it? Seems I can find individual parts only from Yamaha but no crank assembly's are being made anymore.
Other than the fact your lighting is poor, this is one of the best resurrection videos I’ve seen on this fantastic engine. I especially enjoyed the carb section but oh….. I wish you had a four foot led light just overhead!
I just got one been sitting a while but in a barn from a old farmer with only 3000 all original miles I have cleaned it up got it running went out few days later started it up now its running but bogging down so I'm going check for air leaks and clean carbs better but in the mean time I started hearing what I think is the same clunking. Do you have a video on how you fixed it. I parked it cuz I don't want to damage anything.
Trying to get mine going. Electric start won’t crank, just clicks on the solenoid by the battery. New solenoid?Pull start fires it but it won’t stay running without shooting carb cleaner in it.
Haha I had a phazer once was locked up solids got the top end free but the rods were frozen to the crank I soaked it for days never got it free had the motor out and had it soaking pulled the carbs and they looked worse than the set u said we’re the worst I had ever seen the pic for the float had rusted away plastic floats were just gone so hot rid of that one
I would see if there's any rusty water lines on the Crankshaft because it may have been sunk in a lake and the crank bearings will start to make noise if they got rusty
I have a question I’m about to buy a really clean phazer 2 from a friend and I’m looking for oil, do they have power valves or no because the Polaris blue oil is made for fan cooled non power valve motors and I don’t wanna buy it if it won’t work
A couple guys have videos floating around on here putting bigger lugs, looks like 1 3/8 is the max with minimal rubbing. Others have fitted thicker lugs after convincing the tunnel to share some space with the engine.
Change your driver's from 8 tooth to 7. You can get that track on. Gears it down a bit too Wich helps with he power. I'd use a better secondary or put a roller clutch on it. They have a tendency to not shift correctly in stock form
Found this one on the side of the road. Plus I always try to do my buying in the spring when theres little demand. But I see the same thing, it's pretty normal for people to want $1000 for these things

Wow, I've never seen a crank do that. Must be a broken crank pin? Have you ever tried degunking a carb with Pine-Sol? It works really well. I use it for all my carb cleans. Yeah I haven't gotten it torn apart but it must be broken or something froze in there and broke something. I've never tried that stuff but I'll give it a shot on my next set!

Following. I have a ‘91 Venture, same engine and same problem.

I'm using wife's TH-cam account just so ya know trying look up ways to fix this without damage
I have one that the baffles are broke in. Still works...

I had to put new brushes in my starter motor to make it work, I could put power directly to it and it wouldn't crank. Might be something to look at

They do not have power valves

Need to make a vid on starter replacement
Trying to get mine to run. Fuel pours out of the muffler when I try to pull start it. Fuel pump?
I would check the floats in the carbs first, sounds like they are stuck and just continually pouring fuel in
hey does any of your phazers leak oil when they sit
Yes, if the oil lines are older and hard they usually leak
@@adaminthemitten8940 ok cause we have one that leaks oil when it sits but not when its running they say the phazers do that
Call Japan n ask if they have a new set of carbs
the sound comes from the gears in the oil pump

I hope you threw those carbs in the trash and put a couple mikunis on it
