It looks the same as the last years 22 ultra. Maybe a little tight works here and there but to me it's the same and I'm pretty sure other people see it too.
This is what I call a proper review. Testing the thing in the real world, camera, battery life... not in a room talking about megapixels and megahertzs and benchmarks. Thumbs up Shane!

Thanks for this review, I just bought one aswell, my first smartphone ever, last 7 years i had no mobile, and i loved the freedom it gave me, i know sounds odd, but i really liked not being reachable 24/7 everywhere i go. Before that i had an Siemens MC60 from 2004 from my High School days, When the first generations of smartphones came out i kinda felt like "these things are still way to new, i probebly better wait a few generations before they get all the kinks out" and before i knew it, its 10 years later. The thing that suprised me the most when i did research on smartphones, was that they could have up to 100 or 200 Megapixels !!!, my old Siemens MC60 had a camera of 0.5 Megapixel... i kid you not. so this felt like an improvement of 200 to 400x better than what i had before, (my old sony digital camera only has 12.1 megapixels) so i was suprised these flat phones could already do 200 Megapixel, thats the main reason i went for this newer model, rather than an previous samsung generation. I felt so excited that i just bought one, that i thought lets look up for an video to see what i can expect, and what i should do first, thats how i found this video !!
Looks like it will be a worthy upgrade over my three-years old OnePlus 8 pro. Finally the battery performance seems to be promising on a Samsung flagship.
Great video. I think the S23 Ultra is what the S22 Ultra should have been. I'm probably going to trade in my 22 for the 23, and then keep it for the next 5 years. All of the small quality of life improvements, when taken together, seem to add up to a significantly better all around package.
Next year the whole foldable phones and expanding, sliding phones will take its mark whilst still holding 200 + additional more megapixel on other lenses that just one. It becomes more a killer but still not a DSLR killer
This was a phenomenal review with authentic real world comparisons of both the S23U vs the S22U pros and cons to each other. I'm currently using an S22U and said I was awaiting next year's arrival of the S24U, but the more reviews I watch, especially the ones focusing on attention to detail and indepth specs like yours...has created indecisiveness on my part. The lavender S23U in 512gb is calling my name and I'm considering the investment potential for a beautiful S23U device.

I wasn't going to upgrade from my S22 Ultra but so glad I did. I liked my S22 Ultra but I didn't love it like my Note 9. The battery is better on S23 Ultra. It's smoother & faster. The sound for stereo & call quality better. I also noticed better reception. Less glitches. It's what the S22 Ultra should of been. I'm still testing out the cameras but so far so good.

The s23 ultra is my first note and S series device at the same time. All I can say it makes my life easier. I got 1000 off with my carrier deal for $8 dollars a month it was a no brainer. The phone is just a beast Willam be payed off in a year. Im definitely not upgrading for at least 5 years.

Just upgraded on Google Fi to the S23 Ultra from my still perfectly good S20 Ultra. I think the S20 Ultra was and is a great phone. I'm guessing the new phone doesn't have a factory built in screen protector like it did on the S20? Loving the new green phone and awaiting delivery. For $427 to upgrade after trade-in it was a no-brainer. After 3 years I've only used only 62 GB of my 128GB storage and never used the SD card. So the new phone with 512GB I should be good.

They were so close. They should have committed and completely squared off the sides. Would have added a little weight and thickness but it will definitely give it a more secure and rugged feel. I hope they square it off more for the s24

The more I am using the phone the more I am loving the flatter sides. Going back to the S22 Ultra feels odd with its very rounded sidings. The flatter sidings feel way better in the hand.
I'll be upgrading to this from my 2018 Huawei. But what worries me is the screen and scratches (from being in my purse, in and out of pockets with zippers)... I understand physical screen protectors (which have saved my old phone numerous times) is a problem with that screen finger print sensor? But are the original screen/glass so good these days that they are enough on their own? I saw a one-year-later review of the S22 Ultra and it had gotten a few minor scratches. I don't want those.. 🙈 My close to 5-year-old Huawei has always had screen protectors on the screen AND extra on the camera lenses and has absolutely no scratches or marks.
What about actual call quality or loudness? Bluetooth & WiFi 6e /7 stability test? Is the 1Tb worth the extra $400 for big files ? Or is using an external USB-4 nVme OK?
Brilliant review. I have had my S10+ for 3 years, and live it. It still holds up as one of the best phones ever, but the Bixby and power buttons have fallen off. Time for an upgrade, and I will be getting this one over the s24, as they are eliminating the curved display. I will buy the S23 Ultra, and just keep the S10+ as a phone for home usage, like for streaming sports, or watching TH-cam.
I come from a 500GB S21 Ultra, I'm just exited about my pre order for the 1TB cream color S23 Ultra. I'm really big into emulators like the PS2, GameCube and Nintendo consoles. With double the storage and over 50% in CPU and over 30% GPU performance with the same and maybe better battery efficiency, I'm sold.

Fantastic comparison. I always avoid the ultras because I don't like big phones but I spend a lot of time taking pics in mountain backcountry and the s22 vanilla just doesn't produce the quality pictures I want and i always wish I had more zoom detail, so finally decided to go with the 23 ultra

Honestly, these upgrades over the last few years have been boring. I use to be a hard-core Note user and upgraded every year. The first time I didn't was with the Note 20 Ultra which I still use as my daily driver along side my Fold 3 and 4. There was a time when it was exciting to open a new phone every year because of the major changes but not any more. The only thing being upgraded now are minor changes to the camera every year. Yes, new chips too but can anyone really tell the difference in performance these days. I switched over to the Folds since they were something different, fresh, and new. I love my Folds, but even the changes with them now are incremental. Not much difference between the Fold 3 and 4. All these phones feel the same because the software experience is mostly the same. There really is no reason to upgrade every year or even every 2 years unless you can get a good deal, and even then it seems like a waste of money. Just my thoughts.
100% agree. These phone manufacturers know it’s true and they’re sweating. They know a slightly better camera and slightly faster processor aren’t convincing people to upgrade.

BEWARE Samsung owners or want to buy new ones, Samsung phones DO NOT have aptx higher end codecs, ONLY old 16 bits aptx. IF you are into sound or streaming with bluetooth headphones, it's bad. You can only use headphones that support LDAC or buy Samsung own headphones or earbuds to enjoy higher sound quality.

I just received my S23 ultra from samsung and I have to send it back because the sim tray doesn't work, it doesn't even recognise if it's open or closed, I spet the whole afternoon installing everything and when I finally installed the SIM, nothing ...
The colours are natural just everything else they put up the saturation in logos and icons the video screen is perfect colour tho All phones have a delta error of below 3 I hate apple because you can't make the phone how you want it

S23Ultra made the mistake of getting rid of the S22Ultra 40mpg selfie mode because I use that mode A LOT, and having only 12mpg selfie feels like junk to me. And for a lot of stock photo sites 12mpg mode is instant rejection. Until they return the 40mpg selfie, I will never get a Samsung again!
A hot take I know, but the burgundy on last year's S22U was by bar the best color in my opinion, that was my review unit I used for a month and sent back to Samsung and I ordered a black one myself which wasn't nearly as nice, as the silver camera sidings clashed with the black phone too much for my liking. So I think the black for the S23U will be perfectly fine since they have those camera cutouts color matched now, but those are the reasons I said what I said
From a note 20 it's a major upgrade but yea Ile probably get the s26 then another 3 years then the possibility of a Fold ultra 10 because I am waiting for a consumer model that is worth it

I am still using the note9. I have ordered my s23 ultra and can't wait to get it. For me it will be a huge upgrade from note 9 to s23.

Fantastic comparison. I always avoid the ultras because I don't like big phones but I spend a lot of time taking pics in mountain backcountry and the s22 vanilla just doesn't produce the quality pictures I want and i always wish I had more zoom detail, so finally decided to go with the 23 ultra

Honestly, these upgrades over the last few years have been boring. I use to be a hard-core Note user and upgraded every year. The first time I didn't was with the Note 20 Ultra which I still use as my daily driver along side my Fold 3 and 4. There was a time when it was exciting to open a new phone every year because of the major changes but not any more. The only thing being upgraded now are minor changes to the camera every year. Yes, new chips too but can anyone really tell the difference in performance these days. I switched over to the Folds since they were something different, fresh, and new. I love my Folds, but even the changes with them now are incremental. Not much difference between the Fold 3 and 4. All these phones feel the same because the software experience is mostly the same. There really is no reason to upgrade every year or even every 2 years unless you can get a good deal, and even then it seems like a waste of money. Just my thoughts.
100% agree. These phone manufacturers know it’s true and they’re sweating. They know a slightly better camera and slightly faster processor aren’t convincing people to upgrade.
Yep, coming in from a s10 plus, so I feel like I'm getting an upgrade. I usually plan to keep my phones 3-4 years

Not the best trade in value this year but after factoring in Samsung credits and bundling it with a discounted Galaxy Book Ultra, I'm pretty happy overall and understand I am paying a premium for a premium device

BEWARE Samsung owners or want to buy new ones, Samsung phones DO NOT have aptx higher end codecs, ONLY old 16 bits aptx. IF you are into sound or streaming with bluetooth headphones, it's bad. You can only use headphones that support LDAC or buy Samsung own headphones or earbuds to enjoy higher sound quality.

I just received my S23 ultra from samsung and I have to send it back because the sim tray doesn't work, it doesn't even recognise if it's open or closed, I spet the whole afternoon installing everything and when I finally installed the SIM, nothing ...
I don't like the unnatural colors on the 23.But I see the improved shots. It's not worth giving up my 22 for I don't think just yet.
The colours are natural just everything else they put up the saturation in logos and icons the video screen is perfect colour tho

This did not, as someone else mentioned, this is a "real world" review. Appreciate it. S23Ultra made the mistake of getting rid of the S22Ultra 40mpg selfie mode because I use that mode A LOT, and having only 12mpg selfie feels like junk to me. And for a lot of stock photo sites 12mpg mode is instant rejection. Until they return the 40mpg selfie, I will never get a Samsung again!

A step up from phantom black?? No freaking way
A hot take I know, but the burgundy on last year's S22U was by bar the best color in my opinion, that was my review unit I used for a month and sent back to Samsung and I ordered a black one myself which wasn't nearly as nice, as the silver camera sidings clashed with the black phone too much for my liking. So I think the black for the S23U will be perfectly fine since they have those camera cutouts color matched now, but those are the reasons I said what I said
