This is such a beautiful song to begin with… Add Apocalyptica to Simone’s incredible vocals and an otherworldly atmosphere is instantly created! Thanks Eric for another wonderful reaction 🤘🏻
I was at this concert, pretty much at the front row too. So one of those phone lights is mine.
The way Apocalyptica plays here reminds me of Sibelius, Smetana and contemporaries, classical music where strings depict misty forests and rivers running through the landscape.
yes, you're right, the guys from Apocalyptica took this song one step higher.
and one more thing about Simone. Every time at a concert she sings this song a little differently, but it always sounds beautiful and harmonious. she has a very good ear for music and she feels music very subtly, so her improvisations at concerts sound as if it was intended that way 😁 this is really class!
epica is my favirite band,great artists and preformers,i've been in four epica concert including the great evening of their 1000 show ,mayan.myrkur amd lacuna coil were some of the guest performing band on this day

One of their classic tracks....saw that live at Wiesbaden....it really grips everyone in the audiance....wonderful balad!

I'm the same way, when I listen to music I throw away all the technique I learned in the past at the conservatory and just let myself go. These are the moments when the phrase "I could die from happiness" makes real sense.

I went to a different concert of that tour last year. Saw two amazing bands perform, one of them actually my favourite band, and I still can't quite find the right words to describe the experience, despite being fluent in 4 languages. So I really appreciate your take on this, a lot of what you said had me thinking, yes, I agree with this completely. "Rivers" quickly became my favourite Epica song, and I prefer this version to the studio recording, because Apocalyptica just makes everything better. 🖤
Hi Eric, it’s been a while since I’ve visited your channel, but as you are reacting to my favorite band I have to respond.
I was at this concert, front row and center January of last year, it was the first time they did this song together and it was awesome to have witnessed it. Thanks for your reaction and have a good one. 🤘🤘🤘

Great reaction again. I love what you said about Simone’s vocals. Apocalyptica does create a darker atmosphere in this song. If you’re interested, check out the version of the Epica alive show. Celli are not there, but a small choir. Same song, different atmosphere. Both great. Ah yes, here are the horns 🤘

Thank You for such a great reaction and analysis. I have been in love with Simone's vocals for a number of years but always struggled to describe why and you nailed it. Your analogies and description resonated so hard with me. Rivers is such a fantastic song and there are so many great performances of this song, from the official music video to the live one shot in Chile to the fantastic acapella version from Omega Alive to this performance. It is a perfect vehicle to showcase Simone's vocals. Lyrics by Simone, Music by bassist Rob Van der Loo.

Awesome to see more Epica on the channel! I'd really love to see your thoughts on their song Universal Death Squad - it has a lyric video and is from my favorite Epica album, The Holographic Principle.
I would say classical style, which is not necessarily Opera. Love this live song, with Simone and the cellos of Apocalyptica. It really has a fluid sound for me with the steady strings and periodic fluttering/warbling sounds, like flowing water. Simone soars above it all and brings you down gently at the end.
All hail algorithmo. LOL! Such a beautiful song and performance.
Dude EPICA takes music to another world 🌎 AND U SHOULD LISTEN TO MORE OF THERE MUSIC THERE HEAVY GOTHIC PIANO DEATH METAL TONES AND U NEED TO HEAR THE REAL EPICA AND LISTEN TO KINGDOM OF HEAVEN 3 13 minute epic songs all the changes all the amazing drumming and about 25 more songs to go seen them 5 times I know how amazing they are !!!

This is an amazing song it does make a difference to have Apocalyptical in the performance. I really like "Mien Boot" feat. Nina Hagen with Apocalyptical. Eric I would say she has classical training that shows in all her performances.

13:09 "Operatic w/o being opera". Yup it's a head-dominant, modified classical voice. Floor does the same thing basically. Such a technique does away with the massive larynx drop and wide onset vibrato, which otherwise may irk people who are not fond of opera.
It allows for superb agility, better diction/pronunciation and if mixed up with a more chesty touch works wonders for telling a story through word painting. Vocalists that can boast years of classical training often struggle if they attempt to switch back to a more "contemporary" vocal style. So kudos to those who through superb natural talent and tons of hard work have managed to treat us to the very best of both worlds.
Other names that come to mind are Anneke van Giersbergen and Marcela Bovio. All of these ladies have set vocal versatility standards for melodic rock/metal way beyond what used to be the case. Only minor drawback I can think of is that personally, I'm no longer satisfied if a vocalist can only do one style in each & every song. Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘
