Don't let this ballad fool you, they are heavy as f (if they want to) from the same show "Code of Life" from 10. anniversary Retrospect show "Chasing the Dragon" aso aso basically you have 8 studio albums and countlets EP-s to catch up
Yes!!! 😄. Next deep rabbit hole. Best band next to Nightwish!!! And yes I have seen them both together last March 🤩🤩🤩 Next one "Code of Life" live at AFAS.
@@jonathanratliff4780 I like both very much. Better??? Do you like red wine or white wine? Beatles or Stones? You know what I mean 🙂. The sound of NW is as heavy as Epica. The difference is - the growling. If growling is metal for you, than you are right. 😊 Epica is about contrast (creating harmonies). Nightwish about harmonies. Epica has sometimes oriental influences, Nightwish keltic. And yes, thanks to the A.Olzen area NW has some more poppish songs too. The reason why they have been more successful than Epica. My point of view 🙂. Best regards!
We saw them in Nottingham few days after this show, EPICA truly are a next level band, btw their drummer Arien van Weesenbeek is amazing, you wait until you see them play a metal track, Arien's nickname is 'The Beast', and for good reason 🙃
I was at this show, so one of the lights was mine. It was an amazing show, feel free to check out other songs from this show, like Unleashed and Code of Life .. For Consign to Oblivion I would still recommend the version live at the Zenith (Paris). Also: Anything from their retrospect show (10th anniversary) is fire even if it's over 10 years old that one.
Epicalyptic.😊 Damn, Simone is awesome! The structure of this song very much reminds me of "Intrinsic" from way back in 2001. The first half purely orchestral, in the second half come doom metal and more powerful vocals. Even the lyrics are kind of in the same realm (not literally, but I guess you can call it introspective). The rhythm guitarist and leader of Epica Mark Jansen took part in writing both songs, so it's hardly a coincidence.
hahahaha stick the knife in why don't you. I brought a ticket for this show back in 2020 along with a bunch of other gigs... then the world collapsed. By the time my concert trip happened, this show had slid out of the window of my travel plans. So I gave my ticket to a Dutch friend. Was more than a little gutted. I'm more of a fan of Apocalyptica than Epica, but Epica really has some stunning songs. My personal fav Apocalyptica song is Rise (check out the official vid). They rereleased the song for the tour they did with Epica as Rise Again, with Simone singing. Both are great.
I was there. Spine tingling. However, I preferred this song at Tilburg(20 th anniversary concert) when Epica had a small choir on stage with them. Now THAT was moving. It brought tears to my eyes. Please check it out
Well you asked for it, yes I was there, front row and center. Epica is my favorite band and I go as often as I can ( few times a year) I won’t make any suggestion because I love all their music. Ariën van Weesenbeek is their drummer and imo one of the best drummers. But you can decide for yourself if you dive deeper into their music. There are lots of songs with a full orchestra and choir from their 10th anniversary concert in 2013. In fact they will do several concerts in the Netherlands and Mexico in 2024 with a full orchestra and choir. Also their livestream concert during COVID is amazing, it’s called Omega Alive. Have fun exploring. 🤘 Btw a lot of people will compare them with NightWish but that’s only because they put in the same genre, Symphonic Metal, but Epica is much more than that.
Here are a few requests that have more "aggressive" energy: 1. Design Your Universe (Retrospect live) 2. In All Conscience (ΩMEGA ALIVE) 3. Martyr Of The Free Word (Retrospect live) 4. The Essence Of Silence (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) 5. Unchain Utopia (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) 6. Victims Of Contingency - (ΩMEGA ALIVE) I know it's a lot, but it's Epica. You can't just pick one, they have a lot of amazing songs))
The no. 1 symphonic metal band in the world. Btw, she is a long time girlfriend from Floor from Nightwish. They also sang together. You will be informed, do not worry Joely.
Great reaction, such a great band!!! 😍😍😍 Saw them last year in Tilburg 013 at their 20th anniversary show... first there was Sahara Dust, the band from which Epica evolved, then came Epica itself. Simone did the singing for Sahara Dust as well... she stood on stage from 19.45 till 23.30 with only half an hour pause between the two bands... she sounded just as great at the end as at the beginning! In december 2024 they will have a special show again... they will be joined by a full orchestra and a choir!!! Got tickets right away! 😊😊🙂
Welcome to the wonderful world of Epica. They were formed in 2002 and this was from January 2023. There are four more songs from this show on YB. Unleashed, Code of Life, Beyond the Matrix and Consign to Oblivion. However, if you want to see Epica at the other end of their musical spectrum I recommend The Essence of Silence, official live video - heavy as f*%k!
@@joelyjamz If you react to Boyond The Matrix make shure to react to the Zenith version of 2017. Same as with Consign To Oblivion that version at the Zenith is superior in every way in my honest opinion. Even though the AFAS version is also very good. Just not as good as the Zenith one... That also gives you an opportunity to see Epica through the years and not just at this one recent concert at AFAS:)
Agree on the Essence of Silence video in Brussels! For the Consign to Oblivion and Beyond the Matrix I really do prefer a lot the older performances from 2017 at Zenith, Paris. That was pure magic what they did there..
Yep Epica is Epic ! Do : Epica - Sancta Terra (feat Floor Jansen) Live Retrospect show and form the same show, this will surprise you : EPICA - Stabat Mater Dolorosa w/Floor Jansen (Retrospect show). And because you like Epica you must do Ayreon, you will love it !
I love every member of Epica. Amazing energy live, watch them live when given the option for videos. Oh and one of my favourite drummers too… Ariën van Weesenbeek. Code of Life would be a good one to do next.
Hi UK Drummer, question / remark: If you like Floor (Nightwish) and Simone (Epica) Than I have something for you ! Check Ayreon !!! Begin with: Ayreon - The Day That The World Breaks Down - The Source (2017) song / composition 13min (sort) with 11 main singers also Floor and Simone ! After that Check Ayreon - Everybody Dies (Ayreon Universe) LIVE also with Floor ! I'm very, very, very sure you will like and love it ! And there much form Ayreon. It's Prog/ metal / rock of the highest level. all songs are a story line. So when you dive in not the order of the song ! If you want to see and hear the composer / creator, Arjen Anthony Lucassen then check the song: Ayreon - Garden of Emotions (Electric Castle Live And Other Tales) LIVE ! The first singer is Arjen ! If you want to see Marko (from Nightwish) Check Ayreon River of time (Universe). You Will LOVE it and want to see more and more......and more !
Not this show, different show on the same tour though, and another one later in the year. I will be seeing them with a full symphony orchestra in September :D
You should also see the video now other video's consignatie to oblivion live at zenit. Sancta terra live 10 uears aniversary, skeleton key video, and live at omega Kingdimof of haven part 3....to start with
For a drummer this song is perhaps not even remotely an example of what the drummer of Epica is capable of. This guy is one of the best and fastest metal drummers around. 'Rivers' is one of the few slow ballad songs Epica has ever done. They normally are MUCH more metal and fast. A must see/hear classic to start with is 'Consign to Oblivion" Live at the Zenith, Paris 2017. Please choose that version and not the more recent AFAS version. The Zentith is the superior one by far :)

For me far better in heavier metal than “poppish” NW. Simone has the purest of voices as well

‘Kingdom of Heaven part 3’ from the Omega Alive concert for another out of body experience.

Kingdom of Heaven part 3, amazing song.

EPICA - Unleashed (Live At The AFAS Live)

The featuring band is the orchestra, the band Epica is the singer, drumer, and guitarist/bassist.
Both are great bands

Dutch like Floor Jansen and even friends i think. Consign to oblivion next ;)
