Multi-level Parking Garage Automated System project
    • Worked with a team of six and designed a vertical parking structure, with two robotic arms to allow 360⁰ automated storage and retrieval of cars. Each parking spot had a designated mobile platform with a handle at the bottom. Cars are loaded on/off of these platforms and the arms place the platforms in parking spots.
    • Mechanically, a belt drive on each side was used to transport cars in and out of the system. These belt drives will have slots integrated in order for the platforms to be retrieved from/placed onto them. After the cars are transported into the system, the arm will retrieve the filled platform and the vertical track will begin its function. The vertical track will consist of a pulley system and counterweights to lift the arm up and down.
    • An Arduino was used to control the arm to move cars to their designated parking spots.
    • Micro switches were used to identify the different levels for the lift and provide feedback to the microcontroller to identify the arm's location.
    • Proximity sensors were used to detect when cars are at the main entrance to signal the HMI to display all of the necessary information for customers, as well as display how many spots are available. A proximity sensor on the arm will also be used to detect when a car is ready to be carried to a parking spot.
    • The completed system runs completely autonomously.
