Finally an interesting channel where the narrator has a calm way of conveying the subject. Thank you
“Spilling the Tea” installation is perfection!!
Absolutely love the way Ken shows off these old houses! ❤
Spilling tea is a unique design in this fabulous home
Diggin' the new Spring duds! These guys did an impeccable job decorating this house. Their love for the house shows.
Ken, I love all your videos, but the in-person tours are just so special! Hearing the current owners describe their position as ‘caretakers’ really moved me. You can tell they truly love the home.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
I love the "spilling the tea" art installation.
The tour was great by itself. Like other commenters, I thoroughly enjoyed the interview at the end as well as hearing what happened to the original owner. PS That line about just being caretakers for a house hopefully lasting centuries was a great cherry on top.
Glad you enjoyed the tour, cheers!
Glad to see the in-person tours resume-would be delighted to see more!
That was great Ken, I've missed these longer deep dives into a house. And PLEASE pass my thanks on to Ted and Justin for giving us this tour of their home. So nice to meet the actual people.
Ken, you do the best job of showing old houses of anyone. One of the main reasons is that you give a panoramic view of each room. You give a lot of facts about the house in a well organized manner without going on and on. Many others have the camera focused on themselves while they are talking forever and all we see is them. You are the best. Love your house tours.
Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed this tour. Cheers!
I absolutely 💯 agree
What a beautiful home. Love to see your tours again.
This was such a treat! We live nearby and make a point of driving the streets of St. Louis at least once a year and it just happened that today we took a turn on Grand just to look at all the beautiful homes. I love the way Ted and Justin said that they are just caretakers of the home for now. What a wonderful way to put it! Thank you so much for posting!
Such a lovely home. Very generous of the owners to open their home and share.
You are SO knowledgeable about architectural periods, details and history. Your presentations are simply awesome! THANKYOU !
Loved seeing the owners of this historic home. Knowing that it's in good hands of people who will take the upmost care of it is a wonderful thing! They are awesome!
A very beautiful home. The wood is lovingly taken care of.😊
Great job, Ken. My wife and I lived in St. Louis for almost 15 years and continue to hold a special part of our hearts for it. Expecially the historic areas.
Hi Ken, Mitchell here watching This House on TH-cam! I get so much out of your channel that I decided to become a supporter! You charge a flat once a month fee and do not charge per publication. I realize that not everyone can spare even $5 per month, but I am glad to do so.
Thank you for your channel, Ken! I even found out about the incredible Carolands mansion 30 minutes from my home in San Francisco and for that I am eternally grateful!
Carolands is an outstanding house museum! Thank you for becoming a This House Supporter!
@@ThisHouse You are very welcome and a very amazing man, Ken.
Yes, please continue to do in person shows
So great to meet the owners & to learn more about the history of this amazing home.
Thank you, all.
Still the BEST voice on TH-cam. I never stop appreciating your eloquent grasp of the English language. 🙏☺️ for all your efforts Ken
I love the old picture of the original parlor! I love photography, history and architecture... and who doesn't love a pocket door?
Hey Ken! I love these "real" house tours. You should do that more often if possible. For me it's seems the rooms are many but quite small in this massive house. Is it the cam or are they really quite small? Anyway, the house is stunning and you did a phantastic job with the narration. Love the calm accuracy.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the tour! The rooms are definitely larger feeling than the camera portrayed.
Thank you Ken, thank you Ted and Justin. Love the tour, and the house!
LOVED the kitchen ceiling, "spilling the tea". Beautiful home.
The current owners' taste notwithstanding, this is easily one of the top two most beautiful houses I've seen. Beaux Arts with emphasis on gorgeous woodwork has always been the way to my heart.
Thank you, I think. LOL
Stunning house Ken! Spilling the Tea is a fantastic use of colorful china as opposed to it sitting behind glass doors in a cabinet! Very enjoyable to meet Ted and Justin...please thank them for allowing us into their private lives to see this magnificent house!
Glad you enjoyed it!
This was fascinating. I would love to live in a historic house but they're kind of few and far between here in SA. I can just imagine that keeping up with the maintenance is quite an endeavor and you must have your heart in it.
These gorgeous gentlemen are the PERFECT owners for such a magnificent property. This house is blessed to have these lads as the owners.
☺️☺️☺️❤️
Really and truly original interiors and just a lovely home. Thank you so much mr Ken for offering such a georgious channel for all of us to enjoy.
Stain glass windows beyond beautiful
loved it. would love to learn more about these caretaker owners of historic homes - why they took it on, how they afford it, when they know it's time to move on. Looks like these fellas have done a lovely job maintaining this house at a high level.
I have met the owners and heard about the house...now I have enjoyed this tour. Thank you Justin & Ted. It is beautiful! If I lived closer, I would certainly be visiting these homes on the Compton Heights Home Tour.
Ken first I love your attention to detail and depth and second I would have to have a cocktail with Ted and Justin!
I love the tea cup art installation! Fantastic video Ken and crew!
Greetings from California, Señor Ken, your video is the first of it's kind I've ever seen. What a beautiful video!
You are great with your presentación! The best I declare! Thank you so much. I was soooo captivated through the entre video. Sara de Campos
Wonderful to see this!
So glad to see you are returning to the walk-through style again. You always point out amazing things that I would never notice. The interview was an added bonus! Thank you
Thank you so much! Cheers!
It is great to be able to see inside these historic homes! I just love stories about the owners! If walls could talk...🥰
Yes I like the in person house tours it’s good to see you instead of just hearing your voice. I really like the dining room, the first set of stairs and the beautiful stain glass windows.
gorgeous. it is not only grand but cozy at the same time.
Beautiful home. ❤
Awesome house!! Beautiful restoration & very interesting to hear the original owners history. Great tour!!
They did such an amazing job bringing this house back to its former glory, the love really shows in every detail. 🥰
This in person tour was incredible! I really loved the Judy Garland, Meet Me in St Louis, Friends of Dorothy, all in our family good feeling that I got from this fun and incredibly informative video! Thank you so much. Those that get to be in St Louis to visit these historic homes that are not house museums that are open to the public are going to have an incredible time!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Cheers!
@@ThisHouse You are unique, amazing and make videos about subjects in a way that no one else that I am aware of does!
The exterior appears recent in it's pristine condition. It is a solid structure, far more appealing than the Era's full Victorian.
Ted is truly charming. They made a worthy purchase.
I JUST ADORE THEM ALL...
How very fascinating-I have driven by the home on several occasions, but didn’t know the story. Thank you! I would love to see more of these in person tours!
Henry Jr. was Truly his mothers son....UGH.
Loved that stained glass window in the upstairs Jack and Jill bath.
I loved the tea cup art installation! Fabulous idea to make the ballroom into a master bedroom. House is gorgeous.
Loved the interview with the owners! Nice added touch to the house's history and current state.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Ken BRAVO I love the longer video's and house tours. Must do more Thank you
Cheers!
I love that St. Louis homes are getting shown and recognized
There is so much beauty in this city. Cheers!
A point about the rounded enclave. Rounded spaces are a great design concept, but they are extremely expensive to construct using wood or metal as in this case. Curved glass windows are also very difficult to create. Think about the difficulty of replacing a curved window pane if it broke! Very interesting space rounded or curved but big bucks to create.
This feels like a PBS special! I love it ❤
Of all the beautiful homes with fabulous furnishing this house appears incredibly warm and livable. Absolutely love the aesthetic and sense of whimsy. The tragic events that transpired do not tarnish the symmetry or beauty of this lovely exciting home. Thank you and your gracious hosts.
Wow 🤩 This house is gorgeous! And I love the kitchen and the spilling the tea art installation! I cannot even imagine living in a house like that. Thank you for the tour!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I am old! In my next life,I hope to own one of these grand ladies!
The wall colour of the parlour is so beautiful
I wrote that comment too early. Throughout the home the colours are stunning! Like a big Nana hug with the depth and richness. Beautiful work Justin and Todd.
Thank you Ken for sharing.
I can tell the upgrades this couple have brought to the house. Love love love the outdoor areas that they have created.
Thank you for the tour! I live in the suburbs of St. Louis and never knew about this beautiful home! Loved it❤
I just love This House tours and presentations! So much social and architectural history 🙂Love the unique "Spilling the Tea" artwork and the window in the Art Deco bathroom! Thank you, Ken, for taking us along on your This House journeys!
That window is glorious!
I’m always so happy when I find a new upload. Thank you Ken. Have a beautiful weekend 🙏☺️
Your camera work is BEAUTIFUL! I just wish we could spend more time in each room.
Great viewing this beautiful home and thanks to the two home owners for allowing us in, cheers..
I love seeing you and not just hearing your voice!
Wonderful tour, beautiful home! I loved the mix of preservation and personal design/modern art. Such personality and you can tell the owners love this house. The term "caretaker" was so adoring, I loved it. Thank you for the tour and to the owners for allowing us to see inside.
Loved the entire tour and meeting the owners. I was particularly taken with the art installation ("Spilling the Tea" ) in the breakfast room. So many questions on how everything was hung.
Ken, it's so nice to see you back again. Any in person tour you do is my favorite tour. As much as I liked the dining room in that house, I am a sucker for stair landings, and those did not disappoint.
Wonderful tour and presentation, Ken. Thank you for letting us meet Ted And Justin, who've done inspiring work saving this lovely house for future generations!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks so much. Quite enjoyable.
Of all the houses you have shown this is my favorite
Be still my heart I love this house. I’ve already texted my cousin in St Charles to see if she is going, I want her to FaceTime me while she is there.
@Ted & Justin …
thank you so much for sharing your home. It is so breathtaking. Most of all thank you for putting into words & capturing the essence of how I feel historic homes and places. Each of them is full of individual stories and that we are merely the caretakers that strive to leave things better than we found them.
*yes please continue the live tours, maybe even tour some of the sites already featured and open to tours.
Glad you enjoyed this tour! Cheers!
Beautiful!
LOVE this channel!
I've always loved the Gilded Age stuff and you do such a great job showing this type of Architecture that pretty much doesnt exist down here in Australia
More of these please!
Great Job Ken...Glad to see you personally touring and explaining these homes. The Trabert Mansion has been beautifully decorated and restored in the "Period Era!"
Thanks Ken for going back to St Louis, as a resident in the county currently, and lived in STL most of my life I know exactly where this house is at, I never knew about the 'wild' story behind it.. but I'm sure there's many stories in many houses / mansions here in the city and all over. Great video as always.
Very interesting. Thanks.
It's nice to see you as well as hear you!
Ken, thanks for another great video! I thoroughly enjoy all of your videos. They are, to me, the most entertaining well produced media available on TH-cam. I check daily excitedly to find new content from This House. I am an architectural historian and from a professional standpoint you do a magnificent job! Keep up the very good work. You should come do some videos in Louisiana. We have some fantastic architecture. Remember, there is much more to our great state than New Orleans.
More tours with Ken please! Love this! Thank you
I enjoy all the historical details Ken finds about the houses, and the people who live and lived in them. Great job!
I could easily live in one of these houses! Currently living in an 1878 ex boarding house in Houston's Old Sixth Ward. Philly has some incredible old house inventory.
A wonderful historic home Ken! I can't get over the ruthlessness of the wife and son. It's 2023 and I'm scandalized by this tale! 😱
This Episode was the most revealing yet.
Great video.
Beautiful house and beautifully maintained all those years. Wood paneling is such a nice look.
OOOhh! As much as i love your usual Mini Documentary style videos, tours like this are really what i look foreword to on your channel.
I love to see it, Keep up the great work!
Cheers!
I love your house tours Ken, and this one is fantabulous. So glad to see the owners taking such great care of a magnificent place. And kudos to the gentlemen for sharing their home and the stories connected with it.
Amazing House.. and How Cool to be able to sit with the owners - who have Amazing good taste, mixing the old and new - and making it work! St. Louis is truly the City of Homes.
Ken, it would be awesome if one day you did a series on what the different furniture styles are called and what their history is. Loving this channel. Thank you for your efforts to produce such excellent content 🙏☺️
Ken thank you for a wonderful and tasteful tour of a lovely property. The St Louis event on May 13 2023 sounds so fun and interesting. Big thanks to Ted and Justin for sharing their lovely property. The history (for the original owner) was so sad, but thanks so much for digging that up. LOVED this! That blue parlor was a beautiful sight to behold, and the maid's patio , were both were favorite features.
I’m so glad you enjoyed this your, cheers!
What a wonderful new way of introducing us to another gilded aged estate. Thank you for the interview at the end and for giving us the back story about what happened to the original owner. I thoroughly enjoyed this entire tour.
Glad you enjoyed it, cheers!
Very nice narrative, as always.
You are looking very dapper! I love that suit!
Great job! I really like this style of a personal tour of the house and then an interview with the owners about the history. I know you can't do this with buildings that no longer exist, but keep up the good work on existing buildings.
Interesting and thanks for the updated history of the house.
Our pleasure! Thanks for watching!
What a fantastic tour! These guys did a fantastic job of bringing this beautiful piece of history back to life! I found it fascinating that they came from Miami and felt drawn to this house. There could be a connection in their family tree, maybe an ancestor who knew the original family or just like they stated they are the caretakers of this house for future generations. That could also be why they were drawn here. Destiny works in mysterious ways! Thank goodness they saved this magnificent home!
Loved the research and interview with the couple who own this beautiful house!
