My grandfather was a carpenter and was fabulous at it and built everything you can imagine with wood when I was a child and I was his gopher and / helper. The woodwork in this house is amazing. And I am in love with that bubble jukebox you don't see them anymore. I would love to pick up the cat and dance my heart away to that bubble jukebox. I'm having a hard time deciding which room could be my favorite as I found something facinating about every one. Can I then simply say the whole house? Loved this! Seems St. Louis has really respected it's past history by not demolishing many of it's old houses. Kudos for every person who has taken the time & money to restoring these "diamonds in the rough". You can see how they have put in the hard work with their hearts and souls.

it is so nice to see a home from that time period so thoughtfully restored. To many times you see these old homes too modernized. Sometimes tearing out some or all of the old architecture. To me you buy a historic house because you appreciate those things.

This is my favorite episode that I’ve seen so far. Between the mansion, the new owner, the photos and renovations, your tour and all the details of every room addressed - well done on all counts. I’ve been a sub of yours since you first started your channel with 2nd Empire/Kaleb and Kim (that’s how I found your channel). I can see how you’re more comfortable being in front of the camera, asking great questions of the owner and explaining certain details, showing the floor plans for each level, and what a well polished video product you give us, your audience. Amazing how many original features are still there, and weren’t lost over time. I am thrilled for you at your subbie count - your channel has grown beautifully. Thank you to everyone involved on this one - superior job!! I will definitely be watching this one again!

I am a retired architect. I am, have been and always will be an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright's work. I have visited many of his remaining houses and have toured quite a few. Aside from that, I love the detail and flourishes that these "styled" houses were designed with. The craftsmanship is almost unbelievable when you consider that much of the woodwork and masonry and other trades as well, was done with handtools by experienced and talented craftsmen without the assistance of power tools. I love to see the excessive detail that the architects and builders were able to create and wonder how voluminous the architect's plans must have been to guide the builders to produce such works of art as these houses exhibit. I am a recent subscriber to your channel and have viewed a few of your videos. I find them so very interesting and they are so well done. The only negative comment that I would have is that they too short to appreciate some of the magnificent details that exist is every house. These houses are "art" that must be preserved and kept in perpetuity. They are every bit as valuable if not more so as any other artwork performed by famous artist elsewhere in the world. I realize that much more time and expense must have been spent photographing, editing and narrating the videos and that much of the photography never makes it to the final product. Some especially intricate detail deserve a closer reveal and a slower "pan" with the camera. But I am so grateful that you possess the desire to make these videos that I am apologetic for even mentioning my minor dissatisfactions. Please continue to do what you do so very well in recording these masterpieces of architectural beauty and history. I am a thankful subscriber.

I remember seeing an article on this house in the magazine "Old House Journal", and I fell in love with the light fixtures and the kitchen. The interior of this house reminds me somewhat of Rosemount House Museum in Pueblo, CO, originally owned by the Thatcher family. Love that the owner restored old details back to what they originally looked like, yet the house is very much functional for modern living at the same time too. I think you can save details in an old house and make it compatible with modern times. What a great owner of the home!!

Beautiful example of magnificent Gilded Age elegance. Unfortunately too many like this are gone 😪 , victims of neglect, remodeling, or worst of all greed, especially in large cities where historic mansions have been replaced with high rises or commercial buildings. I noticed that someone mentioned the quality of Magic Chef ranges. They were always a favorite in my family. In the late 1950s, Mom bought a 40 inch with double storage compartments and a chrome lined oven! Oh how I would love to have THAT one today! Many thanks to the gracious owner and to you for a great experience.

He probably has all kinds of college degrees in architecture, but wow, I would love to be able to do this. I find these old mansions endlessly fascinating. The architecture, the history, the ostentatious display of wealth. What's not to love? There's probably some major down sides to this, but I have no idea what they are. I can't even imagine doing this every day of the week. It'd be great!!!

Also a thanks to the last owners with continued with love and care in making sure the house 🏠 guarded all its historical features with emense respect. It's so beautiful and in mint condition, can imagine how intense the servants must of worked in maintaining the mansions glamor and splendor. I remember when I began to cook with my mother on her new state of the art new Magic Chef stove it was beautiful with a light and a clock on the hood lighted oven with a window door. Mom and myself took extra care in its cleaning and maintenance and believe by now it would still be working in top condition. Pray that this Magic Chef mansion will never face the rocking ball. 🙏

I so appreciate the owner for opening up her house for all to see. It is simply amazing and so much love and attention to the details of the past are reflected in all the house. Funny that I should feel a touch of nostalgia seeing those old pin ball machines. My brother and I would go into Hurkey's Bar on Delmar across the alley to buy our nickel popsicles; it brought back the smell of beer as we entered with pin ball machines lining the back wall. I long for those simple days of yesterday. Again thank you both for This brief, although lovely reminder of the past.

Iliked everything. Especially the details of the craftsmanship. So incredibly artistic. Astonishing the amount of hand made work.😄

What a work of art! It is like you step back in time. My favorite room is the receiving room. It was beautiful & light.
I also liked the kitchen..liked that all the pots & pans& utensils were silver in color & not copper.
The artwork, i could tell was beautiful, but you whizzed by it too fast. I wanted to read the plaque in the breakfast room but couldn’t.
What a well loved home and it shows. Shelly, you are a jewel too.
I am going to watch this again to see if i can see more of the artwork.
Thank you! What a blessing this was.

My favorite room was the dentist's office connected to the wine cellar. This place is lovely and has so many interesting areas, like the saloon that came from a library. The miniature stoves and knickknacks were so 😍.

I love these old restorations, but I too wonder if it pays off financially to restore these mansions. As a middle class homeowner I want to be able to get my money back if I sell. Luckily house prices are sky high where I live (I got in before the big run up in prices) so anything I do to my house pays me back in equity. But not all homeowners are in such a fortunate position.

Beautiful home. Many of the Gilded Age Mansions have a sad feeling. The Magic Chef house has a warm happy feel to it

Honor to Shelly for preserving history and understanding, these place just need love. Everytime I see one go down to decay and neglect its like a death of creation and its tragic and seems to be haunted, but this place is alive and full of life

The woodwork is premier 👌 .. Top notch- I am a painter whose done restoration for over 20 years. Carpenters dream of that kind of grain pattern and flaking in the materials they chose throughout. Not to mention the plasters or even just the paint sheens she chose.. Wow

When I think of all the beautiful homes that have succumbed to time and modernization, it’s such a pleasure to know that so many of our countries historically significant homes are still in existence.
