    WIKIPEDIA:
    A mountain is a large landform that rises above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill. Mountains are formed through tectonic forces or volcanism. These forces can locally raise the surface of the earth. Mountains erode slowly through the action of rivers, weather conditions, and glaciers. A few mountains are isolated summits, but most occur in huge mountain ranges.
    High elevations on mountains produce colder climates than at sea level. These colder climates strongly affect the ecosystems of mountains: different elevations have different plants and animals. Because of the less hospitable terrain and climate, mountains tend to be used less for agriculture and more for resource extraction and recreation, such as mountain climbing.

    • @MrOrangeJoe
      @MrOrangeJoe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Nothing weird.
      Mons Olympus is the volcano. Volcanoes grow taller when they erupt because magma flows out and freezes thus making a new layer of mountain and increasing it's height. Now imagine such a volcano erupting for the millions of years.
      Everest, on the other hand, as well as all the Himalayas in general is the result of the continental platfrom collision rather than continuous volcanism.

    • @yanlinzhu2682

      @madhavsomaiya3572 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kushalrijal9453 That doesn't work because Everest's actual base starts at ~4,200m (From SL). We're actually doing Everest a huge favour by measuring it from Sea level. From base to top, Everest is only around 4,600m. This actually makes it SHORTER than mountains such as Panch Chuli in India, which is only ~6,800m from sea level but is ~5,400m from base to top. Mauna Kea's base is 6,000 metres under the sea floor, because it makes up a HUGE volcano that is so tall that it breaks the ocean's surface by 4,000m. This is why Mauna Kea is sometimes measured from under sea level and Everest is measured from sea level. In reality, Everest is not really that tall from base to top.

      Mt Kailash is in Tibet, just used in a lot of Indian mythology. The real Indian mountains missing from the video are Nanda Devi and Kanchenjunga (Kanchenjunga is shared with Nepal, however it is India's highest mountain and is the world's 3rd.)

    In the List I lack the Teide Volcano in Tenerife, with 3,715 meters high from sea level it is the highest point in Spain. And if we count from the Oceanic Bed it is placed at the third highest point on the planet with 7,500 meters. It is also the third Volcano listed as Dangerous.
    Aún así mola mucho el vídeo.

    Super cool clip… landed on it when I Googled to find a comparative visual reference for a 2000+ meter volcano in São Tomé. Not realizing the origin of this clip, the Martian ending came as a complete surprise… but I loved the unexpected twist!
    I especially like the clever way it depicts these creatures on varying sized blocks over faint lines that I assume mean “sea level.”
    However, to compare the Martian volcano with our Earthly volcanoes & mountains in such a way is completely incongruous.
    Firstly, it’s a different planet… we can’t possibly assume that our commonly accepted system of measurement applies equally on Mars. To boot, our measures are still theoretical at best.
    More importantly, this graphic of the Martian peak is measured from its surface. The ones on Earth depict heights from land, not our surface; that place is at the very bottom of our oceans.
    We still haven’t mapped out nor qualified/quantified those depths and dimensions…
    I reckon that taking measure from the ocean floor will render our magnificent mountains & volcanoes far more impressive than whatever exists on Mars.
