    Mettler has Seraflex, Guttermann has Maraflex, the one mentioned in the comments is from Coats. I use Seraflex with straight stitch both in needle and bobbin. No pops, no zigzag stitch, i.e. less thread use. Guttermann Maraflex may be slightly more expensive (?) but certain comments say it has more elasticity and is more suited for sportswear. Anyway, needle 70 or 80, depending on the sewing machine, lower the tension, stitch length 3 or higher. Just test.

    Excellent video. Wonderful to have those examples. This means we are not being TOLD what thread to use. We are being SHOWN the outcome of various methods and now we KNOW for ourselves. Thank you Thank you. ❤❤❤ I will subscribe.

    I do the short stitch with stretching. But I also sew with knits like twice a year so that's good enough for me LOL. But I'm glad to learn about the flexible thread!

      ... I usually sew knits with a short stitch/stretching too. But, I do like having options for knits that are not as "snap backy" ... I like that you don't have to stretch the fabric to get a stretchy seam! Thanks for watching

    Wow, could have used this yesterday when I was trying to figure out how to do a line of top stitching on a tshirt neck and didn't want to mess with a twin needle.

    Great video as always. Thanks, Jen! Question: Let’s say you’re making a knit t shirt. Would you use Seraflex on all the seams? And would you use it with a knit stitch and/or a walking foot?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks so much! ...I would use it with a shorter stitch length/regular straight stitch... & I always have my "walking foot" on... My Janome 6700P sewing machine has straight and zig-zag feet with built-in feed dogs that work just like a walking foot... just less bulky! Thanks for watching

    Thanks for this lesson. I had heard of stretch thread and this shows how good it works. Also I’m thinking it’s less time consuming than some of the other methods you demonstrated or doing a zigzag stitch. I ordered some wheels for my sewing table today so I can move it around when I’m cutting out patterns or when I’m altering patterns.

      Glad it was helpful! It is easier... Honestly, I forget that I have it... I'm going to pull them out and put them in my "at the ready" thread stand so they are in eyeball view! ...Hope those wheels have locks on them so you can steady when you're working!! Thanks for watching

    (Linda) Hi there, hope you are well. I wanted to know; I use that yellow triangle chalk and it doesn't disappear (ugghh). What do you use that would wash out and iron out (i guess both would be good to have) Thank you!! 😊

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It is true that "innocent" chalk can leave a mark.... Anything you mark the fabric with can leave a mark on some fabrics. ...Pilot Frixion Pens safely iron out of most fabrics (always test on a scrap!) Here's an amazon affiliate link for those: amzn.to/45dYUqE I discovered these wash away markers (while doing crafts with my grand daughter... She make a holy mess on the outfit she was wearing... The marks washed out completely) Here's an amazon affiliate link for those. amzn.to/3VtIBmq Hope this helps! Thanks for watching

    • @JSternDesigns

      Nope! This elastic thread works better with a stretch needle. A ball point tip can find it's way into the open weave of linen fabric!! Thanks for watching

    How does the seraflex differ from Eloflex?

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I discovered Seraflex after working with Eloflex... It's more "agreeable" with some sewing machines... I have had no problems with it (Seraflex)... As a matter of fact, I think I'm going to include it in my kit for "How to Sew Knits on the Sewing Machine" classes... The Eloflex thread worked great in my machines, but I noticed that with some drop in bobbin machines, it made the bobbin case hop around and did not make a good stitch. :)

      @patgottshalk8808 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Did you break the needle threader wire or misalign it? I bent mine and realigned it by putting a 16 or 18 needle in and coaxing it back into position.

    Jen, would you ever use Seraflex in your serger? I'm thinking of leggings, and very stretchy tops.

    • @JSternDesigns
      @JSternDesigns  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The seam that you sew on a serger has a ton of built-in stretch... so I'm not sure Seraflex is necessary. ...But you have me thinking about it. Stay Tuned, I'm going to test the theory!! Thanks for watching

    You mentioned that you broke your needle threader .. google TH-cam how to charge your needle threader.
    I bought a replacement needle threader for my machine on Amazon.
    It’s really easy to change you might need to get the screwdriver for your machine to change your needle threader.
    I was charged $79. To fix my needle threader. The next time I changed it myself for the cost of the new part.

      Mine was about $28.
      I have a Viking Diamond. It’s just a 5 minute job you need to get the right screwdriver 🪛 to change it

      I have a Janome MC11000 SE (it's an older, discontinued model) and I also had broken my automatic needle threader. When I had it in the shop for a checkup I asked to have the needle threader repaired and they said they couldn't because the part was no longer available. I had seen the part online, and I was able to order it from a vendor on eBay, I installed it myself. It was a little tricky because I needed more than 2 hands to hold things in place while aligning the eye of the needle with the little hook. I finally hit on putting the hook through tthe eye of the needle and using a little bit of tape to hold it in place while I tightened the screws. To my shock, it worked! Everytime I use my threader successfully, I give a silent little cheer! I think the part was around $10 plus a few dollars for shipping. You do have to be careful to get a threader compatible with your machine, as there are different kinds.
