- Jaundice is a condition where the skin and eyes take on a yellowish color due to increased levels of bilirubin in the bloodstream. Bilirubin can be either unconjugated or conjugated; unconjugated bilirubin is produced by macrophages and conjugated bilirubin is stored in the gallbladder. Jaundice can be caused by both types of bilirubin getting into the blood. This video covers common diseases that lead to increased serum levels of conjugated bilirubin, unconjugated bilirubin, or both.
6 years of med school so far and not a single teacher managed to explain this so well. Thank you so much
And here we were taught icterus and jaundice were different.
Why such comments has to had in every videos...:-(

That was amazing
I'm about to graduate from Medical school, And you are one of the most people those help me up, Thanks from the bottom of my heart!
Unconjugated biliruben is turned in the intestine into sterckobilinogen
but in the bladder into urobilinogen.
Thank you
appreciating your efforts
I'm a dentist five years into practice. I wanted to revisit this concept..I opened my physiology books and broke by head for two hours. Then I stumbled on this video and thank God I did..🙏🏼🙏🏼

Oh man, you did a fab job. I am lucky to find the video. Awesome explanation
Superb video. Very crisp Content ! Thanks a lot.
I love ur videos, they are so helpful and informative. Great job👌
amazing video , few things to add
the heme that was broken breaks too biliverdin first by heme oxygenase and then bilirubin by biliverdin reductase so then this bilirubin is taken into liver by binding of albumin (facilated diffusion) because like you said its insouluble so then bilirubin is joined with glucoronic acid forming bilirubin glucosiduronate which is then moved to bile by ABC TRANSPORTER( atp binding casscade) then intestine deconjugated by bacteria forming urobilinogen and then what u said basically about it oxidised to form urobilin which gives poop the its color lol
thank u so much.
This video is AMAZING!! Not only did you make the material easy to understand, but you also made it fun to look at with your cute smiley faces and expressions.
The only question I have is in regards to cases of elevated unconjugated bilirubin. If there is elevated amounts, can there still be absent urine bilirubin?? I understand that the liver is doing its best to convert the excess UCB to CB thus eventually resulting in "dark colored urine," but is this only if there is too much UCB? I hope that makes sense.
thank you so much sharing information in a best way.
Realy you are doing a great work ❤

Yeah bro...I guess he made a mistake
Yeah I think so too

One of my friend has jaundice last month and taken allopathy treatment for the same but her jaundice keep on increasing day by day with loss of appetite . Then she switch to ayurvedic treatment and see the positive effect of medication , now she is fine with a very low level of bilirubin left.
Hello do you have the treatment name please ?

I have a question. As you explained bilirubin being the reason why pee is yellow then why is pee sometimes different shades of yellow due to not drinking enough?
Hi! Time to update the video :))
Thanks
Very thanks 🙏🏻
The tranlations.. cover the important parts of d page..plz give a concern
Unconjugated bilirubin that was entering liver from spleen, is it thru slpeenic vein?
Yes splenic vein and superior mesenteric vein combines to form portal vein
Pardon! What does it suppose to mean (the more you know!) ?
Perfect!!! :)
literally the first place I come to when I have an exam. thank u so much. medscape > doctors
Legend
Mistake alert: Sclera proper has got no elastin. It is maily conjunctiva and episcleral tissue that has elastin and so, they take up bilirubin and appear yellow.
Yah icteric sclera is a misnomer
Thank u
I have it but I don’t understand what your are saying I’m only in year 7
Why the body needs to store the billirubin in the gall bladder/bile acid instead of just eliminate them from the body directly?
I believe the reason is because biliverdin (breakdown of heme from RBC) is converted into bilirubin which is insoluble. So it needs a transport like albumin to move about. If we eliminate them from the body directly, wouldn't we lose a lot of our albumin (protein)? That's why we send the unconjugated bilirubin to the liver to be conjugated so that it can then be excreted out that way.
