    Welsh side of the bridge, Chepstow Park Wood, Wentwood, Tintern Old Station (this one's legit and has a seasonal cafe). Also when my freewheel froze (no drive!) the suggestion was to wee on it. No idea what that would do for your dynamo though. Hardcore camping! It's been cold around here lately 🙂

    Next time you head out this way, stay on the old roman road through Grovely Woods and carry on up to Great Ridge. Virtually no one goes there and you’ll find any number of good spots to camp, there’s even a large wooden shelter you can use in bad weather. From there you can head over to Cold Kitchen Hill and then down into Longleat and onto the NCP 24, which takes you to Bath.

    Good work as always! Have you ever done a video on how you plan your routes? Be good to see what you use/approach etc.

    Crikey! 3-4degC all day and down to -4 overnight! It's so bloody hot here in Australia atm so I almost wish I was back there riding. Did Bristol to Wales across the bridge and up the Wye Valley on my way to The Lakes District in 2002. Fond memories!

    Great trip. I have similar planned but in warmer weather.
    I’ve camped in Grovely woods where you arrived first. So many pockets to stay where you won’t be seen. More so the far west end of the woods. The east end is full of dog walkers as car parks at either end.
    Shame about the dynamo. I think I am going to convert my gravel bike to have one as it will really help keep things charged and run lights at nights.
    Great video

    For next time Josh: If you go into the services turning before the severn bridge and hang a Right down a track, through sort of scrapyard/builders yard (theres a right of way through ) keep going down the farm track until you hit the river bank at the bottom.
    There's a few places to wild camp just upstream of the bridge and you are only 5 mins from the services roundabout. HTH. 🙂

      @@GrahamFootBicycleLover From our neck of the woods: It's best approached from Whale wharf, via the severn way path which is a nice little offroad section next to the river. 🙂
      I keep spotting fatbike tracks on my rides and always think it must be you!

    I never understand why we worry about camping because of a few dog walkers ….in my experience people don’t give a toss if you are wild camping. If it is public land or more to the point not their land they have no right or wish to disturb us.., wild campers just chill. I rock up way before sunset and I leave way after sunrise no probs

    Josh, question, have you got antifreeze for blood? How you sleep on the frozen floor with no mat beggars belief and then no winter shoes. As for frozen water, you had me looking for a hot drink and I'm sat in the warm. haha. I guess you don't miss what you haven't had. Great video and quite a few familiar sections. I know that bridge like the back of my hand now haha. Looking forward to the next chapter. Man do I need to keep my enthusiasm to ride at the mo. Struggling a bit with coming off meds but I'll join you soon. Crack on boyo, isn't it.

      ive got two pairs the ones im wearing in this video are just some wedze downhill ski gloves from decathlon pretty cheap and warm enough. then some dakine gortex ski gloves for when its really bad. But struggle with the camera in those

    Another great adventure Josh. Just wondering how you work out your routes? Do you plot them on Komoot, if so is it reliable or do you have issues with impassible tracks. Done a couple of local ish trips but hopefully going further afield later in the year and am looking to have a good navigation source. Keep the adventures coming love watching 👍

    • @KeepSmilingAdventures
      @KeepSmilingAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i pretty much always use komoot to plot them but there are sometimes where there is some trial and error.

    Thanks for the consistently brilliant videos. Really inspiring. I did my first overnighter in 2022, and am planning a couple of longer trips in the spring. As you ride solo, can I ask, how do you secure your bike when you need to pop into the shops for supplies? Is there a good, lightweight lock you can recommend?

    • @edwardgurhy100
      @edwardgurhy100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Josh covered that in a very recent video. Rush in - know what you want - rush out. Someone moved his bike once - but never lost one. I tend to do much of the same. Best of luck / riding. 🙂

    • @KeepSmilingAdventures
      @KeepSmilingAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pretty much as edward said for me, you can get some small little locks that are good for quick shop stops though Graham here th-cam.com/video/w0Sn-I4nFIU/w-d-xo.html carries a small one at around the 13.30 min mark

    Another great video ,When using Komoot do you use MTB or Gravel routes ? The last time I used MTB it took me down loads of foot paths & gates I had to lift my bike over .

    • @KeepSmilingAdventures
      @KeepSmilingAdventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      try using the enduro mtb option seems to stick more to actual bridleways, not 100% though
