I got to that point about a year ago, just lost interest in mtb then by magic I watched a random vlog on TH-cam with an EUC (electric unicycle) man I'm hooked with my kingsong S18 but still love mtb
8:45 "I don't really know where I am" Me: "Well I certainly do!". Watching from Australia, it was tremendous to see so many familiar places. Thanks Josh!
It’s beautiful in the winter. I camped Saturday night in Cranborne. Got down to -6 the thermometer said. Certainly felt it. Lovely part of the country and the ox drove in spring/summer is 👌🏻
Really glad you're back on the bike. This, for me, totally epitomises recapturing the feeling we used to get exploring on our bikes as kids: no plan, no purpose, just riding. Nice one. Have a great 2023!
I now do what 'Jethro Jessops suggested ride to Fill in the Gaps'. I added all my Completed Tours in Komoot into a single Collection, then you ride and fill in the gaps on the map.
Only bike packed once in Southern England - and guess what, halfway through things looked familiar. Spent a night very close to the camp spot in the video. A very different story at the end of a long dry Summer. The Ox Drove is recommended, but pick a dry spell. Loved it
Haha, I'm like that too, there are days when I really don't know where to ride a bike, then I'll just ride the saddle, then pedal, then there are new places to discover hahaha 🚴😁 very relaxing Ride!!!
I had to consult the Google monster and apparently “The water in this location never warms up to comfortable values.” 😅 Really enjoy your videos, thanks. The swim just confirms you’re a bit of a nutter!
Hope all is well. Staying motivated and inspired in cold weather climates can be quite challenging. Much like all your other videos scenery was amazing. Stay safe and look forward to more videos.
Hahaa great video Josh and welldone for shrinking your manhood in the cold sea. That was a great random adventure. I struggle riding in freezing conditions because I can't close or even blink my left eye, it's a real pain at the moment though I did manage a 10 miler earlier today. Stay warm Sandy
Can get a bit like that sometimes can't it Josh, loosing the love or too much time out through injury - I feel you and well done for getting into the sea at that temperature mate
Thank you for sharing your adventure. You’ve inspired me. Was going to skip my ride tomorrow because the temp is going to be 28 F (minus 2 for you). But now I can’t wait to get out and hear the crunch. It is quite beautiful in Oregon when it’s crispy cold.
A lovely ramble. Your photography just keeps getting better. The stars were exceptionally nice. Will have to use the glove toss😊. I have literally tossed a coin to make major life decisions.😆 I admit it is hard to get on the bike in this cold weather. You are completely bonkers taking a dip in the sea.(I say this in all kindness) Thanks for keeping us all motivated. Cheers
"I'm not a man, I know longer have those parts". hahaha, you nutter, although cold water is the best, once you're in, its just getting in that I struggle with. Nice one Josh.
Fair play to you as I'm struggling with the motivation thing too during this freezing weather. In fact my Bombtrack has been cleaned to within an inch of it's life. Just have to get out on it at some point. Supposed to be warmer this coming weekend.
@@KeepSmilingAdventures To be fair it got clogged to buggery with mud and I made the mistake of leaving it a couple of days. Been scared of going through the same process so waiting for slightly drier weather (and warmer)
HI Josh, Happy New Year to you. I am glad to see you are back in the saddle. I think the motivation for cyclists is always at a low this time of year. I commute roughly 10 miles each way to work every day and the dark is just so boring. Your videos are always inspirational, thank you for all you do. Personally, I try and watch one of your videos each day, I find them relaxing and help me to remember why we do this. Kudos for the ocean dip!
Nice one ! I went out a few weeks ago when it was minus3 , unfortunately I hit some ice & came out of it & it's put me off going out in those temperatures a bit ,at 59 I don't bounce so well lol. PS have you thought about a Rohloff system ? I love mine , no maintenance just change the oil once a year ....Thanks for the motivation.
Another great video mate. Nice to see you back on the bike again even though the Q & A was great too. Some on the most genuine and rewarding content out there.
Good for you mate, it does take strength to just get out and do it even when you don;t want to or have no motivation to do so. Applies to many things in life so hopefully just sucking it up and getting out will have given you some mojo back!
Great ideas for randomised riding. Do you find that bridleways are always through routes? Also re the rear mech, I just picked up a great deal on some Microshift Advent X 10x for my new build. It all seems really well built.
Great little trip! Have you tried overshoes? I bought those shoes based on your review video, but they are definitely not warm enough in winter (for my feet anyway)
SRAM AXS eagle is fantastic if you hate adjusting for Cable lengthening, you can even micro adjust the chain line from the shifter while riding. The battery lasts long enough for my purposes, I get about 1300 km with 20000 meters of climbing out of one. For mechanical SRAM MTB derailleurs there is a Microshift 12 speed thumbshifter far superior in function to the SRAM shifters, you can up and down shift the whole cassette range in one fell swoop. I prefer SRAM MTB derailleurs to shimano because the clutch on the Shimano ones engages way too late and this makes it almost useless. I don't know why they do that maybe to not impact shifting performance I have no clue.
@@KeepSmilingAdventures I did to start with, but the lever just doesn't feel as natural. plus there's no "Feel" you have to check you shifted sometimes as you can't feel a click. I love the "No cables" but I think I'll be switching back.
@@GrahamFootBicycleLover add a speaker to the leaver so every time you shift it makes a cow noise or something. 😂 its about time shimano did a proper wireless groupset
Should've called the video Nowhere From Home. Surely a TH-cam algorithm would've noted 'home' much more poignantly than 'particular'... oh, and XT for the win.

Motivation is not always easy to find but your video's help me to get out there and ride, looking forward to the next adventure.
Absolutely agree. The winter brings a peace and calm and the sound of ice cracking is a welcome serenity needed for the mind!.
Nice one Josh Happy Burns Night . Greetings from Scotland.

Fabulous esp the dip at the end x
Autumn Winter and Spring are my favourite times to bike pack and stealth camp here in Australia. It's way way to dam hot in our summers.

I love the “glove toss” vs the coin toss. I always enjoy your videos!
😂😂😂 the swim was insane! What a legend. Loving the channel mate. Looking forward to more in 23 🤩🤙
Shimano like you said it yourself ‘just works’. No brainier tbh considering the epic rides you do.

My experience of GX AXS, selling it. The shifter feel is crap. It matters to me, just can't get on with the "No feel or click"

Those SRAM DUB bottom brackets are not very durable. It's the first thing i swap out on a new bike. Either Shimano or Hope for me.
f**k ya, the stuff of legend
Stick with cables as you can carry spares ..
