One of the best, funniest, most revealing books on writing I've ever read. He makes so many good philosophical points, you just want to chase people down in order to read them aloud (especially to people who think they don't like King)! One of my favorite books of all time.

It shows a bit of creative fatigue which is understandable considering the pain he was going through during the time he was writing it. My favorite King novel from that period is Hearts In Atlantis. King has too many awesome novels to pick one as a favorite. It's easier if you divide his 46 year writing career into decades and pick your favorite from each decade. My favorites are usually his short story collections. I love them all, especially Skeleton Crew.

Since I've given up watching tv and don't see the commercials, and am kinda isolated (I live on an island), and don't use social media, well, except for leaving comments like this on yahoo, I often don't learn when a new book or movie of is coming out. (That said, I went to the movies for the first time in over a decade last Saturday to see Dr. Sleep and loved every single second of it). Of course, with the internet I could probably set some notification somewhere or other, at least then I could begin the count-down to when either it's released in paper back or I'm financially solvent enough to splurge on the hard cover. Then I wouldn't have to accidentally discover them years later in the library!
I also have only about 15 King novels. I used to have them all back in the 90s but over the years I've read them to tatters and the only ones I have left are the ones that still have all the pages. Even the hard backs fall apart because his books tend to have sooo many pages.
One of my FAVORITE short stories by Stephen King : Mrs. Todd's Shortcut ... Have read it several times just for the sheer pleasure of the story and how it is written. If you haven't had the pleasure I highly recommend you give it a read.. It is quite short.. so an easy read.

I never was really scared by Stephen Kings writing as much as I was totally immersed in the stories. I remember reading Salem’s Lot (which I still think is his best book) and not wanting to reach the end. It is just a fantastic read.
There's nothing like opening a new hardcover Stephen King novel and letting the story escape. I'll take any story this man will give us. We're only going to get so many stories from him so I want as many as he's willing to share!

Yep since I read PetCem at 13. He’s always scared me, occasionally traumatised me.
I saw the 1990s "IT" when I was thirteen and read the book shortly after...I've loved him ever since.
The shining is his masterpiece. Part of the movie was filmed at Timberline Lodge and the times I've stayed there… brrrrr, forget the cold, couldn't shake the eerie his story ingrained in me for life.

I know, right? Since I've given up watching tv and don't see the commercials, and am kinda isolated (I live on an island), and don't use social media, well, except for leaving comments like this on yahoo, I often don't learn when a new book or movie of is coming out. (That said, I went to the movies for the first time in over a decade last Saturday to see Dr. Sleep and loved every single second of it). Of course, with the internet I could probably set some notification somewhere or other, at least then I could begin the count-down to when either it's released in paper back or I'm financially solvent enough to splurge on the hard cover. Then I wouldn't have to accidentally discover them years later in the library!

I also have only about 15 King novels. I used to have them all back in the 90s but over the years I've read them to tatters and the only ones I have left are the ones that still have all the pages. Even the hard backs fall apart because his books tend to have sooo many pages.

One of my FAVORITE short stories by Stephen King : Mrs. Todd's Shortcut ... Have read it several times just for the sheer pleasure of the story and how it is written. If you haven't had the pleasure I highly recommend you give it a read.. It is quite short.. so an easy read.

Totally. I've been wondering for some time why she was considered moderate. She makes noises like she's seriously considering taking a liberal position on an issue, but then always votes her party line. She does it because it gets her attention and TV time. It makes her "one of the ones to watch." (On an aside, does she have some sort of speech impediment that makes her speak SO SLOWLY??? Or is that just another trick to hog camera time?)

I never was really scared by Stephen Kings writing as much as I was totally immersed in the stories. I remember reading Salem’s Lot (which I still think is his best book)
and not wanting to reach the end.
It is just a fantastic read.
