People in India are being scam in the name of liking your video. anonymous msg came from an unknown no. and she told to like 3 videos and get 150 rupees.and after they get scammed

Misleading videos, they seem like genuine people but they are talking everything up to get followers and money on click throughs, have been on the same Douro river tour they went on and it was shithouse compared to their review. There was no wine on the boat...Spent 7 of the 10hours on a big arse bus...

Please don’t expect what you see in the advertising for the Douro Valley tour. Misleading offerings. There is NO wine on the boat as per the videos and the booking photo. This was the main reason we booked this specific tour - wine on the river 🩷. Less wine served in the tastings than in the video. We were made to walk (without any prior indication to taking the tour) up and down a steep and uneven hill of 8 mins downhill (more time uphill). This was 37 degrees on cobble stones. Other tour buses of the same size did not make guests walk up and down the hill. There was no excuse of lack of space because all the other busses were gone but we were still made to walk back up the hill without warning. We were sad that we did not go to Croft Winery too. I do not recommend. Hire a driver, take your own adventure and see more of the beautiful area.

A little correction and a few tips for your next time here:
"Playa" as in "Playa de Salgueiros" is spanish. In Portuguese we write "Praia".
Now for the tips: to get to know Porto you really need to walk. Yes, you can take buses, tours, Ubers, etc. but you will miss a lot. Your recommendations about Torre dos Clérigos and the Sé Catedral were spot on, but you missed Palácio de Cristal and a couple of other spots. And, when you're at the Sé, try walking around it. There's a lot more to see.
    Have fun :)

@@ian.and.ana. I wonder how other wonderlust/tourism/living abroad channels get Portuguese music?🤔 Besides, there's plenty of "non-ethnic", "non-world music" soundtrack style beats copyright free that can be used without this misrepresentation of a country's musical identity. We're Portuguese, NOT spanish.

The writer lived very close to this bookstore, it's impossible not to have gone there. It is said that there was a disagreement between her and the bookstore owners about commissions ( money).

That is what we heard!! She must have gone

She didn't live near Lello. She lived on Rua do Duque de Saldanha, exactly two kilometres from the bookstore, when she was married, and before that, when she was single, she lived even farther away. For context, that's pretty far in tightly-packed-together urban area--which means people in this city basically have all they need within a small radius and there's not much reason that she'd be regularly ambling past that shop--and this was also over a decade before the metro system showed up, something which greatly increased people's mobility.
Even if she had lived near the bookstore, that's no reason to believe that she would have visited it. You need to historicize: She lived in Porto in the early 90s. At that time, the bookstore was, believe it or not, barely a tourist attraction and, for at least some residents, barely a footnote in their knowledge of their own city. I lived in Loios, the location of the bookstore, for several years in the early 00's, and even in that later time it was a sleepy, less-than-heavily trafficked place. While I'm relying on more than purely personal experience here, I'll note that I, even as bibliophile, was unaware of its existence for nearly a year, and in subsequent years when I did visit it a few times, I found the place nearly empty, and as a result had long, uninterrupted chats with the manager. Yes, that's hard to believe now, based on the winding lines all the way down the hill that can be seen every day, but that's the way it was. The downtown area was not Disneyland.
I understand the business perspective in Porto promoting its ties to JK Rowling, but most are specious, don't stand up to even slight scrutiny, and often rely on painfully literally-minded connection-making. (A random fountain features a griffin; therefore, that must be what inspired House Gryffindor---never mind that the house's emblem is a mere lion.) Note that I say "most" here, because, yes, even though JK wasn't too fond of her time in Porto--that's an entirely different post--things did rub off on her. She has confirmed, for instance, that the cloaks worn by Porto uni students did in fact inspire the Hogwarts dress code.
Maybe it appears that I doth protest too much, but I have a pretty invested reason why some of this misguided mythology irks me. Just one insight: My former boss has been cited multiple times as the definite inspiration for Professor Dumbledore. At first it was mentioned as a mere possibility; over time, though, and as these things go, that notion has ossified into established fact. I mean, just look at this picture of him posted in a "Here's What Inspired Rowling" article in a local paper! If you squint, does he not look like he could pass for an elderly, wizened professor? Well, yeah, I guess? But, maybe, you know, don't put your finger on the scale and actually select an image that's contemporaneous with Rowling's tenure in Porto, not one from a few years ago? Because, you know, on the day that she left this city--in quite a rush and quite unhappily, I should say--that guy was in his early forties.
Here's the thing. She's a writer. Even if Harry Potter is not your particular cup of tea, anyone should be able to concede that she has imagination, that she's capable of conjuring up people, places, and things without having to constantly rely on literal 1:1 cognates. And when it comes to fairly basic things--I mean, come on, Dumbledore the wise old mentor is a timeworn trope, and archetype--that's especially the case. Sorry, but it wasn't a cool art deco staircase in a Portuguese bookshop which begat the world Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

I´m portuguese and i dont know anyone who eats pastel de natas as breakfast... maybe once in a while people do, but saying "most of people do" is a huge exaggeration, specially in a time where people are becoming more aware of their own health and go for better food choices, which pastel de nata is not.

Ya, I’m surprised the tour guide said that’s a typical breakfast 😂🙊, def not. Maybe some ppl eat it for brekkie but it’s not the norm. Breakfast isn’t an important meal for 🇵🇹, maybe they have a coffee & bread w butter :)

It is insane that a local says that pastel de nata is the common Portuguese breakfast!! I am Portuguese and that is insanely wrong. We have bread, cereals, oats, coffee; cakes/pastry in the morning is really not the norm.
Then, the pastel the nata is part of a traditional 'convent' array of recipes. The real reason for the birth of these pastries is that, indeed, the monks had a lot of know-how and needed to make a living but they did this by being self sufficient and working the land and maintaining poultry, rabbitry, etc. for in-house consumption. The surplus of produce and time then allowed for inventions such as these... And other delicious 'doces de convento'...
Anyway, it sounds like a rant, but it isn't... it is just inaccuracies that are well intended, I am sure.

1:37 embaraçada does not exist in portuguese. You can say like maybe "envergonhada" (a woman/girl who is embarassed). The reason we find the spanish "embarazada" funny is bc it looks like the english "embarassed". Also "apelido" means "surname" and "nickname" actually means "alcunha".

"Owned half the world" that's a stretch. Spain and Portugal divided up the world but they any actually owned it. Grand plans that never came to fruition. Great video though!

Poerugal did not "own" other countries. It inviade/colonized areas outside of Portugal and killed/ens;aved people outside of its own defined boundaries. Does not equate to "owning" other countries.

We licked it therefor they were ours.
But seriously which nations did not try to invade/colonize others?
And regarding the locals for some we were welcome as we were allies against other locals or trade partners. For others we were oppressors or the allies of people they themselves wanted to dominate.
I will not apologise or feel embarrassed for what our ancestors did. They formed the world and for the much evil done then, there is some good left still today
