As someone who grew up during the troubles, I can now say that Belfast must be one of Europe's safest cities to walk around. The Europa hotel where you got off the bus used to be the most bombed hotel in the world. Thankfully things have turned right round. Great city now.

As someone from Northern Ireland, Lisburn {where you caught the bus}, I had no idea that parking in a specific direction was a thing. Obviously yes on a one-way street but on a two-way street, if the space is there, you take it. Between Lisburn and Belfast {about 8 miles} is a busy commuter hub so has halts {unmanned stations} every mile or so along the route and sadly a young woman stepped off the platform as a Lisburn to Belfast express was passing. You also filmed Bittles bar, from outside. This is a bit of an anti-tourist attraction. Check out the trip advisor reviews to find out more.

We get more sun in Dublin than people think, & looooong dusks in summer with light up to 11 pm in high summer, & long autumns, the East Coast, including Dublin, but especially Wexford, Waterford, Cork, south of Dublin is the more sheltered part of Ireland & known as the 'sunny south East'.
Some more useless info for you; condoms were illegal in The Republic of Ireland untill the late 1980's (I shit you not!), so people took that very rail journey up to Northern Ireland(part of UK) to get hold if them.🤦♂️🤩☘
Coleraine to Derry Londonderry is stunning. It's all beautiful see All the Stations Ireland on TH-cam. It looks like Ireland's railways are great but could do with more usage.
I did that trip every week for 2 years on business from Denmark. Dublin-Belfast-Dublin. Beautiful scenery all year round. My spiritual home for sure. Love Ireland.
When I saw you were transferred to a bus at the start of the video I thought ‘at least he’s getting to experience true train travel here in Ireland’ but when I found out about the fatality I felt horrible. I once was stuck on a train for 6 hours because some sheep wandered onto the line…. Our public transport infrastructure is the epitome of ‘it is what it is’ 🤣💜
For the street parking cars can park as long as they are in the spaces and it doesn’t matter which way they are facing , it’s difficult enough to find spaces so if they have to pull across a lane of traffic to park they safely do so :)

As an Irish person from Dublin only politicians use the term Northern Ireland. The majority of people say 'the north ' as we would say 'the west' 'the east' 'the south' For the most part it's not in our consciousness to view the north as a separate entity. Slainte from Ireland ☺💚💚💚.

It's a normal thing here regarding the parking, you just find a spot and if you can get a gap in the oncoming traffic then just pull across the road stick on your blinker and in you go either straight in or reverse in when its safe to do so :)
I vacationed there in Ireland 1-17-20. I found the whole place to be clean and spacious. Especially the bathrooms. Oh, did l mention how friendly the locals were? ☺

I'm From Belfast and love travelling down to Dublin, my partner works 5 days a week in Dublin and makes this trip back and forth weekly. I'd love to join him with our son for a trip together , but unfortunately due to covid-19 we cannot. Watching this has cheered me up remembering this too will pass and plenty of travels ahead in the future.
I started traveling to Northern Ireland, including Belfast and Derry, in the mid-1970s. Because of the Troubles, which mostly affected s few square urban, miles, I discovered to my joy that tourists were nowhere to be seen. Folks in Ireland were usually amazed to see an American tourist, but when I described the mean streets of downtown Philadelphia, where I lived, they began to understand how I found Northern Ireland so relaxing, even with the presence of a lot of British troops, checkpoints, etc.
You got off the train in Lisburn (my home town, thought now its the City of Lisburn). The station was originally built in 1839 but later rebuilt in 1878, so is an OLD station! Lisburn is beautiful & friendly & alot of folk say it should have always remained a "market town" rather than becoming a city... Its got to be 1 of the smallest cities in the UK, if not THE smallest! But it still retains its market town charm!!
I'm not sure you would call Lisburn - or by it's original name Lios na gCearrbhach - a city though considering it has a mere 45K in population. A large town maybe.
Yes, it is absolutely stunning. But I challenge whether it is Ireland's most scenic train journey. We're regular visitors to Ireland, with close family & friends there and we have a train-mad child. So, my recommendation is the DART from Dublin's Connolly Station to Bray, and beyond to Greystones. There are charming towns & villages on the stops. I suggest taking the DART to the last stop, and then either spending a bit of time exploring & returning back to Dublin on the DART. Or, jump straight back on at the end stop and get out at a planned stop on the way & explore there. It's enough of a daytrip to enjoy the scenic journey & explore one village or tow. Alternatively, the DART also goes north from Dublin to beautiful Howth, and it's only half an hour to make that journey. Howth is itself a beautiful seaside village.

Pleasant trip but if you like scenery, Dublin Rosslare is by some distance the best. Then try Dublin Tralee and Dublin Sligo. Apart from the section between Bray and Greystones on the way to Rosslare, we don't really have anything to compare with Scotland's Highland line which you posted. The short coastal section between Belfast and (London)Derry would be similiar
Did this trip in the 1990's when it first opened....bit of an adventure going from Manchester to Belfast without flying . Train to Holyhead, ferry to Dublin, and then this Intercity to Belfast. The view along the coast is stunning.

That part with the cars? Made me laugh out loud. I'm half Irish so two years ago I finally made the long-awaited journey to meet my cousins in Dublin. I flew and when I arrived in Dublin airport I made my way straight for the restrooms. My chosen stall wouldn't close. Why? The door had been put on backwards and so the lock was on the outside. So Welcome to Ireland!! It's different there.😂
My wife and I did a 15 day self drive tour of Ireland - it was great! We finished off the holiday doing this train trip from Dublin to Belfast. Yes, a very pleasant train trip indeed, but I wouldn't say it was great. I think I was spoilt by driving a car and stopping at somewhere pretty when/where I liked, rather than flying by in a train, and just getting a fleeting glance of something nice for only a couple of seconds.
I hear you, but you can turn that around. I'm always driving the car--so it is I that can't see anything except my eyes front and center on the road. In the train, I FINALLY can look at the countryside, doze off if/when I want, get up and walk around and so on. To me, train travel is hard to beat.
I have only been to the airport in Dublin, but I would like one day when this pandemic is over to spend a few days if now weeks visiting and enjoying what beautiful Ireland has to offer.
Hi, I like the enthusiasm and I am glad you enjoyed your time in Ireland, but I hope you didn't just arrive in Dublin one day, and then get a train to Belfast the next day and consider that you had seen much of Ireland! In general, the eastern part of the island of Ireland is more densely populated, and less scenic than the west. The west cost is much more rugged, scenic, unspoiled and generally considered more beautiful (google Wild Atlantic Way) . Also, in general, city centres are the least authentic part of any country. Not sure if it's the same in Canada, but that's the case in most European cities. One minor correction: you mentioned the midlands, but the word midlands refers to the middle part of the island, which you didn't travel though.
FYI Transport for Ireland is upgrading this line to run Belfast-Dublin-Cork using high speed trains with 200kph inter city express trains. Good news. The money has already been allocated.

Very nice! When I took the train from England to Wales the train broke down and we ended up taking a bus to Cardiff. It was exciting seeing the bilingual sign welcoming us to Wales. The trains in Scandinavia are also fabulous and very scenic just like on the beautiful island of Great Britain.🧐
The parking reminds me of the time in Canada when my Irish family and I parked so we were facing the car in front of us. Came back a policewoman about to write us a ticket! Had to explain how we had no idea of the parking rule, when it’s a "free for all" in Ireland.
I love Ireland. I've spent a week there and I feel like I haven't even began to scratch the surface. It has such a good balance of old and new, slow country pace and modern dense cities, all interconnected by efficient transportation. But one thing I miss the most about being in Ireland is the Taytos! (on the food cart at 3:54) Yes they are "just" potato chips but they're the best chips I've ever had. I bought several bags to take home but the flight delay and my lack of self control meant I had to buy more at the airport regardless of how overpriced they were
The platforms look nice and wide at the stations. And another big lovely bathroom!! It was good how the train company had everything organized for disruptions in the trains to help travellers.

Heads up: make sure to buy your Belfast-Dublin train tickets from Translink. It is less expensive than Ninja Rail. Ninja Rail is also super restrictive --- if you make a mistake or they do on your ticket there is no refund or modifications. They have no 'customer service' to speak of. So the message: the vendor matters.
You should tour Dublin IRELAND and go to cork . And you should go to bray and bray has a cliff walk to Grerystones and super cool train tunnels that you can go through with the Grerystones DART train and I live in IRELAND
In the UK and so Northern Ireland you can can park on either side of the street, you don't have to park in the direction you are travelling, hence cars in opposite directions, Unless a one way street of course. EDIT: To the people who have lost the gist of the video: i.e parking on both sides of the road and more concerned about the UK and NI being part of it, I wrote it the way I did to show the NI was part of the UK as not everybody realizes this many still think it is part of GB and some think it belongs to ROI and if you read the comment you can see I wrote it to be inclusive.

Ireland has actually been pretty sunny again this February! I just posted a video of my time in Belfast. It wasn't as sunny as Dublin, but it sure was fun!
41 quid for a cab to town from the airport? That is a rip off. Next time take the No 16 or 41 bus (Not the aircoach, which is also quite hefty at 7 quid), which stop at the bus station - cross through the multi story car park in front of Terminal 1 and you're right at the bus station. These buses get you into town in a reasonable time and cost like 3.60 or so plus you get your first real experience in Dublin, as these are not pure tourist buses that connect the airport to the hotels, but regular lines with everyday life (you can see the one or the other curious situation, sometimes you can experience a whole bus singing "The fields of Athenry" after a GAA match or see some musicians doing a trad session on the bus). More life, more fun at less cost! I think part of a visit of a place is also experiencing real life there and not just staying in the tourist bubble. Do as the locals do :-)
I did a similar detour once but in the other direction - I was on a steam excursion train which was going to Portadown, but we had to get off at Lisburn (where you got on the bus) because of a bomb threat further down the line (typical northern ireland!) We also ended up on a bus to Portadown.
Its a 2 way street so you can park either side . Whichever space is available you take it weather its on your side of the road or the other opposite side . Its not hard to understand 😂

On my first trip to Ireland, I took the car ferry from Fishguard in Wales to Rosslare. I got a room by the water in Bray, parked my car, and I took DART into the city. Avoiding Dublin traffic (and parking) was the smartest thing I ever did.
To hear anyone say Dublin is rarely sunny is a little bit of an exaggeration, yes we don’t get great summers but we do get quite a lot of sun, but we don’t get consistent dry sunny spells. When you travel from Dublin to Belfast by car or train you travel along the east coast, ya don’t go near the midlands just to correct you on that too. If it’s not a one way street you can park whatever way you like
Sure I once got in a taxi from Heuston towards South side. Journey should take approx 15mins and cost no more than 15 and its a straight road. He starts wiggling around Inchicore and Kilmainham and ends up back on the original road having added an extra 10 onto journey. Fecker was gonna try charge us around 40 until my sister said to him he need not think he's getting the extra money for that unnecessary detour. Asshole

Now there's something you don't see to often in train travel vlogs... Replacement transport. Unfortunately, this is a common reality of intensive railway transport through inhabited areas: every now and then there might be a traffic accident, but more often than that, it's suicide and it traumatises train drivers and attendants who are confronted with it. Very sad for all involved... As for the people in uniform at the station where you got on a bus, my guess would be that they weren't there investigating but rather just guiding travellers to the buses. That's how it tends to work in the Netherlands, anyway!
Yeah the guys at the station were with the rail company and just guiding to the bus.........you cant miss the RUC, they are armed and wear body armour and drive armoured riot jeeps.

The train route from Belfast to Derry is another nice stretch, when it finally meets the coast it's very picturesque.

matters after dark, it is a motoring offence to have your car the wrong direction in the hours of darkness.
My favorite train journey in Ireland is from Dublin to Wicklow, the best segment being between Bray and Greystones.
The whole coast mate, from Killiney, around Bray head and all the way down 'the murrough' to Wicklow

Did this trip in the 1990's when it first opened....bit of an adventure going from Manchester to Belfast without flying . Train to Holyhead, ferry to Dublin, and then this Intercity to Belfast. The view along the coast is stunning.

That part with the cars? Made me laugh out loud. I'm half Irish so two years ago I finally made the long-awaited journey to meet my cousins in Dublin. I flew and when I arrived in Dublin airport I made my way straight for the restrooms. My chosen stall wouldn't close. Why? The door had been put on backwards and so the lock was on the outside. So Welcome to Ireland!! It's different there.😂

My wife and I did a 15 day self drive tour of Ireland - it was great! We finished off the holiday doing this train trip from Dublin to Belfast. Yes, a very pleasant train trip indeed, but I wouldn't say it was great. I think I was spoilt by driving a car and stopping at somewhere pretty when/where I liked, rather than flying by in a train, and just getting a fleeting glance of something nice for only a couple of seconds.
I hear you, but you can turn that around. I'm always driving the car--so it is I that can't see anything except my eyes front and center on the road. In the train, I FINALLY can look at the countryside, doze off if/when I want, get up and walk around and so on. To me, train travel is hard to beat.

There's no view from the motorway anyway, even in the top front seat of a double-decker bus. The train is on the cost, and does have a view.

Hi, I like the enthusiasm and I am glad you enjoyed your time in Ireland, but I hope you didn't just arrive in Dublin one day, and then get a train to Belfast the next day and consider that you had seen much of Ireland! In general, the eastern part of the island of Ireland is more densely populated, and less scenic than the west. The west cost is much more rugged, scenic, unspoiled and generally considered more beautiful (google Wild Atlantic Way)
. Also, in general, city centres are the least authentic part of any country. Not sure if it's the same in Canada, but that's the case in most European cities. One minor correction: you mentioned the midlands, but the word midlands refers to the middle part of the island, which you didn't travel though.
FYI Transport for Ireland is upgrading this line to run Belfast-Dublin-Cork using high speed trains with 200kph inter city express trains. Good news. The money has already been allocated.

Dude, your videos are great....but if it cost you 40 euros from the airport to the city centre, you were totally ripped off!! It's only like 9 euros on the bus!
Its 3.30 on the 16 Dublin bus. Dublin bus is usually unreliable and crap but the 16 runs every 15/30 mins, so yeah he got ripped.
Also usually the taxi only cost like 25! 40 was extortionate

Very nice! When I took the train from England to Wales the train broke down and we ended up taking a bus to Cardiff. It was exciting seeing the bilingual sign welcoming us to Wales. The trains in Scandinavia are also fabulous and very scenic just like on the beautiful island of Great Britain.🧐
Now they have Dublin Express bus at the airport but it's private. It also goes to Belfast from Dublin Apt

The parking reminds me of the time in Canada when my Irish family and I parked so we were facing the car in front of us. Came back a policewoman about to write us a ticket! Had to explain how we had no idea of the parking rule, when it’s a "free for all" in Ireland.
You can get the Enterprise(that train) for about $15 if you book online 3 days before the date you want to travel.

I love Ireland. I've spent a week there and I feel like I haven't even began to scratch the surface. It has such a good balance of old and new, slow country pace and modern dense cities, all interconnected by efficient transportation. But one thing I miss the most about being in Ireland is the Taytos! (on the food cart at 3:54) Yes they are "just" potato chips but they're the best chips I've ever had. I bought several bags to take home but the flight delay and my lack of self control meant I had to buy more at the airport regardless of how overpriced they were
My cousin loved the Taytos while we were there. I ordered a case for her when we returned to the States. She was so happy when she received the case.

Heads up: make sure to buy your Belfast-Dublin train tickets from Translink. It is less expensive than Ninja Rail. Ninja Rail is also super restrictive --- if you make a mistake or they do on your ticket there is no refund or modifications. They have no 'customer service' to speak of. So the message: the vendor matters.
Mike, it's $7 Euro to take a rapid bus from downtown Dublin to the airport (and vice versa).

You should tour Dublin IRELAND and go to cork . And you should go to bray and bray has a cliff walk to Grerystones and super cool train tunnels that you can go through with the Grerystones DART train and I live in IRELAND
Cork, Galway and Belfast are the places to go.

Belfast was never a place to visit compared to other Irish cities, but now it's up there with Cork and Galway as one of the very best.
In the UK and so Northern Ireland you can can park on either side of the street, you don't have to park in the direction you are travelling, hence cars in opposite directions, Unless a one way street of course.
EDIT: To the people who have lost the gist of the video: i.e parking on both sides of the road and more concerned about the UK and NI being part of it, I wrote it the way I did to show the NI was part of the UK as not everybody realizes this many still think it is part of GB and some think it belongs to ROI and if you read the comment you can see I wrote it to be inclusive.

Certainly not the most scenic route. Try either the train to Rosslare (especially Bray Head) or that between Coleraine and Derry.

That is so funny and true ! Here in England people on the train platforms turn to each other and ask 'What did they say'? Inside the train they don't even ask.
Ireland has actually been pretty sunny again this February! I just posted a video of my time in Belfast. It wasn't as sunny as Dublin, but it sure was fun!
41 quid for a cab to town from the airport? That is a rip off. Next time take the No 16 or 41 bus (Not the aircoach, which is also quite hefty at 7 quid), which stop at the bus station - cross through the multi story car park in front of Terminal 1 and you're right at the bus station. These buses get you into town in a reasonable time and cost like 3.60 or so plus you get your first real experience in Dublin, as these are not pure tourist buses that connect the airport to the hotels, but regular lines with everyday life (you can see the one or the other curious situation, sometimes you can experience a whole bus singing "The fields of Athenry" after a GAA match or see some musicians doing a trad session on the bus). More life, more fun at less cost! I think part of a visit of a place is also experiencing real life there and not just staying in the tourist bubble. Do as the locals do :-)

I did a similar detour once but in the other direction - I was on a steam excursion train which was going to Portadown, but we had to get off at Lisburn (where you got on the bus) because of a bomb threat further down the line (typical northern ireland!) We also ended up on a bus to Portadown.
Its a 2 way street so you can park either side . Whichever space is available you take it weather its on your side of the road or the other opposite side . Its not hard to understand 😂

You should of taken the DART from Bray station into Dublin and the views that you would get of killiney beach is deadly
The views between greystones and Bray are even better imo, though the views of Killiney are good too

On my first trip to Ireland, I took the car ferry from Fishguard in Wales to Rosslare.
I got a room by the water in Bray, parked my car, and I took DART into the city.
Avoiding Dublin traffic (and parking) was the smartest thing I ever did.
Great video and parking in Belfast is a first come first get the space no matter what direction you are travelling in!!
To hear anyone say Dublin is rarely sunny is a little bit of an exaggeration, yes we don’t get great summers but we do get quite a lot of sun, but we don’t get consistent dry sunny spells. When you travel from Dublin to Belfast by car or train you travel along the east coast, ya don’t go near the midlands just to correct you on that too. If it’s not a one way street you can park whatever way you like

Sure I once got in a taxi from Heuston towards South side. Journey should take approx 15mins and cost no more than 15 and its a straight road. He starts wiggling around Inchicore and Kilmainham and ends up back on the original road having added an extra 10 onto journey. Fecker was gonna try charge us around 40 until my sister said to him he need not think he's getting the extra money for that unnecessary detour. Asshole

Now there's something you don't see to often in train travel vlogs... Replacement transport. Unfortunately, this is a common reality of intensive railway transport through inhabited areas: every now and then there might be a traffic accident, but more often than that, it's suicide and it traumatises train drivers and attendants who are confronted with it. Very sad for all involved... As for the people in uniform at the station where you got on a bus, my guess would be that they weren't there investigating but rather just guiding travellers to the buses. That's how it tends to work in the Netherlands, anyway!
Yeah the guys at the station were with the rail company and just guiding to the bus.........you cant miss the RUC, they are armed and wear body armour and drive armoured riot jeeps.
