  • The West Highland Line is claimed to be Scotland's Most Scenic Train Route, by rolling from the lowlands to the Highlands through National Parks, along Scotland's Largest Loch, and with a view of the UK's highest mountain. Oh right, I almost forgot! It also stops at the highest altitude train station in the UK.

Oh my gosh, just realised I live in the most beautiful country in the world, best 11 minutes and 54 seconds Iv`e had in years.
Please don`t criticise Mike`s pronunciation of Scottish place names, I know many fellow Scots who do the same. He is an
ambassador for Scotland and shows very well what we have to offer tourists. When this crazy situation gets back
to normal, people from all over the world will want to visit here, welcome in Inverness anytime Mike, sweet video sir.

I hope he got home safely, and to all of you in the UK, believe me, we here in the States know exactly what you are going through. We will get through this together.

Ah! Mike, you should have taken more time with this video. You should have gone further to Malaig, took the ferry over to Armadale on Skye, ie Isle of Skye, believe me, you wouldn't have regretted it. I'm an 82 year old Scotsman, I live in Cordoba Argentina but like all Scotsmen, I dearly love my birth country. There's so much wonderful country to see that can't be done in one short video, and pick the right time of year . many thanks for sharing. God Bless.

@J Y Funny, we have the same thing happening here in the States. Wildlife is just walking back into towns and public areas in our national parks. I read on line that jackals are showing up in parks in Tel Aviv, Israel. I'm waiting for the bears to show up in suburban Atlanta Georgia. I actually saw a bald eagle flying just a few miles from my home - the last time I saw one, in fact the only time I saw one, was deep in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. Silver lining?

@@Jj-gi2uv well I went through a rough patch, a dear one deceased. I was put on our church's website by a German friend, I was about to have a nervous breakdown and specialist advised me, get away from everything, even a long holiday out of the country if possible. Members of my church in different countries were happy to have me . one in particular from Cordoba Argentina, said you're very welcome here. So I came for two months, when I returned I felt great. We kept in touch, eventually Susana came to Scotland met my two daughters, they hit it off immediately, and me with Susana's two children both married. Things developed from there, we decided we wanted to be together, CSO ee married. And yes the weather is brilliant.

I was in Glasgow a couple years ago for 5 days (tagged along on my husbands business trip). I couldn't head out of the city because I wanted to be with my husband when he wasn't working so I explored...I explored everything and took my time. Glasgow was amazing because I love architecture, museums, churches, gardens, parks, and history. That being said, we took a half day to go up to Stirling and walk through that small town and explore Stirling Castle and the train ride made me eager for a longer journey. I desperately wanted to go to the highlands because as much as I love everything an old city can give me...I want to see the natural world with rivers, mountains, streams and lochs. :) We only had a day and a half of free time and so we used it to visit Stirling and Edinburgh. Both were great but if I ever have another chance to go to Scotland I will make the highlands the priority.

Went to Scotland when I was 11 with my parents 1969. 3 kids in the car travelled all around staying in b&b each night right up to Fort William all the way from Dublin. No plans when we left, just took a right turn and tried their luck, ended up on the ferry to Scotland. Fabulous holiday, my sisters were 7 and 4. Saw the tattoo in front row seats in Edinburgh, and dancing waters, looked for the Loch Ness monster, swam and played in aviemore, jumped on trampolines, it was a magical holiday for a kid.

A friend and I took the train from London Kings Cross Station all the way to Inverness, where we stayed one night, rented a car, drove around the Highlands (including Loch Ness) and did the Whiskey Trail. Second night in Oban, and the third night in Edinburgh and dropped off the car before catching the train back to London. Conclusion: How can a country with the worst weather imaginable have such warm, wonderful people? The scotch was great, but the Scots were better!

The Scots were in Ireland and the English in N Germany ,The basic frontier between the English kingdoms and what became Scotland was established very soon after the arrival of the respective peoples.

great video.... it is a fantastic journey and thoroughly recommended for everyone. Even better is to do the full loop.... Glasgow - Fort William - Mallaig... ferry from Mallaig to Skye.... easy Bus up Skye to pick up a train again at Kyle of Loch Alsh (train & ferry and bus timetables all matched) and training across to Inverness (with a possible diversion up to Thurso) then back to Glsagow (via Perth). A very trivial point, the loch seen at 5:16 is on the west side of the train (after Corrour and before Roy Bridge) so will be Loch Treig. You would have seen Loch Lomond on the east side of the train earlier between "Arrochar& Tarbet" and Ardlui.

Absolutely right that the full loop is superb though not sure that the buses on Skye connect that well nowadays especially outside school term. Worth a trip up to Portree on the bus as well, or round the northern loop to Uig and the Stacks. Oban another stub of route worth fitting in if possible. Well spotted on Loch Treig.

You were great in this. Very joyous, child-like wonder. You at your very best! To answer your question about travel; ideally, I like both urban and rural experiences (when possible). For me, travel is a ‘both/and’ instead of an ‘either/or’ choice. I’m lucky though; I enjoy whatever is the quintessential aesthetic of wherever I am, and it’s constantly changing from place to place.
