    A lot of people confuse this they think the battery is giving the power to the car and the alternator just charges it. Actually once’s the cars running the alternator is powering everything sand charging the battery. The battery only gives 12 volts to the starter and fuel pump on start up other then that it can power the radio lights and windows if the engines not running

      Yes there's a lot of confusion and misinformation about the charging system and car electrics in general.

    at - 40 c temps a 500 amp car will need 1000 amps to start easy -- 700 amps will hardly turn it over

    only thing with a higher Ah is that your alternator will take longer to fully charge it. My battery wasnt holding a charge even after a day on the ctek charger, i bought i exide battery same Ah but higher CCA as our journeys are short with 2 long runs of over an hour per week, Good guide though simple and easy to follow, just subscribed.

    Useful, but you forgot to mention about the battery manufacturing date! The battery shouldn't be older than 2 months

      What about a battery that sat in the store for 12 months? It still has a charge of 12.4 volts.

    Thank you for posting this video,i finally found the answer to my question.You are the only one who show how many amps car batteries have.Most of videos say amph.

    Get the battery dimensions right followed by the factory specs.Too many people buy batteries that are physically too big/small for their cars.

    If you go to the likes of Yuasa's website and type in your reg, they as a manufacturer, will quote suitable battery options for the vehicle.

    Charging battery and while taking it out noticed a couple of things loose. I'll give it a lil time then try again. I bought one with Lil less CCA than the other one. CCA 540 instead of 585 . Might that be a problem ?

      It's not really about comparing with the battery that is currently fitted as that may be incorrect.
      You just match with the correct specification stated in the owner's manual.
      Puttin in a brand new battery that is a little under the recommended probably won't make too much difference.
      It's not something that I want to experiment with though.

    hi how do you check the date when battery was made i have lion agm heavy duty

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The year and build week is often stamped into the top of the battery posts or check the battery manufacturer's website for more clues.

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      True but the voltage won't fall as low during cranking because the battery is new.
      I would still fully charge even a brand new battery before fitting to bring it back to peak condition.
      There are different voltages to look out for as shown in this video of mine th-cam.com/video/SvAoBORH0A0/w-d-xo.html not just the resting voltage.

    • @JM-nh8yp
      @JM-nh8yp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sirobb thanks. they were just marking them down to 50% off when I was at the store because they hit 12 months. seems like it should be a good battery.

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a good deal then.
      The "newer" battery in the video I posted is 3 years old and still great so 12 months old is as good as new.
      Definitely try to get it fully charged if possible though.

    How can you tell if it’s a agm or gel without looking it up

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will be a part number on the battery which you can cross reference with the manufacturer's website.
      Out of interest, why would you not want to look up the battery to be certain?

    • @deandregensee8959
      @deandregensee8959 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To charge it correctly

    • @sirobb
      @sirobb  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need to look up the battery type properly then and make sure your charger spec is compatible with your battery.
