I just LOVE your microwave version of this. I am from New Orleans and none, I MEAN NO ONE, in my family believes this works. Lol I’m glad because now I have a fail proof way of making the one thing I have not been able to master in the kitchen w/o messing up a few times! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!!!
Yet another great idea that I'm sure to make this weekend. BTW, I made the decorative candle holders for my daughter as a house warming gift and she absolutely loves them. I was so impressed that I made a second set for myself. I absolutely love your ideas. Elegant yet simple and affordable to make. Thank you so much for sharing
I grew up loving pecan candy because my family stretches from one end to the other in Louisiana! Usually, we have to wait until we travel back home to get it. It is so precious that I stashed some in the freezer from the last trip in 2016. Until I made your recipe that little piece in the freezer was guarded with a very close eye, lol. But your recipe has put an end to all that. I made two batches of it yesterday and my cousin just picked up everything for his Super Bowl party. Thank you so much for the recipe. It is delicious and just the way we like it. I am following you as a true fan. Your presentation is wonderful, easy to follow and professional quality. That makes it stand out from the many others that are posted.
I know your husband is going to be so happy! My mother in law is from Louisiana! And she gave me this recipe over 30 years ago, it's one of my husband favorite homemade candy as well! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
Why do people always say what they do when the make candy. Ms. Toni, your candy looks great. I hate it when people comment about what they do. Just make a video of your method and hope people follow you. One fact about candy is that, 10 people who make candy will make it 10 different ways. Your candy looks great and I bet it taste just as good as it look. Keep the cooking and the candy making coming.
I love that candy and any candy with nuts always seem to call my name. Thank you for this recipe and it is always a pleasure to see a video on a good recipe, crafting or home decor from you. Happy Valentine's Day to you and hubby.
Ms Toni, I've past this video so many times because I were looking for a Pecan Candy recipe. Honey that word 'Praline' throw me for a loop. What you have here is a good ole fashion New Orleans Pecan Candy recipe!! Thank you so much. I will make this today. Some don't realize Praline Pecan Candy and Pecan Candy are two different types of candy. Creamy Pecan Candy is my favorite. And this is the best looking recipe on YT. My mouth is watering. Thanks again. From a New Orleans native! 🎷⚜️
I tried this recipe. When I tell you it is THE BEST!!! Yes it is!!! I am a Pa-con Candy making fool! 😂🤣. I've made it 3xs already. I used to live in Kennesaw and recently moved back home. I miss all this goodness. Thank you so much for sharing. I so appreciate you. 👍🏼👌🏼⚜️🎷
I had a friend that would bring me some of these whenever she would go home to Louisiana to visit her family. They are so goooood! I'm definitely going to try your recipe. Thanks.
I have been watching your videos for a few months. Stumbled upon them and had to subscribe! I had no idea you were a Louisiana gal too until this video. I love pralines but have never tried to make them. You have inspired me to try
I love your Southern Charm and how you made it sound so easy to make....I’m from Houma, La. and I’m looking forward to trying out your recipe! Thanks! 🤗
I lived in Baton Rouge for 5 years and spent many weekends in New Orleans. I love pralines, but haven't made them for years. You have inspired me to make them again!
I grew up in the Magnolia then moved to Algiers. So many of my family members make it just the way you do. I live in Miami now with my own family. I've tried to make Pralines(plyreenes) about 6 times. All 6 times they have been too sticky, loose, or just plain horrible. On my last trip home to attend the Bayou classic events, My people all said no to making them(busy bodies) so I just stopped at the conoco off of Gen. Degaulle and purchased the whole tray(about 30 at $2 a piece). I love them so much but could never get them right. Thanks for the advice on the candy thermometer. I hope to try and make a batch tonight. I'm praying they come out ok because I have no more left from conoco thanks to my growing, greedy son.
@@Renee_nf094e sorry for the extra late response but I literally got no notification that you had replied to my comment. I got very lucky and made a perfect batch about a year ago. But if you Making, I'm buying.
I'm from Louisiana too. We always made pecan candy. It's soo good! I wasn't sure if you were from louisiana or not but looking at your home decor and some of your paintings, you definitely are. I love your paintings . I plan on ordering a few pieces.
the look of Love... when I hear the words "praline and Louisiana" I know that is good eats.. Praline candy is one of my favorite homemade candy. Toni/thanks, you made it look so easy. I am not a baker when it comes to making anything sweet and tasty, but I am willing to give this Praline recipe a try.
In the video, she mentions that "its not 40 minutes yet", kinda make you think it takes 40 minutes to make. I made this with the same ingredients and at the point all ingredients were added and the pot on medium level. it took 18 minutes and it came out perfect. I made this a lot as a kid growing up in Louisiana (Bunkie). At 21, I moved to Los Angeles (now 48) and I could not remember how to make it until this video. Oh, and back in the day, we called this pecan candy. Thanks!!!!
Thanks aeggins1! Depending on the pot, amount of ingredients, even room temperature the time it takes to cook could be very different. It usually takes about 40 minutes to cook in my environment. And you're right, I grew up calling this pecan candy (more like pacon candy)...lol!
We have family in Bunkie and my mom was born there. In fact our family owned quite a bit of the town but that is a long, long story. I also live near Los Angeles but am way older than your 48 years. Yes, this is the candy I grew up on. Love the evaporated milk version the best.
+Necy Hall It's actually very tedious because you have to stir for 30 minutes, but it is well worth it!! I'm hoping my husband will be able to get a few pieces if I can stop eating them...so good. 😘
Hey, I washed your decor videos for a while , I was shocked to see this one. I see Louisiana is in the house. Yes you should submit your video for your own show
I make pralines also mostly during holiday seasons (Thanksgiving/Christmas). But I never added salt in the recipe. Next time I will give that a try. I have to use a candy thermometer. I know some people use the water method but that does not work for me. Thanks for sharing.
I was kinda confused, cause I looked at another video, and he used 11/2 sugar, that's a big difference. I I had to check if he used more milk, but he only used 1 can. , I think yours is more gritty. So, it all about how you like you end product .
Yes. I thought 4 cups was a bit much. As my family recipe is 2 cans of milk 3 cups sugar and 1 stick of butter. However the candy looks very appetizing. I'm from NOLA as well and I fashioned a microwave recipe with only 1 cup of sugar. It yields one dozen large pieces.
I had no idea that you were from New Orleans, so am I. I have not made this candy in a few months. I have been trying to eat right, but hey its Valentines Day (lol). TFS!!!
Lisa White I've never used condensed milk, so I'm not sure how it will react with this recipe. Condense milk is sweet and a lot thicker than evaporated milk so I imagine it will make the candy very sweet and maybe a bit harder. I wouldn't use it as a substitute in this recipe for evaporated milk, you may need to make adjustments. There may be other recipes online that use condensed milk to make pralines.

Your explanation about the history of pecan candy (now called Praline) is completely wrong. To think everything came out of Europe is ridiculous. Pecan candy is indigenous to New Orleans not France or Belgium or any other country in Europe as food historians and others would persuade people to believe. I, too, am native to New Orleans. Use raw pecans.
I have never seen pralines baked with 4 cups of sugar.
That's not praline's at all, that's pecan candy I make them all the time in New Orleans. Praline's look totally different I make them to.
