    It’s a grounding rod for homes. Steel for strength when driving into the ground (and to reduce cost), copper for electrical path to ground.

    Lovin' your down to earth real world personality, I've only just discovered your channel and am currently bingeing on previous videos. A suggestion with oil spills on concrete etc use granulated kitty litter and crush it down with your foot into the stains leave for 5mins to draw out oil then sweep back and forth for a great result. The copper clad steel rod is a grounding rod, similar to a grounding plate. It's what they used to ground house circuits back in the day. One that big could have come from an old lightening rod someone repurposed. I find the grounding rods that look bright shiny copper goodness, but are steel rods often. It's short iron at best, or steel sherd at least.

    Grounding rods, also known as a bonding rod. It is typically used in construction for grounding/bonding of pools, houses, buildings, and electrical grid. It is known as copper clad nickel steel rod. Where on 10% copper.

      Thanks so much! I haven’t upgraded the GoPro in awhile, it’s just the 8 but I do have the external mic attached because the audio is real bad. I have a Sony a6400 with mic that I use whenever I have time and space to set something up and I enjoy trying various lenses on it. There’s obvs much more gear haha, but that’s the basis!

      F pa. Lived there for a year. Better than new jersey for sure but everyone's wicked uptight, angry, and selfish. Atleast the people I came across. Don't ever rent from bulldog property management and Realty. Guys a drunk who loves the good old boys club and doesn't have a decent bone in his body. Brian, you definitly fit the shady salesman mold but go work for someone else. Your better than that. U do all the work and drive an almost a truck and eat scraps while your pupet master drives and owns everything highend under the sun. He forgot where he came from. Don't sit under his shadow. If u can't make money atleast maintain your decency.

Just make sure if you're selling in smaller quantities to weigh your scrap on a pound scale before selling. 1.8 pounds of scrap will only register as 1 pound on an industrial pound scale. Don't waste your precious time on processing if whatever you're selling doesn't weigh an even pound amount.

Hammer it down in the ground next to your house and leave the last 3 inches above ground and then put a grounding cable tie on the end of it and run your ground rod your grounding wire to it

    • @vincedibona4687
      @vincedibona4687 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Depends; if it’s mostly shred and little to clean, it takes no time. And then it depends on how much cleaning you want to do. My local yard takes modern vacuum cleaners as long as they aren’t taken apart and has the cord. It’s up to you how much time you want to spend v/s money gotten. I usually take things apart for the motors, but that’s 50/50. I rarely strip wire anymore, and #2 copper is barely any less $ than #1, so once again, depending how much solder and corrosion there is, I might turn everything in as #2 as the extra $1 isn’t worth the effort.
      Sorry I didn’t answer your question, really. 🤣

    • @newsweathertraffic18
      @newsweathertraffic18 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      There's no firm answer. It entirely depends on how much you want to process it. For example Florida Scrapper will drive around picking up appliances and only cut the cords of them before bring them to the scrap yard and getting paid shred price on them. He has zero processing time but certainly leaves a lot of meat on the bone - too much if you ask me. Canadian Treasure Hunter will pick up scrap for one day and then spend a day processing it at home so his collecting vs processing time might be 1:1.

    I have 3 or 4 dumpsters I know will always have something and I made it a point of getting the permission (and direct phone number) of the business owners to regularly rummage in them; one window-and-door place has my number and a bin they created for me and then they call me when it'sfull. So I have a route I drive/patrol and I take note of when the garbage companies do their pickups to maximize my take.
    A second "technique" I stumbled upon, is to chat up the businesses that are at the scrap yard at the same time I am, that are offloadingwhole machines. Occasionally they have a bumper(s) and I ask for permission to practice the trash panda arts. They understand the value so they are likely to accept, and even if they say we don't throw that stuff out, there's always something, because a) their standard of what's too small to bother with is much bigger than ours, and b) there's always one or more employees who aren't paid enough to care and just throw everything in one bin which translates to more for me🥰

    • @thubprint
      @thubprint  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I’ve noticed that too! They always say we don’t throw out any scrap, but there’s still a bag of brass pieces or something nearly every time. I have yet to build out a solid route of consistent hits, I suppose that’s what I miss out on from my randomized throw a dart technique

    • @bentleyalder5492
      @bentleyalder5492 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @thubprint truthfully with my route technique, I was bringing home a greater volume than I could process, which is an odd problem to have. I tried being selective of what I picked up but I just had a heck of a time leaving anything behind when I knew it had value; even if that value was pennies

    Nope, you were correct - IT'S A LIGHTNING ROD! - remember electricity travels on the OUTSIDE or wires, well it's the same for pipes and lightning rods... why use 15 pounds of copper and have bend easily when behind pounded into the ground? ... you should cut the end off (not the pointed end tho) to see how thick the copper is... it SHOULD be fairly thick because it has to withstand 100,00volty lightning stick without instantly vaporizing, and you could easily melt the copper off with a make shift furnace... you just need to buy some refractory cement and some rockwool... you prolly have some bricks to build a bit of a box, then lines the sides and bottom with rock wool and coat with the cement.... make a lid with a hole (and preferable cover the inside of it with rockwool and cement it) - you have some grill parts for a propane tank with regulator and hose .... then find some fittings to attach to the hose that lead to a larger pipe with plenty of openings for the air and propane to mix (or you can buy one of those 'weed burners' you hook to a propane tank .. you MIGHT have to drill some hole to give it more air tho) and then stick that in a hole you either left in the bricks, rock wool, and cement... or just drill a hole through it...... Then cut the lightning rod into manageable pieces that fit vertically and place them into a cast iron pan - vertically- then fire it up... the copper will melt at around 1100C and will fall into the cast iron pan (hopefully it's deep enough to hold all the copper) - then let it cool and the copper won't even stick to the pan... oh but pull the used up lightning rod pieces out so they don't stick into the copper.. then you'll have a big mess that's all stuck together lol
    - and think of this "forge" as an investment.... anything you melt you turn right into #1 copper.... especially if you hit it with a brass-wire brush that goes into a drill..... you just gotta factor propane costs..... which will go down the better you build your forge - or you can just buy a forge (which I can get you a discount on a devil-forge if you decide to buy one) - give it some thought, it might be worth the effort.... :)

    • @thubprint
      @thubprint  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ohhh that’s a great idea! I don’t need to build one, I have a small melting furnace but you’re absolutely right, I can cut it into smaller lengths and if the copper is significant I can just melt it all together and pick the steel out 👍

      This would be true if the frequency was like, 100,000 hz, not 60hz. The skin depth on 60hz for a rod that size is still 100%. You'd have to get up over 1" diameter to even have tiny preference for skin flow.

    Tennis balls go bad outside the sealed tube, so pro tennis players play with new balls all the time. Tennis people still have a big pile of balls that are their practice balls. Could sell your bag online as tennis practice balls and then if no one takes them donate them to a school or pet shelter

    You city people are scrap spoilt’ just drive in a random direction and scrap pours into your truck. In the country you have to be very diligent to hit every dumpster every week or you find nothing. I hit this dumpster one time last year one of my regulars,dude there was at least 500 tennis balls in there never seen one before or since,I grabbed like ten for Pickles and Roscoe to play with. Enjoy your content man.
