This is kind of funny. I kissed a girl once when I was little, about late middle-school or early high school. Her first kiss was definitely my last. Of course the reason? Well, it was my fault. I was aromantic asexual and absolutely hated romance from the start. Honestly it’s kind of funny, I was a player, and damn was I good at it, I kept up that relationship the whole year without giving any kisses or stuff like that, no gifts or anything either really. Just kept it alive with charm I guess, but hey, I felt bad for leading her on, so I tried to make it up by helping her with anxiety and homework. Anyway, why’d I do it? Well, I never wanted to date really but I was bullied into it because it wasn’t normal to not want to date or have kids or kiss and do icky stuff with people. Well, her first kiss was certainly my last, but that was honestly just because kissing her felt awkward and unnatural, then again, so did romance and holding her hand and all that lovey-dovey stuff. Scaring off her bullies with a song about pooping your pants whilst they are doing some nasty stuff in the bathroom and ending their relationship with their boyfriends though? Absolutely. I ain’t one for drama, but I’ll take chaos, and also any excuse to sing something stupid but funny. But anyway, why did I do it? Mostly because the idea was that you had to have a girlfriend and have kids and get married, none if which I wanted, but I was getting annoyed of the bullying for having no desire for it… so I found a girl, walked up to her, hung out for a bit to make sure she wasn’t crazy (all the men in my family have terrible luck with women, we always end up with hots for the crazy ones, which is why I wanted to be careful, y’know, I don’t want to end up dating a sadist or anything like that- no sir- I just wanted someone who was chill to hang out with and share stuff with if I had to, although looking back on it now, she was kinda crazy, she was just good at hiding it- I though she was shy, sweet, kind, liked cutesy stuff like bunnies- turns out she likes horror, blood, gore and pretending be a serial killer backstabbing her boyfriend and play choking him, so actually nevermind, followed that pattern. My boy- my bud y’know, he’s dating her now, which is why I now know that she was at least a little bit nuts, but hey, it works out for them. They both love horror, seem happy together, whatever man, as long as they don’t get too physical in front of me I’m chill) and then I asked her out on a date and made her a little necklace from stuff I’d scavenged (I was broke, so I made up for it through creativity, so guitar, song writing sometimes except that was never for romantic purposes and neither was guitar or anything else for that matter, and just being able to build things out of practically anything, also it’s very easy for me to make up musically appealing lyrics off the top of my head usually, memorising them’s the problem unless I sang it with another person, but that was reserved for my drop-out buddy in the parking lot for the most part, and the train yard hoboes) and she said yes to dating. It was pretty easy, even if I didn’t choose the most romantic place at the school, then again, not many romantic places in a school modelled after a barnyard that’s only half built. I knew she liked animals though, loved the bunnies especially, but the bunnies were always an area filled with people, so I brought her to where no one sat because everyone hated these animals in particular. The chicken coop. There I gave her the necklace after chasing down a chicken for her to pet and hold and then asked her out. Wasn’t scary at all really, then again, probably easier when you don’t have any feelings for them. She said yes, so how did things continue? Honestly the same. Just chilled with her, introduced her to some of my other friends, helped her out with homework if she helped me with mine, and scared off her bullies (sometimes got into physical confrontations, fights, but at least my scrawny stringbean lookin’ self got out without a single scratch, the others though? One guy nearly lost an eye, five ended up bleeding, another guy just very much bruised, and for the rest? Bruised egos from a weird kid pulling weird stuff on them. The difference was that they had shame, I didn’t) and sometimes swapped gifts. Eventually I decided that y’know, hey, we’re dating right? What are people who date supposed to do? Kiss and hold hands right? I didn’t want to go beyond that, just seemed gross to me, so I skipped that part. I ain’t gonna be doin the nasty in the bathroom, only weird thing I can appreciate in a bathroom is weird writing on the walls and people having a concert in there for free. Well, I gave it a try, first was handholding. Uncomfortable, felt awkward, also I was only willing to do it when I had gloves on, didn’t like the feeling of touching someone else’s hand. Did she think that was weird of me? Yeah, but she found it ‘charming on a quirky way’ or something like that I guess, I haven’t got a clue what quirky is supposed to mean though. After a while I tried cuddling, I was chill with it, felt more like when I was younger and the heater was broken and we had to huddle together for warmth with others. Well, eventually after that, I think, eh, maybe it’ll work out, maybe I’ll finally give her a kiss. Terrible idea, did it in private, or what I thought was private, got caught by some other kid, but I pulled away not even half a second into the kiss. It was awkward and I dunno how to describe it beyond feeling like every single piece of you feels uncomfortable and like you need to run away and distract yourself to try to get rid of the discomfort. Best I can describe it for now. I dunno what the kid who saw us said or thought cause, I ran off immediately after kissing her. I just grabbed my skateboard, put my guitar on my back and dipped. Somehow, even after that we kept going for about three more months. Never kissed her again though, or anyone for that matter. After that though I wanted to break up, after that kiss I just sat alone thinking, made plans to tell her I wanted out but chickened every damn time, I didn’t want to hurt her feelings cause she was really nice and sweet. Well, the day I finally muster up the courage to tell her we’re breaking up and I open my mouth to speak, she shoved a note in my hand and ran off crying. I didn’t know what it was about so I read the note. Well apparently kissing me felt like kissing a brick wall, understandable. I put no feeling into that kiss cause I didn’t have any to begin with. Also apparently according to the note her older sister and parents thought I was a bad influence and that they wouldn’t want us to be dating. She said that if I wanted we could still be friends and that she was sorry if this made her mad. Well, for me on the other hand? Celebration dude- single life again, no expectation to kiss nobody, able to just do whatever I wanted? This was perfect timing, plus, I got to skip telling her. So I just walked over to her, explained what happened, comforted her and we moved on but remained friends. Now she’s dating one of the guy’s in my friend group so it’s chill, they’re happy, I’m happy, honestly everyone but one guy with anger issues is happy. Worked out. Still find it funny though, somehow me, a socially awkward person who is autistic and can’t understand the majority of social cues and practically spent the majority of a relationship infodumping about anarchism and dragons and books and rocks, who had no interest in romance and actively hated it, was able to pull a girl like it was nothing and maintain a relationship with barely any work at all when most people struggle so badly for it and with it. Also she was a redhead, I dunno, I liked the hair. People usually say redheads are crazy. I don’t think that’s true but considering my family history I could just be fooling myself. Do I care that much though? No. I honestly wonder how I did it now though, she had panic attacks like, once a week to every other day on average… eh, it ain’t my concern.
