Zagreb is always empty in the summer, especially in August. As you noticed, Croatia has a huge coastline, and many people from Zagreb have relatives, friends, or property there, so they migrate to the coast for vacation. During that time, almost all the clubs either close or move to the coast, many shops and businesses shut down, and the weather is very hot, which is why the streets feel eerily empty. But if you ever come back in September, those same streets will be packed with people again.
Zagreb's city center isn't as pretty as it used to be, especially after the 2020. and 2021. earthquakes that damaged a lot of old buildings (that's why there's construction everywhere)
Nikola Tesla was from Croatia , not Serbia…He had some Serbian ancestry and that’s about it. He was never even a citizen of Serbia and visited serbia once in his life for only 24 hours. Serbia contributed absolutely nothing to his life but is today trying to take all the Credit and even go so far to claim that Croatia never even existed before 1941 or 1991 all in a effort to poach him completely from Croatia. Croatia has successfully registered Nikola Tesla as a Croatian cuktural and historicsl heritage Within the European Union.
Nikola Tesla was born in the village of Smiljan. He was born on July 10, 1856. Smiljan is located in the region of Lika, near the town of Gospić. Today, it is part of Croatia and has a museum dedicated to Tesla's life and work.
Yep, and he was a member of East- Ortodox church which was part of Kalovac arhiepiskopy which was Croatian Ortodox Church in its nature and by its leader's title... just sayin.
It was always in Croatia. Croatians nobility pushed Croatian Kingdom together with Austrian Commonwealth in 1527. at Cetingradski sabor, after Croatians and Hungarins lost battle from Turks + their allies Serbs - in Battle of Mohac field 1526.

As you were talking about sea food you were passing by "MIMICE" on the right. Its probably the oldest see food place in Zagreb. Its been there for 75 years.
And by far the best fast food place in Zagreb. They serve fried calamari, fried sardines and fried kind of small fish I don't even know it's English name. Side dishes are potato salad, red beans salad or chard. Drinks served are tap water, Coke or watered down low quality red wine, we in Croatia call bevanda. The idea behind bewanda is historical: in the olden days, a little bit of red wine was always mixed into drinking water so as to disinfect the water, but still not get you drunk in the blistering hot, sunny, long summer days. That's why low quality wine was used. Anyway, I've been a regular at Ribice kod Mimice for ever and I don't intend to stop. I know the fish is frozen and not caught that very morning when you eat it. But it all depends on kind of fish, the size of it and how and when you freeze it in order to make a difference. Coming from a long line of fishermen and seafaring people, I know that at Mimice they do it the right way. By the way, the name of the place is Ribice kod Mimice, meaning Small Fry at Mimica's.
In the summertime, most coastal cities are empty, and everybody goes seaside. It is also unbearably hot so, not a really great experience walking in any Croatian city during July/August.

Also the streets are empty because it's hot. Sure, many people go to the coast for vacation, but what you showed was empty even for summer standards. It's not like 80% leave the city at the same time for vacation.
@10:05 "Maybe this is a government building?" 😂Dude, from your vantage point right in front of you is, obviously, the Church (Crkva Svetog Marka), to the left is Banski dvori, that's where the government is, you know, the prime minister and all the other minister's, to the right is the Croatian Parliament (Sabor Republike Hrvatske) and finally behind the Church is the supreme court (Vrhovni Sud Hrvatske). croatia's borders look weird because the inner parts of old croatia were conquered by turks and today that entire part is part of bosnia coastline wasn't conquered by turks the way bosnia was, though the land in modern bosnia and herzegovina has a 30% croat majority
I'm croatian and let me tell you about this polemic of whether Nikola Tesla is serb or croatian.. technically both is correct and lines between the two have always been murky in these parts of the world. He was born village of Smiljan, which is in present day Croatia, so technically he was born in Croatia even tho in his time that was Austrian Empire. But his family was ethnically serbian. even today there are ethnic serbs living in croatia and ethnic croatians living in serbia and it was even more prevalent before the war. so people can argue about that till the end of time lol
too bad you didnt get to see Nikola Tesla museum, it really is AWESOME inside. there is a walkthrough on my channel. Just for info: Tesla was of serbian parents but was born in Croatia, went to school and high school in Croatia and lived most of his llife in the US until Edison stole his patents. he maybe visited serbia once in his lifetime and they make it as if he was a super proud Serbian which is not the case at all, myabe he didnt even know where it is on the map lol
lol You did good up until “he maybe visited Serbia once” was all bull. First Tesla and his parents were born in Austria-Hungary since Croatia didn’t exist up until 1995. Or 1941 when The Nazi Independent State of Croatia was created, the same state who murdered all of Nikola’s family, literally all of them except Nikola. Secondly, so what if he went to Serbia “once” ? Serbs are Serbs by family LINEAGE!! NOT by borders. lol.. the rest of the Balkan countries seem to think otherwise. Tesla is and always will be a Serb, just like his family members who didn’t end up getting murdered. They are all.. SERBS.
@@knnknn2843Yes he is a Serb but that argument of Croatian existence is so dumb.First of all Kingdom of Croatia has existed since 7th century, and a personal union before Austria-Hungary as well.I don't know who taught the Serbs that myth but they all seem to say the same thing. Also if a person is a gypsy they are a gypsy, they aren't just a Serb or Romanian.Like you said, not defined by borders.Dobar pokusaj

The Croatian borders are the way they are because Bosnia was once part of Croatia, but lost AGES ago due to Bosnian independence and ultimately the Turks.
The city is deserted because the huge number of people moved abroad due to bad economic conditions in Croatia which is a huge problem for thw country! Fortunately we've had more immigration in recent years mostly from the subcontinent so hopefully with their numbers growing we will be able to repopulate the country n make sure the pension n benefit systems survive this demographic apocalypse! Also as a student in Zagreb from a small town in Slavonia I hope that Zagreb will look like any other capital city in the West - a buzzing metropolis w different languages, nationalities, religions n races all calling Croatia home ❤
Word of advise. If you want more views, you need to spend more than a day or two in a country in order to talk about it. Do more interacting and youll get more view. Trust me
Zagreb is dead and empty in the summer and everything is closed for holidays that is normal.. no one comes to Zagreb for tourism in the summer, everyone goes to the coast. we also have different relationship with summer holidays than americans. almost everyone takes times of in the summer often for 3-4 weeks at a time. this is why research in advance is important this is worst time to visit it :) wish you had a chance to see it in more lively period... but if you're in Croatia in the summer, the sea/coastline is the place to go

Oh man, this was painful to watch and especially to listen, for most of the part! I grew up in Zagreb and was curious to see what you had to say. You didn't do a good job, sadly. I no longer live in Croatia but I keep on visiting every few years as my family still lives there. I'd strongly recommend that you at least Google stuff before you talk about it and then have 22k people watch (as of Oct 2024) thinking that everything you said is really so. First of all, "some kind of government buikding/church" that was fenced off is the Parliament of Croatia, a pretty big deal for you to miss properly identifying. Also, streets that you walked first 12 minutes of your video are not main streets to film, show, or ever bother walking around, even by uninformed visitors like yourself, therefore barely anyone to see around. Also, the dish you were hoping to find is called Buzara, not Bazooka. And no, Croatia did not steal its coast from anyone, it was always ours. It is Bosnia, its eastern neighbor, that later on got parts of Croatia under its wing through past centuries. I seriously could not continue watching your video after so many uneducated guesses. Please spend some time preparing before you film anything, this was bad. Really bad.
zagreb and all croatia have much less muslims than neighbour slovenia ! according to statistical data 91.6 % of croatia population are ethnic croat 2021 census
Zagreb is not east Europe, but central Europe, and the rest of Croatia south-eastern Europe. That's the beauty of it, as the country is at the crossroad and can never be placed easily to simple divisions, geographical or cultural. Zagreb is a peaceful and family city, and the only vibrant place in Croatia in all three seasons apart from summer, when you were there. It's only 1,5h away from the coast by car. We're mostly down at the seaside in summer for holidays to enjoy the beautiful nature, islands, sunsets...we're lucky to experience beauty since we were born. Enjoy your further trips, a superficial walks like this one, with no insider locals' information or enough previous research and it could always be an incomplete & misleading account of places 😊
The museum in Zagreb is only named after Nikola Tesla, but has nothing to do with him. Everything that was left behind Nikola Tesla, which was not confiscated by the FBI, is located in Belgrade. That is why it is the only museum in the world where you can see his personal belongings, drawings, patents, letters, etc
Actually nothing is in Belgrade. The museum in Belgrade is pathetic. On the other hand Teslas childhood house is in Croatia. The first hydroelectric power station he built in Europe is in Croatia HE Jaruga. Tesla never even been to Serbia.

Serbia and Croatia were once a single state within Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was unlucky, the Anglo-Saxons came and divided the peoples of this country. They wanted to do the same with Russia, but they broke their teeth. Most likely, the United States will soon divide the states into separate states. Yeah G if you came right now 5 pm would be crazy packed and its impossible not to lose your mind in the traffic thats ongoing, when was this exactly when you was here? And really you can only be lucky to experience zagreb like this cause with all the people in town its absolute mess trust me, everything from the streets to bars is packed full, i loved watching zagreb like this
im from zg ,welcome bro
croatia's borders look weird because the inner parts of old croatia were conquered by turks and today that entire part is part of bosnia coastline wasn't conquered by turks the way bosnia was, though the land in modern bosnia and herzegovina has a 30% croat majority
Nice enjoy Croatia
what camera does he use?
@@0902_7th century lol. Buddy, what monarchy? Who were your leaders? And the main question where are their gravestones. You have teslas parents gravestones but none of your monarchy does. You have pre-Nemanjic dynasty’s (Vojisavljevići) in Ston, North of Dubrovnik. Documented. Basically your first king was king Petar in 1918. But anyways. Pokusavaj ti do prekosutra. The Croatian borders are the way they are because Bosnia was once part of Croatia, but lost AGES ago due to Bosnian independence and ultimately the Turks.
When did you record this, what day?
Trust me
We been here for years and like it this way, relax lol
Bro if you are still there dont go till you try Cobanac! you need to try that, ni cevapi nisu losi :D
Hi Sly , I wonder where you go next 😅
Summer time= Boring day's
The first scenes are from Dubrava. My hood 🥳✌️
If they use the Euro they must be part of the EU
Montenegro and Kosovo use the Euro as their official currency despite not being in the EU.
Croatia is the EU member from 2013. and it is also in Schengen zone and Eurozone.
Since 2013.
Zagreb se prvi put spominje 1094 god.
Sve ono bitno ti si zaobišao.
Zagreb is dead and empty in the summer and everything is closed for holidays that is normal.. no one comes to Zagreb for tourism in the summer, everyone goes to the coast. we also have different relationship with summer holidays than americans. almost everyone takes times of in the summer often for 3-4 weeks at a time. this is why research in advance is important this is worst time to visit it :) wish you had a chance to see it in more lively period... but if you're in Croatia in the summer, the sea/coastline is the place to go
Looks kinda empty. People must be in the seaside towns
Go to Dalmatia to try Buzara ,not Zagreb
dubrovnik, you should see , ...👍👍👍
13:04 this man Josip Jelačić. Tesla is serbian born in croatia
if you are for some beer just said the word brother 😁
te falta un traductor para que te muestre algunas cosas como por ejemplo la señora del termo te mostro un tejido nacional llamado ñandutí (tejido de araña)
No vid means bad news
He probably got arrested
Tesla is of serb decent born in croatia
You were walking by seafood restaurant about 100 years old on your right in 3:09
I was there about 10 days ago.
Try pašticada next time you here... Thank me later..
nice, ty..... 🥃🇭🇷
You’re paying with euros and yet you’re questioning whether Croatian is in the EU or not?
Right, the guy is as uninformed as it gets.
Montenegro uses euros and is not in the EU... it's not a completely ignorant take.
@@shko-miMontenegro is not in the Eurozone, their usage of it not exactly legal
It was hot, hot in the city...
Did he miss Bosnia?
come to italy brooo
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Really bad.
zagreb and all croatia have much less muslims than neighbour slovenia ! according to statistical data 91.6 % of croatia population are ethnic croat 2021 census
hi
Calling tram a bus is so dumb,as rhe creator
Nikola Tesla was Serbian who was born and raised in Croatia. He was from village Smiljan, whic is close to a town Gospić.
No serbs in Croatia
🫶💕
DUBEC
Yes,what's left of his house,as Croats destroyed it in the civil war.
Also,he was in Belgrade, albeit once or twice.
And his ethnicity is Serbian.
@@Nannas-cp5nd what are you talking about, his house is a museum "Memorialni Centar Nikola Tesla", entrance fee 10€.
Also there was no "civil war". It was 4 wars when Serbia attacked 4 countries: Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Kosovo.
The NATO bombing put you back in place for all that.
@@alexhorvath9277
Put me back?
For your info,I'm Croatian.
And I know perfectly well how his childhood house was destroyed by our Army.
I also know how our people have been appropriating Tesla nowadays, though his ethnicity has been Serbian.
So
@@Nannas-cp5nd sure, you are Croatia. I can see by your profile 😂😂😂
You are annoying, no one is intreated in tje alternative serbian history and myths 😂😂😂

Wtf
Black risotto is from Italy...it's risotto with squid ink. I don't think you would like it 😂
Not from Italy. This is a genuine Croatian dish.
Its Mediterranean dish and i think he would love it and in Croatia black risotto is made from cuttlefish and its ink and not from squid which hasn't got enough ink
You never tried decent black risotto for sure. It is a popular Croatian dish and it can be excellent.
Pathetic.., I Wonder How you like it after Moscow and St.Pete?
Serbia and Croatia were once a single state within Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was unlucky, the Anglo-Saxons came and divided the peoples of this country. They wanted to do the same with Russia, but they broke their teeth. Most likely, the United States will soon divide the states into separate states. There are insoluble contradictions between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party, and the states are divided according to the party principle. People hate each other.
Republican and democratic party is two side of same coin. They are uniparty.
Typical Serbian thinking, and blame Americans for everything.
Ne pisi gluposti i lazi. Moju kucu su srusili srbi koji su dosli sa tenkovima iz srbije u moju hrvatsku. Ne seri
Yugoslavia had 6 republics of diferent nations, never was one nation, learn the history finally.
BS. Anglo Saxons have nothing to do with Yugoslavia falling apart. Dirty poor serbs are to blame.
Nothing like Belgrade. Belgrade is the best!
Nahh too much criminal activities and I don't know why you bring other countries in this plus Serbia is really racist county
Womp womp lost the war😂
Nah, Budapest is the best
Sadly, Beograd is not safe.
Well, that was Crotia in the past but since it isn't you are completely offtopic, apart from being incorrect.
First you neighborhood is Dubrava. :)
Second its not a bus, its a train. Like in Japan just slower😂
During the Summer, Zagreb and all the mainland cities are empty because we all go for 3-month vacations on our beautiful Adriatic sea 😊
go to the city of Opatija in the summer, you won't even be able to walk because of the crowd of people. everyone from bigger cities comes to the sea then, from foreigners to people from Croatia
No one said you have to come here...
Only go to areas that were under italian control thats where all the fun is....if you are in the austrian ruled part its stale and borring. Go to split
That's your opinion. I'm a Croatian who visited a lot of places in different parts of Croatia and I believe Croatia has something for everyone in every corner.
