I distinctly remember Karen Gillan's acting after Rory got dusted, Amy became dangerously confident that the family life reality HAD to be the dream because she didn't want to live in a world without Rory. Maybe it was because I was younger, but I remember it hitting me pretty strong.
i also like how that becomes a consisent trait for her. (spoilers for s7) but she literally jumps off a building with him because she'd rather do that and risk dying then be without him, once again. i remember thinking about that parallel and it making their departure even more ut wrenching for 12 year old me.
I remember this episode getting rather mixed reviews at the time of broadcast, so I'm definitely glad it's finally getting all the praise that it rightfully deserves
As great as he'd be I'd rather the Dreamlord remain as his own character. The show can always use more recurring villains on the same level as the Doctor.
I think the dream lord was partially based on the initial plan for the master. There would have been a 3rd doctor episode revealing that the Master was actually the dark reflection of the Doctor.
@@spongemaster It would be hard because the dreamlord is just the doctors mind working against him. But would like a recurring theme of the dr almost fearing their own mind
Two things that i have to say about Amy's Choice: 1) the monster's gas attack was probably supposed to be more of a spit 2) Rory turning to dust was most definitely tamer than the transformation in The Empty Child the cut was probably to save on the effects budget
since the dreamlord is the doctor's inner darknessand all, I think if Toby Jones was also cast as the war doctor, it would be a decent callback. Not dissing John Hurt thoough
This was one of those episodes that always seem to sneak up on me, like The Girl Who Waited and Night Terrors. I'd give it an above average - not a classic but certainly a very good episode. Overall, I like Moffat's stand-alone or two-part episodes more than I do his stories that go on and on then fizzle out. It resembles a very early Hartnell story where some minor malfunction causes them to start losing their minds and losing their trust in each other.

Moffat has always been better at the one offs than the actual long running arcs he has good ideas but little ability to pay them off.
The monsters in this are called the Eknodine, and I can't remember whether the name is ever said on screen. But this is a good episode though. Probably one of my favourites from Series 5.
Anyone else think that this could work as just a stand alone movie or short film, like without the doctor and stuff but just the concept of the episode
The problem with a story like this is that you can only do it once. Also, this episode would've added a lot more tension if it was the final one of the season. You genuinely wouldn't have known if it really was the end of Amy and Rory.
Being 7 or 8 at the time of this episode coming out I ironically remember having a nightmare (or dream) about the old people attacking my house. Didn't watch the episode again for a while after that but it's easily one of my favourite Matt Smith episodes!

He did know. He was teasing her. Plus this was supposed to be the 'foreshadowing Amy's pregnancy' story but had to be rescheduled because of writer issues. I think it works better here, because although as noted the big emotional reveal maybe should have been at the end of Venice, that made more sense as Rory potentially losing Amy, not Amy potentially losing Rory.

You never know, we might get a series of "Rosa"s and "Haunting of Villa Diodati"s instead of "The Witchfinders"s and "Timeless Children"s. Probably not though.
Just had a thought that Karen Gillan was 21 and Arthur Darvill was about 27; I know age isn't really an issues for pregnancy beyond the legal age stuff. Plus we don't know how old Amy and Rory were in Who-iverse. Guess I'm just over thinking it. 😂😂😂 However one of my favourite Doctor quotes in recent memory is in this episode as a retail worker I find myself saying it quite a lot and it's:- "I don't know but there it is." I always get a lot of people expecting me to have all the answers god knows why. So I can definitely relate to that Doctor aspect. 😂😂
@@GoogleUser-dwcy I wouldn’t trust Let’s Kill Hitler on age. Mel is meant to be their age but regenerated as a child in 1969 (as shown in Day of the Moon), so she should be nearly 20 by the time Amy was born... did she just spend about thirty years not ageing?

Eh. This is probably my least enjoyed episode. It's not terrible but... I didn't love it. Ok I was just reminded of Vampires in Venice. Never mind...

Also known as the one with Toby Jones, pretty much The Valeyard of NuWho and attack of the killer old people.
Out of all the villians to bring back later in the series, the dream lord would be perfect as it could reflect a different doctor like Jodie
Toby Jones is always great.
