I had such a hard time prying it off. I ended up using a map torch until the big part of the switch popped off. But that left a small amount of metal still on the shaft. I ended up just using the map torch again for about a minute and the metal around the shaft melted like solder. Just a pointer so people dont have to struggle getting it off. When it doubt, burn it out.
I sprayed mine with some wd40 and some kroil and finished it up with some fluid film and it's soft as butter , I didn't need to replace the NSS- worth a try before replacing.

I've owned 3 4runners up to now and none were bad on any truck, one i had for 11 years with over 420k on it and never any issues. Put some thick grease/anti seize to prevent corrosion.

Question? If I reach down to the transmission and switch manually the neutral control to drive with is damaged if safe to run to my house? If not going to switch back to R or P again in the road ?
Yes, That is fine to do To get where you need to go. It won't switch back automatically. It would take a lot of force to do it on its own. You should be fine to do that. I did it with a subaru last week and it was okay

Did you clean the shaft with a wire brush and then grease it? Also you will have to knock it on a little bit Because it is a tight fit. So just take something in lightly. Tap it on until it seats all the way back.

For removing part a gear puller works really well. Just place the hooks on the back side of the part and use the shaft to pull it off.

What state are you in?
I’d be careful with heat there is a seal there.. at the end of that shaft

No sir, as long as its lined up with the neutral mark like i explained
And you may have to clear the codes

The only way I can see it taking that long as if you recently replaced it and greased and it went bad shortly after
