You’re essentially taking a file and making it 2 to 8 times the physical size in your project.
You can make a 1080 clip 8k!
That’ll put a heck of a lot of strain on your system trying to read it and in real time. Just be aware.

Sadly, I don't believe this is in the free version. However the color grading tab does have a detail nob which, although it makes it kind of grainy, it does sort of act like sharpening
It’s a Studio version feature which requires a strong system to run.
Most people using the free version and an average laptop wouldn’t love the added resource drain.

Hey Daniel, could you make a short on best export settings for tiktok, insta and youtube shorts please? Also do you shoot at 1080p or 4k?
I shoot vertical video at 2160 x 3840 which people call 4K but it’s technically ultra HD (UHD).

No, unfortunately there isn't. They do make it for Tablet (iPad) but even then, the latest M series iPad Pro can barely keep up with high resource demand.
If you do go shopping for a system to run Resolve, definitely meet or exceed the recommended (not minimum) requirements shown here ---> motionarray.com/learn/davinci-resolve/davinci-resolve-system-requirements/

It does help a little bit. I have a 2.0f lens that really in and out of focus sometimes. This can help the clips. Btw it takes a while to render using this feature.

You’re not using Studio.
You’re using the Free version.
Make sure you have the Studio version installed and activated with your license key

I'm using Studio version 18.1.4 in Big Sur OS this option doesn't exist in Inspector. Retime and Scaling is as far as the menu goes. Is this some Beta thing?

Ah, I'm using the Studio version. If this is a feature you really want and don't have... definitely consider upgrading.
If you just want to dial back a little roughness in your video, try going to the color page and dialing back "Mid/Detail". It will have a similar affect.

I have a problem that whenever I do this it completely freezes up, like this is talking by up all my laptops ability to do anything.
You’re not wrong. Keep in mind you’re effectively doubling (or more) the file size by upscaling.
That forces your system to work much harder.
One thing you can do is render in place after you’ve applied the upscale.

Would you recommend doing this for Reels? Since when uploading reels, footages are highly compressed and it loses its sharpness.

@@Daniel_Batal I am, but I think I found the issue; I had compound clips on the timeline, once i exported that clip and reloaded it as a new project, I was able to use SuperScaling again. Thanks for the quick response!

Currently this is a Studio only feature and I should warn that it is resource intensive
After I'm doing this my video is stuttering a lot (it's a 10 second shot in a video game)... I'll try to reduce the ammount now, see if it can run smoothly
Keep in mind, you just doubled the amount of information for that clip.
Change the playback resolution to 1/2

DaVinci Resolve has a massive free version with a ton of features but the Studio version has even more. Anything that is part of the Studio version will notify you when you go to use it that it's a paid Studio feature and will watermark.
If you really need these features (like I do), purchasing a one-time license will unlock the advanced featurs.
If it only worked on my pc
It should be there for you if you have the Studio PC version.

Is there a way to accomplish this for the entire timeline in the free version of the program?

Ugh I have about an hour and a half project that I need to deliver that the client originally wanted a small file size so I shot 2k from the back of the room thinking they just wanted a wide. Now they want me to punch in. I shot with 2 cameras so I’m going to cut back and forth but anytime I throw super scale on there my system gets bogged down. My plan is to edit it and throw super scale on before I export and just let my computer do its thing for basically half a day. Is there anyway to look at super scale almost like a proxy before I edit so I’m not just exporting blind and hoping for the best?
Super scale definitely will put a huge demand on your system because you’re effectively doubling (or more) the amount of information on those clips.
What I would do is create your edit, just apply super scale to a specific segment and test the export using a fragment of the timeline.
You can do that on the edit page by putting the playhead where you want the export and hitting “i” on your keyboard, moving the playhead to where you want the export to stop and hitting “o” on your keyboard. (In/Out)
Then choose to export between the in and in and out points from the deliver page.
That’ll let you see a sample of what the final result will look like

I think, in most cases, video and audio for new channels only needs to be good enough as to not be distracting. What will grow your channel faster and more effectively is a well-defined value proposition and serving the needs of your specific target audience consistently.

Absolutely, all the way up to 8k… BUT it does use a ton of system resources (obviously) and it is only available in the Studio version for reference
