Same problem with IR 5HP. Just burnt through my second switch. The original switch is not cheap in Canada, so thinking about doing what you’ve done. Thanks for the vid.
I have a pile of old pressure switches from my shop and my works compressors which are IR, mostly with burnt up contacts as well. At least one OEM had to be replaced because of the on/off switch breaking with-in a month.
Trying to understand what you said. You installed the “shihlin 7.5 hp single phase magnetic starter motor control” and you are using the original switch as a pressure switch only. Is that correct? Any chance of getting a photo of you wiring? Thanks
@@franklinschwenk9830 Yes, the pressure switch only operates the energiser coil of the motor starter; the motor starter takes the load of the compressor motor. I wish I had filmed the wiring because it took a few goes to get it right. Don't get me wrong, no sparks flew, it was a case of the motor starter simply ignoring the pressure switch. Essentially where the motor starter would normally be operated by a start/stop switch and relay, instead one leg of the 240 volts is run directly to the energiser coil and the other is extended out to the pressure switch contacts and back to the coil so that the pressure switch completes the circuit to the energiser coil.

Yes, the original switch was actually more expensive than this contractor AND the replacement knock-off pressure switch together.

I'm having the same problem, do you have a link to that motor starter?
It’s on Amazon. Shihlin 7.5 hp single phase. I couldn’t isolate a link to it. Thanks for watching.
