      I purchased that cool looking silver one, literally 10 minutes after I saw what it could do. I have been playing with a few cheap Laser 303 and Laser 301 at 650nm and 450nm. They could light a match fairly easily, this should be a nice step up. Besides, I foresee our federal government deciding to define lasers over 5mw "energy weapons" and making them impossible to acquire without permits, probably within the next decade, just like Australia did. I will be happy I bought one when they are all illegal as shit. I will just swap out the sticker for one that says 5mw and put a removable filter over the output to weaken the beam, then when I need a watt, ill just pop off the discretely placed filter, and out it comes, full strength, none the wiser. Oh... Word to the wise, do not shine a 1-watt laser into a fire sprinkler with the red capsules. The red capsules on the industrial fire sprinklers are heat sensitive, so if you shine your laser around carelessly and accidentally strike one with your beam via reflection, etc and it blows, thousands of gallons of water continuously flow until the fire department shows up to turn them off, tens of thousands of dollars in water damage. So yeah, be careful around offices and hospitals and schools. Luckily I have a brother who installed similar sprinkler systems for years to tell me about that, they go off at like 400 degrees Fahrenheit, not much. I am sure a blue or green 1-watt laser is way more than enough to set those off, with even just a decent reflection of the beam.

    Hey Michael, I have definitely subscribed. These lasers are packed with fun. You are supplying some excellent info to take the gamble out of purchasing some of the products from Ebay.
    I hope you are not against firearms but these lasers are excellent aiming devices if mounted properly. The other issue for a laser would be if it could handle the shock or recoil from higher caliber firearms. The military green laser output power runs about 60mw. Thought I would make sure you are aware of many of us who have this special interest in green or red lasers and thanks again for the great videos.

      Michael, your reviews cut thru the chaff, and to that end I was wondering what laser you would recommend for versatility? Both useful for lite engraving of wood and in winter nights, taking out to do some astronomy with?
      To that effect, I don't know if you are aware, but I found these supposedly "2W laser diodes with a wavelength of 445nM" for under $100 and was wondering if you could do a review?
      Specifically, do you think these "M140 diodes" could easily fit the criteria for both - lite engraving and astronomy with the lens that are listed?
      To find the seller, you type google's homepage, and then directly after (dot)com. copy and paste the following:
      /site/dtrlpf/home/diodes/445-m140-didoes
      Lastly, is there a patreon account that we can donate to?

    • @mca0824
      @mca0824  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do have a patreon account, www.patreon.com/mca0824 One thing to keep in mind when you are buying the diode alone is that you will need to build the laser server and install a good heat sink. This will get expensive and you may find it much cheaper and easier to simply buy one of the cheap 1.5 w lasers like I have in my videos. The work well for light burning and astronomy. I recommend a Thor 2 laser or one of these lasers. This is a 1.5 W laser with batteries, case, and charger. goo.gl/DyfXR8

      @@mca0824 The Coptell. What's not in the video is where he got it. Go to Wish. com. As much as I hated buying it from China, I didn't have much of choice in that regard. Another thing: if you've ever bought from Wish, he's right about the wait! Since I wrote my comment, it took me about 3 months to get mine. In Wish, when you put in Lasers as a search, take your time when you're looking because of the competition in sales. I saw one seller sell one for $70 while another further down was selling the same one for $50! So it's worth it to spend time looking at everything they have - and they have a TON of different kinds. Mine is 10,000 MwA and DAMN! I live near BWI and I have to extremely careful the cops don't show up cuz there's jets flying over all the time. That thing puts out a serious beam! The blue looks bad ass and it comes with 3 different colors - blue, green and red. So, basically.. I HATE the sight but I like the product. At least, in this case. Just don't buy things like video cameras or camcorders on there. You'll be pretty upset over the cheapness. One other thing I found to be really well made were the switchblades. I bought a stilletto (out the front) for $20 with a belt case. It came in a spacey, high tech polly handle and sharp! Came right to my front door, completely legal because they call it 'assisted' instead - but, it's a fun switchblade! Everybody I know wants one now so.. uh, yeah, I'm gonna capitalize on that - prick that I am. Hope that helps. If you have any other questions, lemme know.

    Be aware that a lot of those cheap Chinese green lasers also leak quite a bit of infrared (invisible) light due to not having an infrared filter. Your safety glasses need to be rated for green AND near infrared.

      Nm stands for nano meters. Or 1 1/billionth of a meter. It is a unit of measure of the wave length of the lasers light. Depending on the width of the wave length you get different colors of light. Hope that helps.

    • @davidsell243
      @davidsell243 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bill - Nm is basically how visible the laser beam is to the eye (555nm wavelength is most visible to the eyes), the most visible lasers are the 532nm green ones, 2nd are 445nm - 450nm blue lasers and 632nm - 650nm red lasers are least visible I've got two 303 lasers one red, one green both have roughly 200mw output power but the green beam is about 3 times more visible than the red one.

    Lasers in the 1-2 watt range? My house is full of 100 watt light bulbs, what would a 100 watt laser do if a single watt is considered dangerous?

    • @aarongreenfield9038
      @aarongreenfield9038 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What makes them dangerous, and capable of burning, is it is 1 or 2 Watts concentrated to a very fine point. Just like you can stand in sunlight, but try standing underneath a big magnifying glass that concentrates the light to a point. So not dangerous like it would immediately kill you, but they can blind you immediately if handled improperly, or allowed in the hands of children, your house can burn down, and Incidentally kill you, and everybody in it, and like your 100 Watt light bulb, if you had a 100 Watt laser, It would cut through steel with relative ease, because it is focused to the size of a pinhead. Adjust that same lasers focus out to the size of a orange, and it would just be uncomfortably warm to your hand like a 100W bulb. This is How Laser's work, hope that clears some confusion up.

      Hello, I still have mine and it is still working. As far as the glasses, it is always best to wear them when dealing with lasers over 5mw. The green laser is probably between 40 and 80mw. That power can do harm to your eyes. If you are just using it outdoors at night, you could probably get away with it. But indoors, even the reflected light off a glass can do harm to your eyes. Mainly just be careful and you should be find.
