    We have decided to homeschool our kids, and our oldest starts this year. One thing I found out during this process is that you should have your curriculum already before you register your home school, because in NC you need to be able to start within 5 days of registering. You don’t actually have to start within 5 days, but you have to be able to.

    We are starting homeschooling next year; curriculum is the most confusing thing now. There is no clear guidance for homeschoolers in NC, but public schools have a list of Mandatory classes kids (even in elementary school) must take. Can you do a video on curriculum requirements?

    Thinking about moving from N.Y. State to N.C. We have to write a letter of intent every year, IHIP (In home instruction plan), four quarterly reports, and CAT test (given by parent) yearly from grade 9-12, every other year before those grades. In grades before 9, you provide a written end of year assessment (narrative). No attendance, school name, portfolio,no shot record etc. I just write that they met/exceeded the attendance/hours of instruction per regulations. There is never any audit/home checks etc. There isn’t any curriculum requirements, just subjects (you chose how much/what is covered). And you don’t need a curriculum etc to homeschool at all. There isn’t a mention of religion either. We also don’t have to keep any paperwork or school work except the loi, IHIP, quarter reports, CAT test results/assessment at home/district. Kind of scared to move due to hearing that parents can’t give the CAT test and other requirements.

    • @thestayathomefamily7615
      @thestayathomefamily7615  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can choose to administer the CAT test in NC- that is the one we use. NC requirements are much fewer- I think you will have a much easier time. You only file one letter of intent ever, test annually after 7 (whichever you choose), and homeschool for 9 month out of the year. You don’t even have to record days, although we do. I have never heard of any audits, although it is something that could happen- just keep record of the above as well as vaccine records or keep an exemption on hand. Super easy and very non-invasive ❤️

    Thank you so much for this video! My daughter is severely autistic and does not follow standard course of study in NC (called extended content). I was wondering if anybody's kids follow an IEP and how I would teach (or not teach) from that? Or, do I have the option to not use her prior teacher's goals? Does anybody have a link or two that might provide guidance on more specifics about homeschooling with an IEP in NC? Thanks and thanks again for this video

    What if you create your own curriculum?
    How do you file for religious excempton for vaccinations?
    Are there any required subject you have to teach other than whats listed? (English grammar, reading, spelling, and mathematics)
    Thank you

    • @thestayathomefamily7615
      @thestayathomefamily7615  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In NC, you can use any curriculum you want, including your own. NC only requires a state test at the end of the year.
      You don’t need to file to have religious exemption from vaccines. If an institution needs a letter (daycare, school, college, etc) you can write one to explain how vaccines interfere with your religious beliefs. You should have a copy of this letter in your homeschool file.
      In NC, there are not curriculum or subject requirements, other than what they are tested on at the end of the year.

    Hi, my son is currently a homeschooler in SC. There is a possibility we will be moving to NC. My biggest concern is the required standardized testing. My son has both Autism and Apraxia; he would be limited in this area. What knowledge do you have with autism in terms of NC homeschooling requirements?

    • @thestayathomefamily7615
      @thestayathomefamily7615  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I do not believe students with autism have an exemption- this would be a question for the DNPE. In the event that they are not, there are testing services you can use that are untimed and that can be done orally. We do one ourselves that is this way- it is the CAT exam by Homeschool Testing Services.

    Thank you for all of this valuable information. We are relocating to North Carolina from Ohio and still have one homeschooler that will be a senior next year. She will finish out her junior year here in Ohio. We will move to North Carolina this summer. She is currently enrolled in a College Credit Plus program in Ohio and we would like for her to be able to continue in a similar program for next school year. Any information you can give me would be wonderful. Do you know of anyone I can contact or possibly have people in your homeschool community that currently use CCP in high school as registered homeschoolers. Thank you in advance.

      We have something in NC called dual enrollment. As long as they are full-time homeschool students, they can take free courses at the local community college. Not all counties/community colleges participate, and requirements and available classes vary year to year. Check with your local community college for more info ❤️

    We are a military family who currently homeschools in TX. My husband has orders to move to NC. We are moving anytime from March to May this year. Am I able to file a notice of intent once we move into the state? Or do I wait until July 1st for the following school year?
    Edited to add-
    My daughter is in 1st grade right now. She will be starting 2nd grade this upcoming school year. She turns 7 on Sept 13. Do I need to add her to the Notice of intent with my 8 yr old? Her birthday is usually past the cut off dates for school, so technically she is a year ahead.

      Although audits are a possibility (that’s why we hang on to records) in our 9+ years of homeschooling we have never heard/experienced this. A few years ago several families in our county received letters saying they could voluntarily go to the library to meet with a rep from the DNPE and show their records. None of these families actually went. 🤷‍♀️
